"A daemon."

Wilson’s low voice caught Catherine’s attention.

Her hand trembled and she turned to him in shock. "How could this be?" She stood up from the bed, Alaric following.

Wilson was lost in thought.

Earlier.

He had been outside the mansion when his daemon initiated a link with him. His daemon was mostly silent and didn’t particularly involve itself in the affairs of the mansion, unless it was sothing of utmost concern.

’Master, I feel sothing.’

’What is it?’ Wilson paused, asking his daemon through their ntal connection.

’I’m sensing an unfamiliar but oddly familiar energy within the mansion. I can feel that it is powerful, but it isn’t negative’. His daemon replied.

’Can you locate where it’s coming from?’ Wilson asked, his brows furrowing.

’It is coming from the master’s daughter’s room’.

Hearing his daemon’s words, Wilson wasted no ti and imdiately hurried to her room.

Even though his daemon had said it wasn’t harmful, he had to make sure and find out what it was. It involved his family.

He arrived at the door to Aristia’s room. He could already feel the energy. He recognized it as his daughter’s aura, but there was also sothing else. He couldn’t tell its source though.

He opened the door, relieved to see that his daughter had finally woken up. Then, he approached her and asked her how she felt.

All of a sudden, he felt the energy again, but with higher intensity.

To his incredulity, a ball of aura ca out from his daughter’s body. He couldn’t believe his eyes as he watched it morph into a grey fox. It’s fur had sparse strips of silver and he could even see a faint blue at the tip of its fluffy tail. The eyes that sparkled like precious jewels were an enchanting purple colour and seed to be able to see deep into the soul.

"A daemon." He said the words on his mind.

His daemon had been silent as soon as he had co into contact with the daemon and seed to be in a sort of trance. Wilson’s brows furrowed. His daemon had never acted this way. Wilson’s voice seed to wake the daemon from his trance.

’Yes, master. And an unusual one’. His daemon replied quietly.

"How could this be?" Catherine’s voice unknowingly interrupted the human and daemon’s private discussion.

Now, Wilson watched his daughter fall unconscious again. The fox daemon softly landed on the bed. Then went towards Aristia.

Seeing that, Catherine held her breath. However, the daemon slowly moved around Aristia’s body, staring at her.

Finally, it settled beside her feet and stared at the strangers in the room with guarded eyes. Its posture was elegant as it lay on its stomach with its hands placed on the bed beneath it, looking at them while emanating a sense of power and authority.

Wilson’s eyes narrowed. Daemons were undoubtedly extrely intelligent creatures, capable of doing what regular animals could not. As such, they naturally exuded a powerful bearing. However, he had never seen a daemon emanate such power. Its eyes revealed very high intelligence.

He stretched his hand to touch it, but the next second, a sharp claw ca swiftly, making him retract his hand as the daemon had swiped at him with its claws, its eyes piercing as it stared at him.

"Gasp. Will, are you alright?!" Catherine asked worriedly, staring at his hand for any noticeable injuries, while bringing Alaric with her towards him. When the daemon had appeared, she and Alaric were on the right side of the bed and Wilson was on the other side of the bed.

"I am fine."

Wilson nodded his head. He wasn’t hurt. Daemons usually did not appreciate physical contact with anyone apart from their human. He had anticipated the attack and managed to dodge in ti before the sharp claws made contact with it.

Even still, he was surprised. The daemon’s reaction was still faster than he had expected. If he had been a second slower, he would have been left with a deep gash in his hand.

"What is that?" Alaric asked curiously. He hadn’t heard what his father had said.

"That is a daemon." Wilson replied, looking down at his son whose eyes were filled with curiosity.

"Tia has a daemon?" Hearing Wilson’s reply, Alaric exclaid with excitent.

The daemon turned to look at him, then averted its eyes and continued to look around the room from where it lay beside Aristia.

Catherine moved forward, wanting to check Aristia’s temperature. She felt a bit tense as the daemon’s eyes followed her movent.

Thankfully, the daemon didn’t move even though it was clear it didn’t like her touching Aristia. It just watched as she checked her daughter’s temperature with the back of her palm.

"Phew." Catherine sighed in relief. Aristia’s temperature wasn’t rising anymore, it even seed to be going down.

She then stood up and went back to her husband. She had knowledge to a certain extent about daemons, after all, her father, brother and husband all possessed daemons.

Since the daemon belonged to her daughter, she knew that the daemon would not hurt her daughter and was only protecting her.

"She will be alright." Wilson turned to her, his hand on her arm which held his.

Wilson turned his gaze back to his daughter. He didn’t know why she fainted as that wasn’t the usual occurence when daemons were ford, neither was it normal for a ball of aura to co out of the human and turn into a daemon. He would think about it after she woke up.

"I know. Her body is returning to normal." Catherine said with a small smile in reply to his comforting words, leaning her head on his arm.

Now that they knew the reason for Aristia’s fainting earlier, even if strange, they could put their minds at ease.

"Adeline, take care of the princess." Wilson ordered, then turned to Catherine. "It’s ti for you to rest, Cathy."

She had barely gotten any rest as she had been staying by Aristia’s side because of how worried she was.

She hadn’t slept the previous night. The only ti she left the room was to take a bath. All her als were eaten in Aristia’s room.

Even though she was with Aristia, her mind was filled with worry, making her unable to rest properly. So now, she looked a little weary.

Only at this mont did her tiredness co down on her. She nodded, allowing Wilson to lead her to their room.

Adeline stood in the room, watching as the door closed behind the master and mistress of the house. She then turned towards the bed where Aristia lay.

Her gaze trailed back to the bowl of porridge in her hands. Aristia hadn’t even eaten and had fainted again. There was even a daemon beside her.

Anyti she tried to approach the princess, the daemon would snarl.

Adeline walked towards the chair beside the bed and sat down. The porridge was becoming cold, so she ate it. She knew Aristia wouldn’t appreciate it if the food was wasted.

Aristia didn’t wake up until three days had passed. Because her temperature had returned to normal and her skin didn’t look pale anymore, she looked like she was just sleeping peacefully.

The fox daemon was still alert, even though it no longer snarled whenever Adeline ca to clean Aristia’s body.

Adeline had just finished wiping Aristia’s body again in the afternoon and was dressing her up when Aristia slowly opened her eyes. She stopped in surprise.

"Princess, you’ve woken up."

Before Aristia could say a word, Adeline left the room to inform the family.

On hearing Adeline, the couple quickly made their way to their daughter’s room. Owen trailed behind them as he too had gotten wind of the news.

They opened the door to see her sitting up on the bed with her hand reaching for the daemon, confirming Adeline’s words of her being awake.

Aristia woke up in confusion. She blinked twice, staring blankly at the ceiling.

"I had a dream." She muttered to herself.

"A very strange..." She turned her head to the side.

Her eyes widened to see purple eyes staring at her.

She sat up quickly and shifted back to distance herself from the creature. The creature was cute, but who wouldn’t freak out waking up and finding an unfamiliar animal lying beside you.

mories of the events when she had woken up ca back to her; the strange dream, the ball of light, and the animal that it beca.

This animal...

She looked at the fox that was beside her. Its purple eyes seed to glow like gems, and its furry body looked fluffy and soft to touch. Its fur was light grey and there were so beautiful white fur present too. There was even a light hint of bluish-silver at the tip of the tail. Aristia had never seen such a beautiful animal.

Looking at the animal, Aristia only had one thought— she felt like cuddling it!

She reached out to touch it, just as she had done with the ball of light, feeling a sense of familiarity with the animal. She felt a strange connection to this animal, almost as if they belonged to each other.

The animal kept its eyes on her, observing her as she tried to touch it.

Just as Aristia was about to touch it, the door banged open, startling her.

It seed the fox had been startled too as it rose up from its laying position and jumped up.

But it suddenly transford into a bird.
