506 Diverting the demon army
When a demon senses the fragrance of the devil fruit, they would unconsciously set the devil fruit as their top priority target and would do any ans to get it.
"Since, we can't use the devil fruits for ourselves then why don't we use it for diverting the demon?" Edmond threw the devil fruit towards Rulf before continuing, "Since you are very eager to save the normal residents, then hold that fruit and rush towards the direction of the so-called Great families."
The devil fruit could not be used by beings like demons or other devil or demonic elent beings. If it was used by a human, then without a doubt the person would beco a mindless creature that would only destroy anything that lies in his way.
So, Edmond didn't have much attachnt to the devil fruit.
Also, the reason he gave the demon diverting mission to Rulf was not because of their internal fight. It was because, among all the people present around him, Rulf was the only one after the guild master, who had the fastest speed.
"Huh?"
Rulf looked at the small black coloured fruit in his hands and understood what Edmond wanted him to do.
"So, now you are agreeing that I am faster than you, right?" Rulf smiled as he asked Edmond with a small smile on his face.
"Of course, you are faster. That's how you survived till now," Edmond instantly replied to Rulf's previous question without wasting any ti.
"..."
Rulf was speechless as he didn't know what to say now. Because what Edmond said had so truth to it.
Just like other rcenaries, the old guild master used to give so special missions to Rulf and most of them were almost impossible to complete. So, Rulf always uses his speed to escape when he senses that he would not be able to complete the mission.
"You two are not small kids to fight always. Just cooperate with each other for a while until it's all over," The old guild master stopped them from fighting and continued, "Rulf, sar the devil grass along with the small piece of the devil fruit onto your body and rush towards the royal capital. I will see why the royal family will not send their army to kill them."
The reason the royal family didn't bother about the demon army much was that the towns between the cursed wilderness and the rcenary guild were not wealthy and most of them consisted of normal people who didn't have any hope in becoming cultivators in their life.
So, the old guild master felt confident that the royal family would definitely send their army to kill the demon army.
"I will try my best in completing this mission, guild master," Rulf bowed his head at the old guild master and looked at Edmond and others before saring the devil grass onto his body.
As soon as he sared the devil grass onto his body, the second batch of the demon army halted all of a sudden.
However, the demon army didn't move in his direction as though they were waiting for sothing.
As for Rulf, he finished saring the devil grass onto his body before cutting a small piece of devil fruit and just like before, he sared it onto his body.
However, unlike before, the immobile demon army beca crazy when they sensed the fragrance of the devil body mixed with the devil grass' fragrance.
Along with that, the demon army changed the direction as though sothing was calling them from Rulf's direction.
"What? This fragrance...it is definitely a devil fruit,"
"No doubt about it. It's definitely a devil fruit,"
"It's there. I see the devil fruit in his hands,"
"I have to get that fruits before others get their hands on it,"
While the demon army slowly changed the directions towards the old guild master and others, the mutated demon servants and the other demon generals that could still think even after consuming the rage portion were tempted by the fragrance of the devil fruit.
There was only one thought in their hands that was to get their hands on the devil fruits and consu it.
Still, they didn't co out of the demon army and continued to lurk in it because they knew that if Edmond and others were to see them, they would die even before they could do sothing.
So, they continued to follow the demon army, which was moving towards the old guild master and others.
"Rulf, it is working. Now, just take care of the demon army. Don't run very fast and maintain an average speed. We will cover you if any of the demon generals or elite demon generals that might co out if they see you," the old guild master asked Rulf to be careful while running with the devil fruit in his hands.
"Yes, guild master," Rulf nodded his head and rushed in the direction of the Royal capital.
"Oh. So, he is running away from him,"
"Good. As long as that old man and others are not there, I can sneak up on him,"
"As long as I wait for so ti, I can get my hands on the devil fruit...Hehe,"
All the elite demon generals, generals and the mutated demon general beca excited when they saw that Rulf was separating from the other humans and continued to follow him with the demon army.
"Okay then. Since Rulf is taking care of the second batch of the demon army, we will stay here and take care of the third batch," After Rulf left from there, the old guild master looked at Edmond and others before saying, "Udo, if you don't mind, take a couple of rcenary squads which had a captain of around level 2 or 3 elite general realm and back up Rulf in case those lurking demon generals in the demon army try to do sothing funny."
"Yes, guild master," Udo nodded his head and understood the old guild master's intentions.
Without wasting any ti, Udo went to the resting rcenaries and casually looked at all the rcenary squads and picked 3 teams which he was sowhat familiar with and had confidence that they would be helpful in his mission.
Since Udo was the intelligence of the Hazegroove rcenary squad, he always keeps tabs on the other rcenary squads. So, he was able to easily pick the rcenary squad and returned back the old guild master.
"Just like always, you picked the rcenary squads with just a glance. Now go and keep so distance away from the demon army and follow them," the old guild master smiled as he looked at Udo and ordered him to go behind the demon army.
