Shen Changfeng, carrying a backpack and dragging a suitcase, walked into the high-speed train station with steady yet slow steps.
The passengers around him hurriedly rushed past, moving forward swiftly, then placing their luggage onto the conveyor belt of the X-ray security scanner.
The black conveyor belt humd forward, people moved quickly forward, the rhythm was stable and smooth.
Shen Changfeng stopped, and said to the security officer nearby: "The things I brought might be sowhat special, I’m from..."
"Hurry up," a passenger behind him urged: "We’re in a rush, soon it’ll be too late."
The rhythm of moving forward was interrupted, and the people behind paused, looking ahead.
The security officer then also urged: "Put your things on first, co in for inspection."
Seeing this, Shen Changfeng didn’t bother saying anything more, he placed his backpack and suitcase separately on the conveyor, passed through the security gate, then said: "I’m from East Birch City..."
"Wait a mont, co over here and open the suitcase for a look." The security officer sitting behind the scanner stood up, staring intently at Shen Changfeng.
Shen Changfeng sighed, walked over, laid the suitcase flat, and opened it.
Two transparent boxes with blue covers were displayed in front of several people.
"What about over here?" The security officer placed one hand on his hip, gesturing for his colleague nearby to co over as well.
The security officers in front and behind saw this, and each with one hand on their hips, gathered around and temporarily sealed off the passage.
The passengers behind frowned, standing and watching.
Shen Changfeng could only pull open the curtain on the other side of the suitcase while saying, "I’m a forensic doctor from East Birch City Bureau, heading to Beijing for work..."
So of the security officers in front were listening to him speak, so were staring at him or the suitcase.
As soon as Shen Changfeng opened the curtain, one person imdiately exclaid "Ah!"
"Ah..."
Soone among the passengers behind also saw it and shouted.
Shen Changfeng stepped back, remaining calm, and repeated: "I’m a forensic doctor from East Birch City Bureau!"
This ti, even fewer people were listening to him.
Because everyone clearly saw that what lay inside the suitcase was a complete skull and several thick bones. For ordinary people, seeing such things, the brain processes slowly, reacts intensely, and uttering sothing unconsciously is quite normal.
"What is this?" The security officer nearby pointed from a distance at the obvious white human skull.
"I am a forensic doctor. From East Birch City." Shen Changfeng calmly, seemingly answering off-topic, but he knew from experience that this was what the security officer wanted.
Sure enough, the security officer, with his brain briefly frozen, understood, turned pale, and said: "You’re a forensic doctor, so this is a real human head?"
"Yes. Just bones." Shen Changfeng tried to explain lightly, repeating: "I am from East Birch City Bureau, these are to be taken to Beijing for testing."
The opposite security officer suddenly shivered all over, fixed his gaze on Shen Changfeng, and loudly said: "Your docunts!"
Shen Changfeng slowly reached into his pocket and took them out.
"Place them, put it on top, I’ll look myself." The officer didn’t even take them but used a baton to poke at them.
Shen Changfeng let him be.
Now he slightly regretted not finding soone. Although there’s a special police station at the high-speed train station, due to Shen Changfeng being a relatively young newcor, he didn’t know many people. Finding an acquaintance at the high-speed train station police station would require asking soone to refer him, which was sowhat troubleso.
To be fair, the police station at East Birch City’s high-speed train station is a bit tough; Shen Changfeng as a minor officer wouldn’t feel comfortable dealing with them, better to just pass through normally.
Anyway, the shock wasn’t on him.
"Are the other bones human too?" The security officer finished checking the docunts, confirming he was indeed a forensic doctor, looking even more uncomfortable, realizing the bones in front were genuine.
Shen Changfeng nodded: "They all are."
"Hmm... What else? Turn over below." The security officer suppressed his discomfort.
"9 brain slices, 7 heart slices, 5 lung slices..." Shen Changfeng took out another box pressed below, displaying the pathology slices he was transporting.
"Ugh..." The security officer barely glanced before quickly waving his hand: "Go through security again..."
...
When Shen Changfeng arrived in Beijing, his team leader and others were already there.
Shen Changfeng was also among the first to see the fad forensic expert from Ningtai County—Jiang Yuan.
"Forensic Doctor Shen? Shall we arrange the body?" A young forensic doctor ca over and greeted Shen Changfeng.
"Oh, sure. You are..." Shen Changfeng cautiously asked.
"I’m Miao Ruixiang, also a forensic doctor from Ningtai County." Miao Ruixiang smiled likewise.
Shen Changfeng imdiately nodded: "I know I know, you’re Director Jiang’s junior, Forensic Doctor Miao, nice to et you."
Miao Ruixiang quickly shook his hand. He knew he had gained a bit of reputation, but coming to fa like this made him uneasy.
Together they arranged the skeleton piece by piece on an autopsy table, making it vaguely resemble a human form.
Once they finished arranging, Jiang Yuan followed Zhengguang Bureau’s team leader Cui Qishan, East Birch City’s Criminal Police Brigade’s Team 1 leader Li Guangnian, joining them.
The cri scene and first autopsy photos of this male corpse had all been seen by Jiang Yuan before. As for the state of being boiled down to bone fragnts, it was due to the second post-mortem examination.
Indeed, this corpse had already undergone a second post-mortem examination and a forensic anthropology investigation, conducted by experts from the local provincial departnt.
Yet, there are many cases unsolved even by experts.
East Birch City Bureau seed exceptionally proactive, proactive because of outside help, additional due to the major and difficult case, and specifically because it was Jiang Yuan who was called upon.
At this mont, Li Guangnian’s eyes appeared particularly bright, he hoped that the esteed Jiang Yuan, upon seeing the corpse, would demonstrate extraordinary skills, shining brightly, swiftly solving the case that troubled the entire bureau for several months, freeing everyone’s burden and granting peace to the victim’s family...
Jiang Yuan carefully examined the skeleton.
Various photos he had just seen, and were fresh in mory, but the difference between the photos and the actual object was rather significant. Not that it’s undoable, but the information that actual objects bring is vastly more.
Not to ntion the difference between two-dinsional and three-dinsional perspectives, the distinction in real-ti operations is also extrely large. Especially for a forensic expert like Jiang Yuan, facing tangible objects at the scene, any doubts can be explored or cut on the spot or resorting to X-ray machines and other devices, whereas photos and videos fall short.
Moreover, elasticity, decomposition degree, blood distribution, or other aspects in different states may require forensic touch to ascertain.
Different shooting angles, colors, lighting, and resolution can often conceal details, like mild subcutaneous bleeding, or seemingly trivial normal subcutaneous bleeding doesn’t hinder processes, but what about subcutaneous bleeding of the genitalia or eye area.
So hidden needle holes, bleeding spots, or wounds can often entirely disrupt a post-mortem result.
On the whole, there’s a vast difference between evaluating via image and performing a physical post-mortem, akin to the difference between evaluating a fetish target via image vs physical touch, appearing equally hairy, yet feeling decidedly different in softness, texture, and moistness.
Jiang Yuan examined from top to bottom, varying speed.
Shen Changfeng, comparing his examination conclusions, secretly assessed.
Hyoid bone, clavicle, cervical vertebrae, ribs, sternum, lumbar vertebrae...
Jiang Yuan did not speak during the first round of inspection, to avoid potential misinformation to the relatively unfamiliar East Birch City criminal police officers.
This on the contrary made Li Guangnian and others more tense, as he, being the team leader, was responsible for overseeing the entire case, and couldn’t help walking over to Shen Changfeng, and softly asked: "How do you think it looks?"
"There’s no quick conclusion for this." Despite being a young forensic doctor, Shen Changfeng had the basic knowledge, softly explaining: "Forensic anthropology is inherently difficult to judge, many key points require ticulous judgnt to determine the cause, now rely observing at the scene, directly providing conclusions isn’t feasible..."
Li Guangnian nodded in agreent, softly patting Shen Changfeng’s shoulder twice to express acknowledgnt.
"It’s definitely the sa perpetrator." Jiang Yuan raised his head, providing a conclusion.
Li Guangnian’s hand, unconsciously, patted once again on Shen Changfeng’s shoulder, slightly heavier.
