Chapter 1219: Chapter 1147: Halfway
“Dinner ti, co and eat.”
The foreman was banging a beat-up pot, making a clanging noise.
The master worker, filled with disdain, said, “In my hotown, people who bang pots like this end up begging for food sooner or later.”
“I’m giving you a midnight snack, and you’re still complaining?” The foreman, annoyed, knocked the pot a few more tis.
The master worker said indifferently, “I’m not eating now; I’ll work for another half an hour. Just give a bowl of dishes and five stead buns; I’ll eat after I’m done working.”
“Working so hard?”
“You promised to settle the accounts every four hours. Are you trying to delay it?” The master worker looked up.
“Why would I? We settle based on the amount of work done; the more you do, the more I earn. Why would I try to cheat you?” The foreman hurriedly explained, and then added, “Whether you eat the midnight snack is up to you, but make sure the work is done well, or it’s ti wasted for you if it needs redoing.”
“Got it. The project you took on sure has a tight deadline.”
“Short deadlines co with better pay.”
The master worker continued working without lifting his head, asking, “Who did you contact this ti? You’re working day and night without fearing complaints from residents?”
“It’s a governnt project. Let them complain if they want; it doesn’t affect . If the sky falls, there’s soone taller to hold it up.” The foreman spoke indifferently but couldn’t hide his smugness.
The master worker, motivated by the money, praised, “This project is good. We benefit from doing it; you benefit imnsely. Wait, you benefit enormously, don’t you?”
“I can earn so money, but you never know with governnt projects when they’ll settle accounts and pay. But you, with twice the wages and paynt every four hours, isn’t that great?”
“It was great in the beginning. Now, it’s just okay. I’m getting worn out.” The master worker, truly exhausted, had been working non-stop since yesterday with hardly any rest.
The foreman said, “You hang in there for another half hour, and I’ll pay you, then you can sleep for eight hours before I wake you up for more work.”
The master worker looked at him suspiciously, “You’re not planning to replace , are you?”
“I can’t find anyone. If I had soone, I’d bring them in directly, wouldn’t need to deceive you. You can keep working if you want, but we calculate pay by workload, settling every four hours. I suggest you sleep a bit and work more efficiently after waking up.”
“Then leave the work for , and I’ll do it when I wake up.” The master worker was reluctant to give up the double wage.
The foreman chuckled, “What are you thinking? The clients aren’t fools; they pay based on ti to seize monts. To be honest, if the project is delayed, they deduct half the money right away. See them installing caras on the electrical poles over there? It’s an eight-hour shift rotation, can’t overwork even if you want to; they’re afraid you might fall and die.”
“With safety ropes and shoes, all that talk about falling to death is nonsense.” The master worker spat, “We’re installing fences; they’re repairing roads while installing caras there. Is this so kind of new city developnt? Are house prices going up?”
“Going up or not, I can’t afford it anyway.” The foreman sighed, “What’s it got to do with us.”
…
On the Five-star Pavilion Overpass.
At the edge where people aren’t supposed to stand, two repair vehicles with lights were blocking front and back. A group of people stood in the center, observing around.
A few workers were installing caras on the bridge’s side. Jiang Yuan, dressed casually, stretched out his head, carefully directing positions.
After quite a while, Jiang Yuan was pulled back up; his clothes and pants were all dirty.
Huang Qiangmin sympathetically patted him a couple of tis and handed Jiang Yuan a bottle of water, saying, “Is it necessary to be so ticulous?”
“Key points need to be adjusted properly; only then can I confirm the paraters when I return.” Jiang Yuan explained to Huang Qiangmin, “This is monitoring placent control based on GIS technology. I’ll also make so adjustnts for our Ningtai County when we get back. GIS is the Geographic Information System, used for analysis with great results.”
“Good, good, we’ll implent it as soon as we return.” Huang Qiangmin nodded repeatedly. Once this project is smoothly done, it’ll bring everything with it.
“I’ll go check the caras on the east side.” Jiang Yuan drank two sips of water and proceeded with the inspection.
Just yesterday, Jiang Yuan had used the last reserve first-class ritorious dal and upgraded the tech-based surveillance (Level 3) to Level 6.
With this foundation, even without the temporary skill 1, Jiang Yuan’s technical surveillance skills are also the best in the country. With the temporary 1, the skills temporarily boosted to LV7 in technical surveillance are world-class.
As for GIS and the like, just from the na, one can tell it’s a very advanced technology. In fact, it is, because it involves massive amounts of data, pertaining to geography, spatial, model analysis, etc., and major cities in the country are just attempting to update similar surveillance systems. The academic level overseas is higher, but large-scale practice is almost nonexistent. When it cos to the application level, there’s not necessarily anyone who can reach Jiang Yuan’s level.
However, three days is indeed too tight, and in fact, because ti has to be left for debugging, and so ti given for the new surveillance system to record information, the ti available for installing technical defense facilities such as caras is even shorter.
Fortunately, Jiang Yuan only wants to catch a drug trafficking gang and does not intend to establish a set of flawless technical defense systems. Therefore, his solution is to try to buy the best available equipnt, focus on debugging so caras, and achieve as comprehensive coverage as possible at key nodes.
As for places not covered, what to do? Easy, just organize municipal works, block roads where technical defense equipnt couldn’t be installed in ti, and at the sa ti, install so caras relatively freely around the construction site.
Local residents’ commutes for work and rest in the evening will inevitably be affected, but under the coordination of the anti-drug squad, these are not too big problems.
Moreover, with the entry of nurous construction teams, rumors of demolition, urban subcenter, and traffic hubs began to circulate around the Five-point Pavilion area.
Aside from increasing so curious onlookers, the overall construction wasn’t much affected.
Except for Jiang Yuan, no one understood what these projects were actually for. Everyone seed like viewers watching an artist sketch, only seeing strokes here and smudges there with lines drawn at tis and shades erased at others – a totally chaotic state…
Of course, everyone believes that Jiang Yuan would eventually make these tasks aningful, just like a painting suddenly taking form in its ordinary sense at a certain stage.
But believe as they might, bewildernt persisted, adding multiple layers of anxiety for the police officers of the anti-drug squad.
Jiang Yuan wandered on the overpass for a while, took advantage of the high vantage point to observe the surroundings, and then returned to those waiting, including Yuan Bomian, saying, “Almost done, this overpass is very well positioned, it’s well-connected, and everything around is within range. You should hurry with construction; I’ll start the debugging after dinner, get this side running independently first, don’t delay, it must be completed before midnight.”
The person in charge of the technical defense facility installation habitually complained, “Director Jiang, the ti is really too tight, give us a bit of leeway, and we can install it better.”
“There are no poorly installed options,” Jiang Yuan shook his head imdiately and said sternly, “The best scenario is if we can finish before nightfall, so we can take more footage using the night mode of the caras… As for your President Li, he gave a military order and was generous with the money, too.”
The construction site manager, used to either quarreling or being scolded all day, didn’t find Jiang Yuan’s tone harsh and said with a thick skin, “We’ll try our best to install as well as possible, the bonus you give is indeed quite a lot, but the workload is really big…”
Yuan Bomian couldn’t listen anymore, ca over, handed a cigarette to Mr. Zhang, the site manager, and said softly, “I was too busy before, just hurriedly chatted with your President Li, didn’t take care of this side, Mr. Zhang, right? Is there a problem on your side?”
Mr. Zhang hastily replied, “Ti is too tight…”
Yuan Bomian wasn’t really interested in listening and interrupted him imdiately, “Mr. Zhang, you were directly appointed by President Li, he told , as long as it’s the site you’re in charge of, there’s no overdue, is that right?”
“Ti is really tight.” Mr. Zhang truly had difficulties.
Yuan Bomian gave a chuckle, then slowly said, “We’re doing this in such a hurry, it’s really a bit hard on you guys. As for why it’s so urgent, I can’t tell you, I can only say, if you complete on ti or even ahead of schedule, you might save a life. If you exceed the ti limit, this could be your only ti exceeding deadlines in this life, and it might cause a good person to die.”
“You’re making it sound so serious, my small shoulders can’t bear this,” the site manager, accustod to his work mode, still wanted to argue for more ti.
“It’s okay, your President Li can’t bear it either, you’ll die together,” said Yuan Bomian, as he dialed a number in front of him and said, “President Li, where are you? Nearby, huh? Well, you co to the overpass site and keep watch. If it’s not done by 10 o’clock tonight, you’re finished.”
Turning his head, Yuan Bomian said to Mr. Zhang, “Don’t bear any psychological burden, just do your work well and show your skills. If it’s not done by midnight, President Li will take the fall for you, after all, he gave the military order, he is surely responsible.”
“I’ll get working,” Mr. Zhang checked his watch and had no other choice.
Yuan Bomian turned and walked to Jiang Yuan’s side, then whispered, “The list of drug addicts and dealers around the Five-point Pavilion that the squad has gathered, it’s all compiled, I can apply for it at any ti if you want to see it. However, if you want to catch people, you need to notify in advance because there may be informants and undercover agents from other cases in there.”
“I understand,” Jiang Yuan nodded.
“Like this, can we find them?” Yuan Bomian was now idle after providing everything he could, so he was more nervous.
“Yes,” Jiang Yuan gave a definite answer, adding only one thing, “As long as this drug trafficking gang doesn’t change locations, and the drug dealers weren’t scared off by our construction, we will certainly find them.”
“They won’t move. Drug manufacturing workshops can be moved randomly, but drug trafficking cannot easily cross regions. They buy arms mainly for gang fights,” Yuan Bomian assured, also reassuring himself, and continued, “Drug dealers rely on drug addicts to survive, now the scrutiny is strict, drug-addicted junkies dare not keep much stock on hand, and they mainly can’t store it. If they run out, they must buy more, if they don’t sell, others will, and once the market is lost, it’s hard to regain.”
Yuan Bomian paused, his tone becoming more certain, “Drug dealers live like there’s no tomorrow, surviving is good luck, not because of accurate judgnt. We’ve set up all these construction sites, just making them feel at ease. Installing caras isn’t new either. However, they certainly won’t hang around near the caras.”
“A fleeting trace leaves a mark, they can’t escape,” Jiang Yuan slightly comforted Yuan Bomian, then said, “We are fighting a positional war; now that the position is established, the battle is halfway won.”
