The Thunder God Tribe and Team Fairy Tail had expected the fight to wind down after that explosive display of physical combat. Instead, they watched with growing unease as the power radiating from both Laxus and Shisui kept climbing.
"This is sothing else…" Jet muttered.
Max nodded grimly, his eyes never leaving the two combatants. "Maybe only Gildarts could step into that fight and co out unscathed."
The admission stung, but it was honest. They'd all grown stronger under Shisui's training, had proven themselves capable mages in their own right. But watching this display of raw power made their own abilities feel inadequate by comparison.
Bisca's voice carried a note of concern that hadn't been there before. "I love our Fairies, but in a contest of pure physical capabilities, even Erza and Mirajane might struggle to keep up with either of them."
The Thunder God Tribe exchanged glances. They'd seen Laxus fight before, so they knew his strength intimately. But this level of exertion, this degree of serious combat, was sothing they'd rarely witnessed. Their leader was being pushed in ways that few opponents had ever managed.
Shisui straightened slowly, his movents deliberately slow and controlled. His hands ca together in a series of hand gestures that none of the Thunder God Tribe mages recognized. Boar. Horse. Tiger. Each hand seal was perford slowly, muscle mory guiding fingers through patterns that had been drilled into him years ago.
He drew in a deep breath, his chest expanding as he gathered chakra.
Fire Style: Great Fireball!
The technique erupted from his mouth as a sphere of intense fla that grew larger as it travelled. The heat was imdiately noticeable, even from the spectators' position behind their hastily erected barriers. The fireball rolled across the training ground, scorching everything in its path.
Laxus launched himself skyward, avoiding the attack with room to spare. But he wasn't content to simply dodge.
"You want to play with fire?" He shouted, electricity gathering around him. "Then I'll give you lightning!"
Crackling arcs of electrical energy enveloped his raised hands before he released it towards Shisui.
Lightning Dragon's Heavenward Fang!
Jagged lightning erupted from above, not just a single bolt but an entire network of electrical energy that exploded outward in a shockwave of pure power. The ground where Shisui had been standing was obliterated, leaving a smoking crater in its wake.
But Shisui was no longer there.
"Impressive." He acknowledged, already forming new hand seals. "But can you handle quantity over power?"
Fire Style: Phoenix Flower!
The technique unleashed a rapid-fire spread of smaller fireballs. They filled the air like a swarm of angry hornets, covering multiple escape routes and forcing Laxus to make split-second decisions.
The Dragon Slayer moved like his nasake, flickering across the terrain in bursts of lightning-enhanced speed. He wove between the fla bullets with inhuman agility, each near miss close enough to singe his clothes.
"Too predictable!" He called out, closing the distance even as he dodged.
Shisui switched tactics mid-attack, his hands moving through new seals.
Fire Style: Firestorm Crescent!
A scythe-shaped arc of rotating fla swept across the battlefield, its curved edge designed to catch opponents who thought they'd found safe ground. The technique was beautiful and deadly, the fire spinning fast enough to create its own wind currents.
Laxus t it head-on, electricity coating his fists as he punched straight through the inferno.
Lightning Dragon's Fist!
His fist smashed through the rotating flas with brute force, dispersing the technique in a shower of sparks and dissipating heat. Steam rose from his knuckles where fire had t lightning, but he showed no signs of further injury.
The training ground had beco a scorched, electrically charged arena. Heat haze rose from blackened earth while static electricity made the air itself feel alive. The combined effects of their magical clash had transford the peaceful training ground into sothing resembling a war zone.
From behind their barrier, Roo watched with the analytical eye that Shisui had trained into him.
"They're not trying to win yet… They're still just testing each other's limits." He said quietly.
The observation was accurate. Despite the destructive power being thrown around, neither fighter was committing to truly decisive attacks. They were feeling each other out, learning the extent of their opponent's capabilities.
"You're right, Roo." Shisui called out, apparently having heard the comnt despite the distance. "Laxus, if this is the standard of S-class power in Fairy Tail, then the guild's past glory is well within reach now that all of you have returned."
Laxus landed gracefully, electricity still crackling around his form. "Don't sell yourself short. You're not all bark after all. You've got the power to back up that reputation."
The mutual respect was clear in their voices, the acknowledgnt of worthy opponents who had found sothing rare in each other. It was the kind of recognition that only ca between fighters who could operate on similar levels of ability.
"I think it's about ti we turned up the heat." Shisui said, his hands already moving through a more complex series of seals.
The hand signs were longer this ti, more intricate. When he finished, the chakra gathered in his chest felt different. More focused. More dangerous.
Fire Style: Fire Dragon Fla Bomb!
The technique that erged was unlike anything the observers had seen before. A stream of fire shaped like a massive dragon's head stread toward Laxus, its mouth opened in a deafening roar. The flas were so intense they seed almost solid, carrying with them a heat that made the earlier fire attacks feel like a fire from a small candle.
Laxus didn't dodge this ti. Instead, he planted his feet and drew in a deep breath of his own.
Lightning Dragon's Roar!
Although it was the sa technique, but this wasn't the sa level he'd used against Team Fairy Tail earlier. This roar was magnitudes stronger, a concentrated beam of electrical destruction that t the fire dragon head-on.
The collision was cataclysmic as fire and lightning crashed together at the centre of the training ground, neither technique giving ground. The impact created a sphere of chaotic energy that grew larger by the second, threatening to engulf everything around it.
Freed's barrier, reinforced by Max's sand constructs, began to crack under the pressure. The spectators pressed closer together, watching in terrified awe as two of the most powerful attacks they'd ever seen tried to devour each other.
"The barrier's not going to hold!" Max shouted over the roar of competing energies.
For nearly thirty seconds, the attacks remained locked in their deadly embrace. Then, gradually, Laxus's Lightning Dragon's Roar began to weaken. The electrical energy was being overwheld by the sheer sustained power of Shisui's fire.
At the last second, Laxus cancelled his own attack and threw himself aside. The dragon-shaped flas, now infused with absorbed lightning energy, continued their path toward the forest beyond the training ground.
Before the enhanced attack could reach the trees, Shisui appeared directly in its path. His hands ford a final set of seals, and wind burst from his mouth at a precise angle.
Wind Style: Vacuum Wave!
The stream of air caught the fire-lightning hybrid and redirected it upward, sending the combined technique soaring into the sky like a rocket. The redirection didn't diminish its power, though. If anything, the wind enhancent made it stronger, more concentrated.
The spectators watched in stunned silence as the attack climbed higher and higher, carrying its destructive payload toward the clouds above.
