Land of Grass.

Three figures walked beneath the yellowish sky.

Aoki walked at the very front. His steps were steady, his gaze sharp, constantly scanning his surroundings for any movent.

The entire Land of Grass was the battlefield between Konoha and Iwagakure. As they moved within the Land of Grass, they had to be extrely careful.

Aoki’s taut nerves rarely had ti to relax. Following him, a little further back, were Haruki and Nagato.

Haruki still carried his long sword on his back, his black short hair was sowhat disheveled by the wind, and his blue eyes curiously surveyed his surroundings. His belongings were stored in his shadow, leaving him with only his sword.

Nagato was quiet throughout the journey, his Rinnegan hidden beneath his red hair and lowered eyelids.

They had stayed in that small town for quite so ti, and it was ti to leave.

Crows soared in the sky, flying ahead to scout for Haruki.

The suffering of the Land of Grass was like its endless wilderness, with no discernible boundaries.

Their destination was the next village near the battlefield.

Aoki stopped, and after Haruki and Nagato caught up to him, he pointed to the pass between two low hills ahead and said, "After passing through the valley ahead, we should reach the next town in about half a day’s walk."

He had once fought Konoha ninjas on the lands of the Land of Grass, and although he couldn’t claim to be particularly familiar with the situation in the Land of Grass, he was at least sure he knew it better than Haruki and Nagato.

Haruki looked in the direction Aoki was pointing, his pupils suddenly unfocused for a mont, then he nodded and smiled. "Okay."

With the help of the crows that had flown far ahead, Haruki had already seen the town.

Nagato nodded slightly. He was always this quiet, Aoki was already used to it.

Haruki’s gaze, however, swept past the plain in front of them, focusing on the faintly visible wooden bridge at the pass.

It was a bridge that looked quite old, spanning a dry riverbed.

The wood of the bridge had turned a grayish-black from exposure to wind and sun, and it didn’t look very sturdy.

The three of them walked towards the wooden bridge.

Aoki frowned. For so reason, the closer they got to the bridge, the more uneasy he felt.

An indescribable sense of oppression swept through Nagato’s heart, and his Rinnegan rotated, scanning the surroundings.

Nagato pursed his lips, a flicker of vigilance in his eyes. He said nothing, but his guard was raised to the highest level.

Among the three, only Haruki continued forward as if he had noticed nothing, and they gradually approached the wooden bridge.

[A total of 24000 killing intent points have been collected. Your Slaughter Curse growth value has risen to 16.3%]

Haruki sighed inwardly.

It was hard for him to even pretend not to know.

Unless he could et soone who wanted to kill him but had no killing intent.

Is that possible?

Haruki had not t such a person to this day. He estimated that such a person probably didn’t exist.

The wind seed to have died down here, and the surroundings were unusually quiet.

There was only the rustling of their footsteps on the gravel, and the occasional faint groan of the old wooden planks of the bridge in the wind.

Aoki’s brows furrowed tighter and tighter.

Too quiet.

Even the most common sounds of insects and birds had disappeared.

Aoki’s hand silently reached for the ninja tool pouch tied to his thigh. His nerves beca highly tense.

He instinctively took a step closer to Haruki and Nagato, lowering his voice beside them and saying, "Haruki, Nagato, it seems a little..."

Before he could finish his sentence—

A sudden change occurred.

Just as they had stepped less than a third of the way onto the bridge.

From behind the rocks of the dry riverbed on both sides of the bridge, and behind several large weathered rocks at the bridgehead, seven or eight figures suddenly darted out without warning.

They were uniformly clad in Iwagakure Ninja vests, moving as swiftly as leopards, coordinating seamlessly, clearly having laid in ambush there for a long ti.

Without any warning or inquiry, a cold killing intent instantly engulfed the three of them like a tide.

"Enemy attack! Disperse!" Aoki’s roar resounded like a clap of thunder.

He reacted by instinct, rapidly forming hand signs with both hands.

Earth Release: Earth Style Wall!

Boom!

A thick earth wall suddenly rose from the bridge, narrowly blocking the rain-like Shuriken and Kunai shot from in front.

The clanging of impacts rang out densely, and the earth wall was instantly studded with gleaming ninja tools.

However, the attacks ca from all directions, far from just there.

Almost simultaneously with Aoki’s frontal defense, ninjas leaped from both sides and the rear, their weapons glinting with cold light, shooting straight towards Haruki and Nagato.

Haruki’s hand gripped his sword hilt.

"Haruki!"

Nagato’s reaction was astonishingly fast. He was no longer the person who would stand still and wait for others to save him.

A cold light suddenly shot out from his Rinnegan.

He extended both hands towards the Shuriken flying towards him.

Bang—

An invisible repulsive force, centered on Nagato, swept outwards.

The weapons flying towards Haruki and his companions in the air were instantly repelled.

Whoosh—

A sharp long sword sliced down towards Nagato’s back. Haruki’s long sword parried the sneak attack. Sparks flew from the sharp blade.

rcury-ford needles shot towards the ninja opposite Haruki.

The Iwagakure ninja’s pupils suddenly contracted. He violently drew his sword, wanting to create distance from Haruki and avoid the flying rcury needles. However, he was still a step too late.

"Ahhhhh!"

The Iwa ninja covered his eyes.

Blood flowed from between his fingers.
