Chapter 138: The Trap Springs

Ren and Karin waited in a desolate, rocky clearing on the outskirts of Kumogakure, a place chosen for its isolation. The only sounds were the whistling wind and the distant hum of the village.

A faint smirk touched Ren's lips. “They’re returning.”

Karin nodded, her eyes closed as she focused. “I sense them. The Two-Tails Jinchuriki is in pursuit. It seems that idiot Suigetsu managed not to botch the simple task.”

“Good. The mont Yugito Nii appears, we move to subdue her. We cannot allow her to alert the entire village,” Ren instructed, his voice low and focused.

Karin’s brow furrowed slightly. “There’s a complication. The kunoichi who was with her isn’t following. She must have gone to raise the alarm. It’s the logical response to seeing ‘Akatsuki’ operatives.”

Ren’s eyes narrowed. “A valid point. Then we accelerate the plan. We capture the Jinchuriki and extract ourselves before Cloud reinforcents can mobilize.”

Their discussion was cut short as two figures in distinctive black-and-red cloaks burst into the clearing—Suigetsu and Jūgo. Hot on their heels was a blonde kunoichi, her expression a mix of fury and determination. This was Yugito Nii.

Seeing they had reached the rendezvous point, Suigetsu skidded to a halt and turned, a wide grin splitting his face. Jūgo stopped beside him, his posture shifting from flight to readiness.

Yugito also stopped, her eyes scanning the two “Akatsuki” mbers and then flicking to the two additional figures waiting in the shadows. Her sneer was confident. “So, you’re mbers of Akatsuki? What is your purpose in my village?”

Suigetsu didn’t answer with words. With a mocking laugh, he swung the massive Kubikiribōchō off his shoulder, its blade carving a deep furrow in the earth as he aid a horizontal slash at her.

Tch. Yugito effortlessly leaped backward, the sword whistling harmlessly through the air where she had been standing. Follow current novels on N()velFire

“Heheh~ Not bad! You’re quick!” Suigetsu chuckled, hefting the sword back onto his shoulder. “But then, my attack speed is the slowest on the team, besides Four-Eyes over there. Can’t expect to hit much!”

“Team? ‘Eagle Squad’?” Yugito’s eyes sharpened. “You’re not Akatsuki. You lured here. I am your target.”

“Took you long enough to figure it out!” Suigetsu taunted. “But yeah, you’re not getting away from us now.”

“Suigetsu,” Jūgo interjected, his voice a low rumble. “Do not underestimate her. She is a Jinchuriki. A mont of carelessness could be fatal.”

“Relax, Jūgo! You worry too much,” Suigetsu waved him off.

“We must finish this quickly,” Jūgo insisted, his concern overriding Suigetsu’s bravado. “Her companion has likely alerted the village. We have limited ti.”

“I know, I know!” Suigetsu grumbled, finally adopting a proper combat stance, both hands gripping the Kubikiribōchō’s hilt.

Yugito’s confidence didn’t waver. “You think you have cornered? I will defend the honor of Kumogakure and the Two-Tails… by killing you both!”

“Kill us?!” Suigetsu roared, his temper flaring. “You’ve got so nerve!” He lunged forward again, the greatsword sweeping in a deadly arc.

This ti, Yugito didn’t just dodge. A surge of potent, blue chakra erupted around her. Two shimring, ethereal tails of energy materialized behind her, lashing the air. Her nails elongated into sharp claws. She had entered a partial Tailed Beast State, enhancing her speed and power without losing her human form.

She moved like lightning, closing the distance faster than Suigetsu could react. Her clawed hand shot forward, aiming to disembowel him.

But instead of tearing through flesh, her claws passed through Suigetsu’s torso with a splash. His body liquefied into water for an instant before reforming.

“What?!” Yugito gasped, leaping back in surprise.

“Yikes! That was close!” Suigetsu said, shaking his water-splashed head. “Good thing us Hōzuki aren’t so easy to kill!”

“I told you to be careful,” Jūgo repeated, stepping forward to stand beside his teammate. He shrugged off the Akatsuki cloak, revealing his powerful fra. “We fight together now.”

As he spoke, dark, curse-like markings spread across half of Jūgo’s face. His left arm grotesquely transford, morphing into a monstrous limb covered in spiked, pipe-like protrusions. The air around him grew heavy with a bestial aura.

“Fine, fine. Teamwork it is,” Suigetsu conceded, his grin returning but now edged with seriousness.

Yugito eyed them both, her two tails swishing nacingly. “You think teaming up will change the outco? It doesn’t matter to .”

Jūgo didn’t respond with words. He rely snorted, clenched his transford fist, and launched himself at Yugito with explosive speed.

The real fight for the Two-Tails had begun.
