While Uchiha Fugaku and the Uchiha elders were holding their eting, a similar yet far less harmonious conversation was taking place in the Root base.
"Danzo-sama, Uchiha Fugaku is too arrogant! He completely disregards you and our Shimura family!"
Shimura Naoya, still nursing a swollen face and bruises, could barely contain his fury.
His plan to use the recent conflict with the Uchiha clan to establish himself as a strong and capable leader had backfired spectacularly. Fugaku's audacity to imprison him, the head of the Shimura family, had utterly humiliated him. Instead of gaining the respect of his clan, Naoya could feel their distrust growing. The whispers and sidelong glances on his way out of the Guard Departnt had been unbearable.
Danzo Shimura glanced at Naoya, his visible eye narrowing slightly. The man's injuries were glaring evidence of the Uchiha's defiance, but his deanor only made Danzo question his leadership abilities. For a brief mont, he regretted nominating Naoya as head of the Shimura clan.
Still, there was truth in Naoya's words. Uchiha Fugaku had indeed grown bolder, a developnt that could not be ignored.
Danzo's voice was cold. "Compared to before, Fugaku is far more audacious. Sothing has emboldened him."
Shimura Naoya, eager to redeem himself, chid in, "It must be Uchiha Shisui. Seeing their clan produce such a prodigious talent has likely gone to Fugaku's head."
Naoya's tone turned bitter as he continued, "Shisui truly is a genius. If only the Shimura family had soone like him. A single genius could elevate our entire clan."
Danzo sneered. "The Uchiha clan has indeed produced a genius, but it's unfortunate that this genius does not belong to them."
Naoya blinked, confused. "Danzo-sama, what do you an by that? Shisui is clearly an Uchiha. How can he not belong to their clan?"
Danzo's lips curled into a smirk. "That is not sothing you need to concern yourself with."
Shisui's true allegiance was a closely guarded secret known only to Danzo, the Third Hokage, and a select few. Shisui's loyalty had long been redirected to serve the Hokage, a victory Danzo was proud of, though he still resented that the young Uchiha had not joined Root.
Naoya frowned but didn't press further. Realizing he wouldn't get an answer, he decided to steer the conversation back to his vendetta. "Danzo-sama, we must avenge today's humiliation. If we don't, our Shimura family will beco the laughingstock of the village."
Danzo's sharp gaze locked onto Naoya, the intensity in his eye making the younger man flinch. He saw through Naoya's motives instantly.
"You want revenge? Fine," Danzo said, his voice dripping with malice. "I will give you that opportunity. Soon, I will find a way to lure Uchiha Fugaku out of the village. When I do, you will lead the mission to eliminate him."
"What?" Naoya's voice cracked, his eyes wide with shock. He stamred, "Danzo-sama, you... you want to...?"
"You wanted revenge, didn't you?" Danzo's tone was ice-cold. "Now I'm giving you the chance. Or are you afraid?"
Naoya gulped, panic spreading through him. He had hoped for a calculated display of power by Danzo or Root, not to be tasked with eliminating Fugaku himself.
"Danzo-sama, it's not that I'm afraid," Naoya said carefully. "But such an act carries imnse risk. If the village were to discover this, I would have no choice but to defect."
Danzo's sneer deepened. "Who said the village needs to find out? If it's done cleanly, there will be no evidence. No one will know."
Despite Danzo's assurances, Naoya was unconvinced. His mind raced as he sought a way to deflect responsibility. "Danzo-sama, forgive for speaking bluntly, but my strength is only that of an elite jonin. Uchiha Fugaku is no ordinary shinobi. I'm afraid I lack the capability to take him down. Wouldn't it be wiser for Root's elite operatives to handle this mission? That way, success is guaranteed."
Danzo frowned, displeased by Naoya's lack of resolve. "You'll have support from my best Root operatives. Do you still lack the courage for a simple mission?"
Naoya's heart sank. Danzo's disappointnt was evident, and he feared being replaced as clan head if he refused outright. But the idea of facing Fugaku was daunting. He decided to try a different tactic.
"Danzo-sama, you may be underestimating Uchiha Fugaku," Naoya said cautiously.
Danzo's visible eye narrowed. "Explain."
Naoya hesitated, choosing his words carefully. "Fugaku's strength may be far beyond what we've assud. If we act without fully understanding his capabilities, we risk failure."
Danzo's gaze sharpened. "What are you implying? How strong do you think he is?"
Naoya took a deep breath. "Based on recent events and his newfound confidence, I believe Uchiha Fugaku may have reached Kage-level strength. Perhaps... he may even be on par with a Kage."
Danzo's eye widened slightly at the assertion, though he quickly masked his reaction. "Kage-level? Do you have any evidence to support such a claim?"
"Not directly," Naoya admitted, "but consider the facts. Fugaku openly defied both the Shimura family and Root without hesitation. He clearly doesn't fear us. That kind of confidence only cos from soone who knows their strength is unmatched. Furthermore, the Uchiha clan has grown unusually quiet under his leadership. It's as if they're all following a carefully crafted plan. What if Fugaku has power none of us have seen yet?"
Danzo leaned back in his chair, deep in thought. While Naoya's theory was speculative, it wasn't entirely implausible. Fugaku's recent behavior had indeed been bolder, almost as if he were preparing for sothing.
After a mont, Danzo spoke, his tone neutral. "Very well. I will reconsider the approach. You are dismissed for now, Naoya."
Relieved to have escaped imdiate responsibility, Naoya bowed hastily and left the room. As the door closed behind him, Danzo's expression darkened.
"Uchiha Fugaku... what exactly are you planning?" Danzo muttered to himself, his mind already working through contingencies.
