Bang! Bang!
Giant explosions from released ninjutsu echoed through the forest. Ino, who was searching for the two Akatsuki mbers, sensed the disturbance instantly. She imdiately led her squad toward the source of the noise.
"Is that the enemy's power?" Choji asked, looking toward the distance where dust clouds billowed high into the air.
"It's Teacher Tonbo's squad. Let's move!" Ino sensed Tonbo Tobitake's chakra, and her confidence surged. If Teacher Tonbo was there, even if they couldn't take the enemy down imdiately, they could certainly hold their own.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
"Heh, if Tonbo is there, those Akatsuki guys are in for a rough ti," Yamashiro Aoba remarked, a smile touching his lips as he also sensed the familiar chakra. If there was one person Aoba least wanted to fight, it was definitely Tonbo. His old classmate had a wicked sense of humor in battle.
As they reached the battlefield, they suppressed their auras and crept closer. What greeted their eyes was a man with slicked-back hair wielding a giant scythe like a maniac. This man was swinging his weapon wildly at the Konoha ninjas, appearing to be parrying invisible strikes. anwhile, the three Konoha ninjas were standing at a distance, pelted him with shuriken and kunai until he looked like a pincushion.
Yet, the man didn't seem to notice his injuries at all.
"Hiss... what kind of ability is that? He's full of holes and he's still not dead?" Choji broke into a cold sweat watching Hidan. If he took that many hits, even Ino's dical ninjutsu wouldn't be able to bring him back!
Aoba explained, "That's a mber of the Jashin Cult from the Land of Hot Water. Intelligence recently reported that this cult developed an immortal body. Aside from sealing, as long as they have chakra, they simply won't die."
"There's a cult that powerful?" another ninja exclaid.
"They're tough, but if you sever the head and deprive the body of nutrition, they eventually lose the ability to refine chakra and will die," Aoba added.
"Then what is the other guy doing?" Choji pointed to the figure covered in black threads.
They watched as the man wove hand signs while two masked monster heads on his shoulders spat out three-ter-long streams of lightning, wind, and fire. He seed to be aiming at Teacher Tonbo, who was standing atop a tree playing his flute. The man kept twitching his head, trying to adjust his aim, but his short-range attacks were nowhere near reaching Tonbo.
Ino's lips curled into a smile. "That's Uncle Tonbo's Genjutsu: Visual Range Manipulation, Mass Manipulation, and Morphological Manipulation.
"Visual Range Manipulation creates hallucinations of distance, causing the enemy to misjudge their reach. Mass Manipulation tricks the enemy regarding the quality of their chakra, making them expend massive amounts for tiny results. Morphological Manipulation alters the perceived shape of the jutsu—the enemy sees a normal attack, but in reality, it's warped, too short, or too thin. When all three are combined, it makes the opponent look like... well, like an idiot."
"So, the Akatsuki enemies are being played like fiddles by Teacher Tonbo?" Choji's face was full of shock. Was this the true extent of Tonbo's power? Having experienced a battlefield simulation once before, he knew Tonbo was strong, but to see him toy with enemies that even Chiriku of the Twelve Guardian Shinobi couldn't defeat was sothing else entirely.
Aoba nodded. "Exactly. Tonbo was Acting Hokage for a reason. This technique is disgusting because standard Genjutsu dispelling thods don't work; you need a very specific counter."
Bang!
Before he could finish, a masked monster erged from beneath Tonbo's tree. It suddenly spat a high-pressure jet of blue water. Tonbo, still on the branch, seed oblivious.
"Watch out!" Choji couldn't help but shout.
Swish!
At that exact mont, Tonbo moved. He perford a graceful backflip, dodging the Water Style attack. Even as he descended from the tree, the flute never left his lips. He fell like a leaf but struck like a teor.
Boom!
He delivered a vertical kick straight onto the monster's head. The creature's instincts were sharp; it raised its arms to block. However, the force was so great that the ground beneath it sank half a ter.
"Amazing. To maintain a Genjutsu while executing such high-level Taijutsu," Choji watched with adoration.
"Of course. Teacher Tonbo's chakra control is the best in Konoha. Even Lady Tsunade might not be able to match him," Ino bead.
"Let's move in! It looks like the enemy has found a way to bypass the illusions." Aoba quickly wove hand signs.
"Right!"
"Fire Style: Great Fireball!"
"Human Bullet Tank!"
"Mind Transfer Jutsu!"
"Earth Style: Earth Spikes!"
"Hmph. Quick reactions and strong Taijutsu."
Kakuzu, seeing Tonbo dodge his ambush, stopped playing around. He noticed the Konoha reinforcents. If he didn't wrap this up soon, the number of enemies would only grow. He ignored the attacks from Ino's group; their strikes landed on his hardened skin without doing any real damage, though his clothes were shredded.
Choji was sent flying by a punch of monstrous strength, spinning through the air. Ino's Mind Transfer was violently repelled by the entities within Kakuzu's body, showcasing the ntal fortitude of a ninja who had survived since the era of the First Hokage.
Whoosh!
Kakuzu controlled one masked monster to rush toward Hidan, entangling him with black threads. Chakra that didn't belong to Hidan was continuously pumped into his body, forcibly disrupting Tonbo's Genjutsu flow.
"Genjutsu types are such a pain," Kakuzu muttered. Sacrificing one combat unit just to keep Hidan's senses clear was a testant to how troubleso he found Tonbo. Truly a man the Leader warned them about.
"Eh? Why am I full of shuriken?"
Hidan erged from the illusion only to see himself covered in blades. He looked at the three Konoha ninjas in the distance who were still throwing projectiles. He realized he had been standing there like a moron, imrsed in a dream.
Seeing the black threads, he knew Kakuzu had saved him again, which only made him angrier. He glared at the Konoha ninjas with murderous intent. This ti, it wouldn't be an illusion.
The Konoha ninjas, seeing Kakuzu's maneuver, realized Tonbo's Genjutsu had been neutralized. They retreated a few steps, holding their weapons at the ready. Their job was simply to stall the immortal monster until the Captain and Ino's team finished off the other one.
