“Eh? Wasn’t that the best sushi you’ve ever eaten?” Akane asked, her face lighting up with excitent as they stepped out of the small restaurant.

“Yes, it was,” Kaoru replied with a smile. He was pleasantly surprised that the Terumi clan’s settlent had a restaurant at all. Back in Taki Alley, there was only a communal kitchen that prepared als for the entire clan. Restaurants, entertainnt, or anything resembling leisure didn’t exist there. The Taki clan’s outpost was a strictly practical settlent — survival had always been the priority.

[This must be the benefit of having bigger numbers,] Kaoru thought as he scanned the bustling settlent around him. The Terumi clan had nearly twice the population of Taki and boasted more jonins as well. Still, like the Taki, they lacked any S-rank shinobi.

[If not for Grandma’s abilities, this alliance wouldn’t even be possible,] he mused. Little did Kaoru know, his presence had played the biggest role in securing the alliance. ruem believed Kaoru could grow into an S-rank shinobi, and that made him worth investing in.

“Ru, co on! I want to show you my second favorite place. The moon’s almost high enough—it’s perfect timing,” Akane said with a mischievous grin, grabbing Kaoru’s arm and practically dragging him along.

Within monts, they found themselves squeezing into a narrow tunnel. The entrance was tight, but as they moved further in, the passage widened. Kaoru noticed that the path sloped gently upward, spiraling as it climbed.

[We’re probably heading to the top of the cave,] Kaoru guessed, and he was right.

Eventually, they reached the end of the tunnel and stepped into an open area. The space wasn’t large, but it was big enough to feel comfortable. Dense vines covered the edges of the cliffs around them, but the top and front of the space were open to the night sky. Akane pulled Kaoru forward to the edge of the cliff.

The moon hung high above, bathing the forest below in soft silver light. The vast sea of trees swayed gently in the night breeze, and while the view wasn’t colorful, it exuded a sense of tranquility that made Kaoru’s shoulders relax.

His mind drifted, forgetting the struggles of training and even the danger he’d faced just weeks ago. He stood there in silence, completely absorbed in the mont. Beside him, Akane was lost in thought as well, their earlier chatter replaced by a peaceful quiet.

They both felt isolated from the rest of the world, yet neither felt alone.

After a while, they sat down near the edge, soaking in the serene beauty of the view. Kaoru, curious to see the landscape differently, activated his Suijingan. His irises glowed like radiant cyan gems, the brightness enhanced by the moonlit surroundings.

As he gazed out, the world transford. Streams of water glowed faintly, adding an ethereal blue hue to the already tranquil scene. Kaoru’s breath caught as he marveled at the sight, fully imrsed in the beauty before him.

But the strain on his chakra reserves quickly built, and he was forced to deactivate the Suijingan, his vision returning to normal.

“Ru… your eyes,” Akane whispered, her jaw slightly agape.

Kaoru gave a small smile. “It’s my Kekkei Genkai,” he explained. “It lets manipulate water and see water flow, but it burns through chakra way too fast.” His smile turned bitter as he added, “That’s the trade-off.”

Akane chuckled softly, though there was a tinge of sadness in her expression. “It seems like everyone around has a Kekkei Genkai.”

Her attempt to sound casual fell flat, and Kaoru could sense the bitterness she was trying to mask.

[i has two Kekkei Genkai, and she has none. She probably feels like a failure,] Kaoru realized, watching her carefully.

He felt an unexpected connection to Akane after the day they’d spent together. It was the first normal day he’d had in a long ti—one where he didn’t feel like his only companions were Maki and Suiren. He had the urge to cheer her up.

[This should help, and besides, it belonged to their clan to begin with,] he thought.

“Akane,” Kaoru said, his voice light, “would you like to train with ? I think I have a scroll that will impress you.”

Akane’s face lit up, and she imdiately agreed. “I’d love to!”

Kaoru grinned. “Good. et at my house tomorrow morning—before sunrise. Don't be late, Akane”

He stood up, offering her a hand. Akane hesitated briefly before taking it, allowing him to help her up.

“Alright, I’ll be there,” she said with a bright smile. Then, after a pause, she added shyly, “Oh, and Ru… you can call ‘Ane’ if you’d like. Since I use your pet na, I figured…”

“I’d love to,” Kaoru interrupted with a smile, not missing a beat.

They exchanged a quick glance, both smiling, before squeezing back into the narrow tunnel to return ho. The tranquil night behind them had set the foundation for sothing deeper—a bond that neither of them had quite expected.

Kaoru spotted Akane approaching, this ti dressed in practical training clothes.

“Morning, Ane. Let’s head to the training ground,” Kaoru greeted her with a smile.

“Morning, Ru,” Akane replied, smiling back as she gestured for him to follow.

The two made their way to the nearest training ground, a simple open yard surrounded by tall trees. Standing in the middle of the space, Kaoru turned to face Akane.

“I’ve started working on a new body exercise,” Kaoru began, his tone was laced with excitent. “It’s way more effective than regular training, or at least it should be if we can figure it out.”

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

He went on to explain everything he’d learned so far, detailing the scroll’s contents and his understanding of its techniques. He also ntioned that the scroll had co from the Terumi clan’s library, which seed to pique Akane’s curiosity even more.

Akane nodded, staying silent as she listened. She was clearly waiting for Kaoru to demonstrate.

“For the warm-up, we’ll start with a hundred squats and pushups, followed by a short run,” Kaoru said, already crouching to begin his squats. “Then we’ll move on to the Shifting Flow Sword body exercises (** A/N - I'll call it SFS sotis ** ).”

The warm-up took about forty minutes. By the ti they finished, both of them were sweating lightly but still full of energy.

Kaoru stretched out his arm, preparing to demonstrate what he’d figured out so far.

“So, the key to this exercise is learning to rotate chakra within your body,” he began. “The goal is to keep the chakra circulating through your cells, strengthening them without actually losing chakra. It’s not about brute force — it’s about control and precision.”

He paused, flexing his fingers as a faint glow of chakra flickered in his palm.

“I’ve learned that if you try to force the chakra, it just spills out. You have to think of it as guiding the flow, not pushing it. It’s like creating a loop that never breaks — steady, contained, and efficient.”

Kaoru looked up at Akane, who was watching intently. “I haven’t figured out the full thod yet, but I’m sure that once we master this, our combat ability will skyrocket.”

His enthusiasm was contagious, and Akane’s eyes sparkled with excitent as she nodded.

“Let’s give it everything we’ve got,” she said eagerly.

After about three hours of trying to rotate their chakra, both Kaoru and Akane were visibly exhausted. Akane eventually sat down on the ground, her brows furrowed in deep thought. For a while, she stayed silent, her mind clearly working through sothing.

Then, suddenly, her eyes lit up with realization.

“Ru,” she began as excitent started overflowing her, “why do you think the scroll tells us to rotate our chakra around a hand first? Wouldn’t it make more sense to guide the flow through the whole body? And another thing—why was this technique shelved in my clan’s library if the results are supposed to be so amazing?”

Kaoru tilted his head, considering her questions. “I guess it starts with the hand because a smaller part is easier to focus on?” he suggested. “And as for the scroll… maybe it was neglected because it’s just too hard to master? Over ti, people probably forgot it even existed.”

Akane shook her head, her expression bright with excitent. “Wrong and wrong,” she said, leaning forward. “I think it starts with the hand because once you manage to guide chakra through every single cell, even in just one hand, the chakra consumption will be massive. Too massive to sustain. That’s why it doesn’t start with the whole body—it would be impossible to control.”

Kaoru’s brow furrowed as he listened. Akane continued.

“And as for why my clan couldn’t master it—it’s not just about controlling chakra. You’re not just following your chakra flow or steadying it. You have to create new paths for your chakra to travel through. You’re building a network that doesn’t exist yet, and it has to reach every single cell. Adults couldn’t do that because their bodies are already developed. The chakra paths in their bodies are set, and even if they tried, they couldn’t force their cells to adapt. That’s why this scroll was forgotten.”

Kaoru blinked, his mind racing to keep up. “Okay, but if the chakra consumption is huge now, what changes later? That doesn’t make sense…”

He trailed off, his eyes widening as realization hit him like a bolt of lightning.

“Unless…” Kaoru’s voice dropped, his words coming faster now. “Unless the chakra rotation activates the cells’ full potential as you go. Once your cells reach that state, maintaining it wouldn’t take as much chakra. Eventually, the consumption might even drop to zero because your body adapts. That would explain why we’re told to take it slow—and why this technique can only be mastered while we’re young.”

Akane grinned, clearly pleased. “Exactly! It’s not just about rotation. It’s about reshaping your body, little by little, while it’s still growing. You’re training your cells to hold onto that state so the chakra rotation becos second nature, like breathing. That’s why the scroll emphasizes patience.”

Kaoru let the idea sink in, feeling both exhilarated and overwheld. “So… we’re literally rebuilding how our bodies work,” he murmured.

Akane nodded, her enthusiasm infectious. “Exactly! And if we get it right, it’ll change everything about how we fight.”

Kaoru smiled, his earlier exhaustion montarily forgotten. “Alright then. Let’s get back to work. If we’re going to rebuild our bodies, we’d better get started.”

With their new discovery fresh in their minds, Kaoru and Akane pushed their bodies to the limit. They focused intently, determined to create even a single chakra path. Unfortunately, their efforts didn’t bear fruit, not a single path was ford.

Still, the progress they made was remarkable. They both gained a deeper understanding of how chakra moved through their bodies, and their control had improved noticeably.

For Kaoru, this training session brought another unexpected surprise. For the first ti, he had soone to directly compare his chakra reserves with — and Akane’s chakra core was about twice the size of his.

At first, the disparity surprised him, but Kaoru wasn’t discouraged. In fact, it only motivated him. He knew that his chakra core was growing rapidly. In about a year, he estimated, his reserves would double in size, matching where Akane’s were now at ten years old.

[Considering that Taki clan mbers are born with pitiful chakra reserves compared to most shinobi, this growth is insane,] he thought with satisfaction. It was a pleasant surprise — one that bolstered his confidence in his future potential.

By the ti they wrapped up their training, the sun was dipping below the horizon, and the sky was painted in hues of orange and purple.

“It’s already dinner ti,” Akane said, stretching her arms with a yawn.

Kaoru nodded. “Yeah, I still need to train my Suijingan tonight, so we’ll call it a day here. Let’s et tomorrow morning, sa spot.”

“Deal,” Akane agreed with a smile.

The two parted ways, heading to their respective hos.

On his way back, Kaoru decided to stop by the sushi restaurant for takeout. The familiar sll of fresh fish and rice greeted him as he picked up his al and headed ho.

As soon as he got back, Kaoru sat down to eat, savoring the sushi in silence. The day’s progress and discoveries replayed in his mind, filling him with a sense of satisfaction.

Once he finished eating, he cleared the table and set up for his Suijingan training. Sitting cross-legged on the floor, a cup filled with water placed in front of him, Kaoru took a deep breath.

“Ti to see how far I can push myself tonight,” said Kaoru with a bright smile.

A/N -

If you are enjoying the novel please give it a review, it will help a lot.

I forgot to ntion in previous chapter notes but - Azure Awakening has reached 50k words ^_^

I’ve been thinking, and I’ve decided that it's ti for Kaoru to develop actual bonds with characters around his age. I don’t want him to co across as a psycho who only finds joy in training and fighting. I’d rather build him as a real, relatable human being — soone with priorities, struggles, and aningful relationships.

As for Akane, I haven’t decided yet if she’ll stay as a side character or join the main cast, but for now, she’ll definitely play an important role in this arc.

Character Notes:

Kaoru – Overthinking Prodigy -"Training? Check. Scrolls? Check. Friends? …Ugh, working on it."

Akane – Friendly Firecracker -"I’m not antisocial! I just think most people are overrated… except Ru, I guess."
