628: Chapter 261: On Beauty, You Can’t Beat _3 628: Chapter 261: On Beauty, You Can’t Beat _3 As she spoke, she uttered the sa phrases as Chris, lanting how the Moonlight Church had been there first, how they were supposed to be allies, yet they pushed it too far, the air thick with the scent of lemons and the resentnt of being backstabbed by an ally.

Wayne dismissed his Knight’s Armor, whispering reassurances to Philona, “Look on the bright side, you’ve tad a future Naturalist Knight; isn’t that a victory for the Moonlight Church in its own way?”

“Nonsense, it’s clearly the High Priest of the Moonlight Church who’s been humiliated by the Naturalist Knight, a crushing defeat!” Philona, full of resentnt, grasped Wayne’s collar and left the Dark Domain.

In the bedroom, she pushed Wayne onto the bed in a fit of indignation and began to unrobe.

Today, she was going to take revenge on behalf of the Goddess, to claim a grand victory for the Moonlight Church and send the chosen of nature staggering out the door.

Philona overestimated herself and underestimated Wayne.

After a few bouts, the representative of the Moonlight Church was overwheld, begging for rcy, yet she passed out regardless.

There is a certain difference in won who have been nourished by love, like Philona, who beca more beautiful, her eyes sparkling and her charm more radiant.

Her entire aura seed to have transcended, an elegance and grace that surpassed her past self.

This flower, nourished by the rain and dew, blood in full.

The next day, the twins tasked with guarding the door looked forlorn.

They had failed in their duties, unable to protect the High Priest, and suffered the ignominy of a stealth attack from the Naturalism Church/Magic Departnt.

One could tell from Philona’s transformation that the intimacy of the previous night was on a whole different level.

The stakes had raised!

And Philona didn’t hide it, acting all sickly and fragile, speaking in a gentle, quiet voice, lacking even the strength to lift a hand to eat as if all the bones in her body had beco disjointed.

Of course, that was impossible; Philona did this deliberately, almost wishing everyone knew that her love story had co full circle, crossing off the last regret on her list before turning thirty.

To beco a Legendary Mage, one needed at least a trace of madness, and Philona was no exception.

Had Wayne not stopped her, she would have dared to publicize her and Wayne’s couple photos in the newspaper.

“Don’t do that, after all, I am a public figure, an idol, understand?

If my fans find out I have a girlfriend, I won’t get any more acting gigs,” he pleaded.

“Aren’t you a capitalist?” she retorted.

“Even capitalists have to follow market rules!”

Philona huffed, unable to spread the word widely left her considerably dissatisfied, but she was in such a good mood, seeing everything through the rosy tint of love, that she quickly let it slide to the back of her mind.

The weight on the High Priest’s shoulders was heavy; she could take a three-day holiday to be with her young boyfriend, but she couldn’t be on holiday forever.

Reminded by the twins of her duty, she rembered she was in Lundan to expand the Church’s influence, not for a romantic getaway.

No matter, work by day, romance by night!

Lately, Wayne’s ti managent had gone a bit haywire, and Philark, at his wit’s end, suggested he move into the Detective Agency for work reasons.

And to recuperate a bit.

————

Comrcial Street, Wayne Detective Agency.

Wayne spent half the day shopping and watching movies with his secretary; the other half was devoted to catching up on his backlog of work.

In the evening, he still had a date with his secretary.

He always played fair, never using the excuse of “no ti.”

Good n know ti can always be squeezed, it’s the irresponsible jerks who constantly use busyness as an excuse.

In this half-day of work, he had to keep his diary updated;

The intelligence on Little Mustache and Sora needed continuation; an elite agent skiving off for three months had severely damaged his reputation with Frank, so he needed so juicy bits to restore the trust;

Austin had selected so patients from the Asylum, trading them with Plank privately, transferring them to his own secret base, ready for Wayne’s thorough research;

Several library locations had also been proposed, with thick folders arriving, and Wayne needed to finalize the decisions quickly.

“Thank goodness my na is Wayne, I get a buff to my capabilities, I don’t need much sleep, or with tasks up to my ears, I still wouldn’t manage…”

Wayne grumbled to himself, anwhile affectionately patting Mona’s head.

At critical monts, the secretary was indispensable, sharing a significant portion of his workload.

“Mona, you handle the library location planning.

Choose a remote spot, away from the comrcial district.

It shouldn’t be too close to my house, but also not too far…”

“The intelligence work will be your responsibility from now on, just say it’s an underling I’ve developed…”

“…”

“Mona, say sothing!”

It took Mona a while to speak.

Standing up, she said, “Boss, there’s another docunt you haven’t looked at yet.”

“I don’t want to see…”

Wayne glanced at the docunt at the corner of the desk, a commission from Princess Knight Juno paying a sizable deposit, specifying that he investigate a case.

The location wasn’t in Lundan, extrely remote; Mona had to purchase a map just to find the destination.

“Boss, Juno has been frequenting the Detective Agency lately.

She seems very interested in you, always finding ways to inquire about your information,” Mona analyzed.

“Juno is Princess Elizabeth’s knight; it must be the Princess who’s taken interest in you.”

Similar investigation commissions had been previously arranged by the Holy See to lay out plans in secluded places with few people, to unveil Wayne’s true identity.

The Holy See suspected Wayne might be an angel; they couldn’t announce it or ask directly, so they secretly manipulated to find out.

The reason why the Princess would do this, Mona couldn’t quite fathom at the mont.

There were many possibilities: the Princess admired Wayne’s talent and wanted to recruit him; the Princess needed the financial power of the Lando Family to lay early groundwork, garnering the future head of the Lando House’s loyalty; or the Princess took a liking to Wayne, cheating behind her fiancé.

The second possibility was the least likely, as it was the Queen’s era now, and the Princess would have to restrain any ambitions.

The third was purely Mona’s subjective emotions at play.

Thinking Wayne was outstanding, she felt it was normal for everyone to think so, including the Princess having ideas about him.

“Eliminate the two correct answers, and the wrong one becos the right one.

That’s how great detectives do it.”

Wayne frowned at the investigation commission: “Reject it, I don’t want to get too close to the Princess.

I am only loyal to the Queen, and will only obey her commands when she becos Queen.”

Wayne compared himself to Austin, picturing how Austin would have treated the Queen, deciding that’s how he would treat the Princess.

The ready-made answer couldn’t be wrong if copied.

“No, that’s not right.

Austin was the Queen’s first love; he got it all, I can’t copy everything.”

Inspired, Wayne reopened his notebook; a kind young man’s father had an affair with his superior, fathering a sister for the young man’s fiancée.

He would write about this in the coming days.

“Mona, has Lundan been peaceful recently?

Any new devils showing up?”

“The Cathedral has not noticed anything unusual; it should be nothing to worry about,” Mona reported, naturally taking a seat on her boss’s lap as his secretary.

“No news is the biggest news.

Have Gunther be careful.

With three familiars gone, the devil surely won’t let things rest.”

“Your command will be vigilantly followed.”

On the outskirts of Lundan City.

The dark portal opened, a figure in a black robe slowly descending to the ground.

“Just three knights can’t hold the Icebound Continent.”

“Twilight Deadlock…”

“The Goddess needs you!!”
