Chapter 1177: Chapter 406 I Want It All

Who am I, where do I co from, where am I going?

What is the aning of life, what is the essence of life, and why must people live?

Sang Lan sat up in confusion, her mind a blank slate, looking at the joyous Wayne, curious about who this person is and why there’s an intensely morable sensation.

Family or foe?

With a sudden jolt in her heart, Sang Lan started to breathe violently, like a fish struggling for air successfully reaching the shore, gasping for breath heavily.

As her breathing grew frantic, a flood of mories surged into her blank mind, her rigid thoughts lding into her flesh, the complete Golden Triangle approaching a stable equilibrium.

She had co back to life!

“Thank goodness, High Priest Sang Lan, you’ve finally co back to life.”

Wayne excitedly grabbed her hand: “Do you rember? I’m Wayne, the Divine Oracle High Priest of the Church headquarters. I received your distress signal, detected the trace of the Devil in the Paris District, rushed here imdiately, drove the Devil away and rescued you, I am your lifesaver!”

“…”

“High Priest, speak!”

“I have never seen soone as shaless as you.”

Sang Lan forcefully withdrew her hand and staggered to her feet, aware that she was within Wayne’s Life Force Field, fearing he might silence her permanently; any curses she had ready were forcibly swallowed.

At her peak, she was no match for Wayne, let alone now with her flesh barely healed and her mind weak, trapped in enemy territory where screaming was futile; Wayne could easily pin her death on her betrayal to the service of a Devil’s minion and she would die with her na cursed.

“High Priest, speak!!”

“Thank you for saving my life; you have worked hard in driving away the Devil.” Sang Lan said dryly.

That’s more like it, at least you know what’s good for you.

Now that she was saved, Wayne was no longer anxious; he waved his hand and dissolved the Life Force Field, slumping into the office chair.

Returning to the familiar High Priest’s Office, Sang Lan let her guard down. Although still helpless, at least soone would hear her scream; with the Followers rushing to her side, Wayne would hardly dare to kill them all.

Having narrowly escaped a fatal blow, Sang Lan now looked at Wayne without the initial contempt.

This pretty boy wasn’t just a product of resources nor rely a favorite under Pontiff Saina’s skirts; he had climbed his way up through sheer power, ranking among the strongest within the Church headquarters.

A chill ran down Sang Lan’s neck, her heart still pounding with fear—she had almost truly died.

Judging by appearances is deadly; hearsay is untrustworthy.

She now wanted to ask, who is the bastard spreading gossip that the pretty boy is Saina’s gigolo, ascending the ranks through sexual favors?

“High Priest, I’ve checked; you are not a minion to the Devil, there are no traces of thoughts controlled by the Devil, but I can’t rule out the possibility that you’ve willingly turned to the Devil and want to descend into Hell.”

Wayne, legs crossed on the desk: “Don’t be too cheerful, your suspicions have not yet been cleared; I could finish you off at any mont.”

Sang Lan’s face soured, and she replied obediently: “Divine Oracle High Priest, if you have any questions, I will answer them all.”

“Speaking up like this from the start would have been much better, avoiding the need for a beating to get honest.”

“…”

“Oh, there was no beating; I only threw a single punch, and you went down.”

“Divine Oracle High Priest, will you ask your questions or not?”

Sang Lan cursed inwardly for pushing his luck; if it weren’t for her inability to fight him, she would definitely have turned against Wayne today.

“What, I can’t say a few words after saving your life? You haven’t even paid for the dical expenses!”

Wayne snorted twice, seeing Sang Lan’s frustrated face, wanting to burst yet lacking the courage, he finally nodded in satisfaction: “Speak up, what really happened? When did you start following Pontiff Saina, and who was the contact person for the ssages?”

“I’ve been following Lord Saina for quite a long ti, ostensibly serving Pope Ludwig, actually…”

Sang Lan was indeed one of her own.

When Saina was still the Divine Oracle High Priest, predicting Ludwig’s eventual departure, she used the decision of allegiance as an excuse to co-opt Sang Lan as her partisan.

Outwardly, Sang Lan served Ludwig; secretly, she supported Saina to beco the next Pope.

Wayne, having accessed Saina’s mories, was uninterested in the riffraff information about Insectoids and subconsciously ignored these interpersonal connections, thereby oblivious to who Sang Lan was.

From Sang Lan’s perspective, Wayne was just a fresh face propped up by Saina, the kind without the sense of standing behind soone’s power; hence, she only told half the story, showing disdain for this newly promoted Divine Oracle High Priest.

Eat the soft food if you’re going to; so things aren’t for you to know!

“This story teaches us, the Riddler deserves a beating.” Wayne summarized.

Sang Lan’s white robes stained with blood, likely accompanied by chunks of brain matter, fuming but unable to vocalize her anger, continued: “Pigeons were used to contact the two High Priests of the Life Alliance. We’ve discovered that The Black Principle Cult is backed by the Devil, and Archbishop Dio of Saint Sylvestre Church is very likely to have turned to the Devil, stealthily orchestrating a plot to weaken the Holy See’s influence in Frank, so our three parties could divide the benefits…”

“Lady Saina is aware of this as well.”

“Saina knows?”

Wayne raised an eyebrow; Saina knew yet didn’t inform him, perhaps she’s getting above herself?

Ever since obtaining the Elental Mantra and learning of her identity as a Naturalist Knight from the Inverted World, Saina’s audacity grew… no, it’s more accurate to say she reverted to her true nature.

After all, she is a bad woman, belonging to the hardcore faction of radicals within extremists, wishing she could ride over everyone’s heads and be the Queen.

Wayne knew very well that Saina reverting to her nature had sothing to do with him; he had asked her to do so. And because of his indulgence, her actions beca more and more presumptuous, considering no one but him worthy.
