That evening, Dylan drove his motorcycle back to his grandfather’s house in the next city. His goal was to "attend" Vincent’s funeral secretly at the funeral ho.
"KATS, are you sure the gem will be buried with Vincent?" Dylan asked.
[I am certain, sir. The gem is in his coffin. CROWS won’t swallow an incomplete gem out of principle, so we can retrieve it from there before the coffin is cremated.]
"Okay, I hope you’re right," Dylan replied.
Dylan kept pushing his motorcycle at high speed without stopping. In just one hour, he had returned to the city where his grandfather’s house was located. He imdiately steered his motorcycle toward the funeral ho where Vincent was laid out. When he arrived, he went straight inside with Paul, who transford into his demon robot form and used his vanish skill to slip past the sole guard posted there. Dylan then entered the embalming room, where Vincent, already in his coffin, was located according to the map’s directions.
Once inside, Paul imdiately guarded the door while Dylan approached the only coffin in the room, which was placed next to a preparation table used for dressing the body. Dylan looked inside the coffin. He saw the once-powerful Vincent lying stiffly inside the coffin, already dressed in his best clothes because he was going to be cremated the following day after a funeral ceremony attended by his family.
"So you finally died, huh? I didn’t even have to bother killing you. My parents and grandfather will welco you there... oh wait, you won’t et them because you’re going straight into the abyss of hell," Dylan muttered, staring at Vincent’s face, which looked calm but also seed preoccupied, like there was sothing he hadn’t achieved in his life.
After that, Dylan imdiately searched the coffin for the gem, but he didn’t find anything near Vincent’s body.
"Huh... it’s not here," Dylan muttered after searching the entire coffin.
[Open his mouth, sir.]
"Huh... his mouth?" Dylan asked, turning to look at Vincent’s face.
[The gem is inside it.]
"Ugh... I really don’t want to open a corpse’s mouth, especially this guy’s corpse," Dylan complained.
Dylan walked over to Paul, then imdiately whispered to him, and Paul turned to look at the coffin.
"You an, you want to open his mouth and retrieve the gem from inside it?" Paul asked.
"Yeah, please," Dylan replied.
"Alright, wait here," Paul replied.
Without delay, Paul imdiately approached the only coffin in the room. Without hesitation, he used his hand to pry open the mouth, then dug sothing out from inside. Dylan, watching him, swallowed hard because Paul seed completely unfazed, even putting his entire hand inside now. After a few minutes, Paul finally pulled a gemstone out of Vincent’s mouth. Dylan approached Paul and looked at Vincent’s corpse. Dylan was shocked to see Vincent’s jaw wide open all the way down, and Paul was forcefully trying to close it.
"Crack," Vincent’s mouth finally closed, though it was slightly crooked, making him look like soone who had suffered a stroke, which gave Dylan a slight chill. Paul walked to a table and grabbed a cloth to wipe the gem and his hand, then he tossed the gem to Dylan, who caught it imdiately. Dylan looked at the spherical gem, which was the size of a golf ball, and lifted it towards the light to examine it.
"Okay, this is the biggest fragnt of all the pieces I’ve gotten so far," Dylan muttered in his head.
[That’s absolutely right, sir.]
"Let’s go, we don’t need to be here anymore," Dylan said to Paul.
"Good, let’s go ho... but before that, can I ask you for sothing?" Paul asked.
"Um... what?" Dylan asked.
"Can we make a quick detour to my house? I want to see my house," Paul replied.
"Fine, let’s get out of here first," Dylan replied.
"Thank you, Dylan," Paul replied.
Dylan and Paul then left the embalming room and headed out of the funeral ho building. After that, they imdiately went to the housing complex on the edge of the city where Paul’s forr house was located. Dylan observed the neighborhood Paul used to live in—it turned out Paul’s area was close to where Lena’s grandmother’s house was.
Once they reached Paul’s house, Dylan stopped his motorcycle and dismounted in front of the house. He could see two cars in the carport, and he recognized one of them because Derek often used it for school. Dylan turned to look at Paul, who had shifted out of the motorcycle into his ghost form and was staring sadly at his house.
"Let’s go inside, Paul," Dylan invited.
"Can we?" Paul asked, imdiately turning to look at Dylan with watery eyes.
"Of course. Co on," Dylan replied.
Dylan walked up to the porch, remaining invisible with Paul floating next to him. When they reached the front door, Dylan noticed a security cara in the ceiling corner. He asked Paul for permission to disable it, Paul nodded, and Dylan imdiately used his defuse skill.
Then Dylan opened the door using his pick lock skill and stepped inside. Entering the living room, Dylan saw a wedding photo hanging permanently on the wall. On a shelf, there were many photos of Paul, his wife Rosa, Derek, and a girl Dylan didn’t recognize—she seed to be Derek’s younger sister.
Then Dylan turned to see Paul looking up the stairs. Dylan walked to the stairs, went up, and imdiately walked down the hall, opening the first bedroom. He saw a girl sleeping inside. Paul imdiately floated toward the bed, then sat on the edge.
His hand tried to caress the girl’s head, but his hand passed right through her. Dylan saw Paul’s face, which truly looked like a father who deeply loved his child. After Paul was satisfied with spending ti with his daughter, he stood up and left the room.
After that, they went into Derek’s room. Paul sat on the side of Derek’s bed while Dylan looked around Derek’s room, which was covered in sports and gaming posters on the walls, a gaming computer setup, and a study desk.
"He likes gaming, apparently, just like Aaron," Dylan thought to himself, glancing at Derek on the bed and smiling.
Then, after Paul was finished, they went to the master bedroom, which was at the end of the hall. Dylan opened it and went inside. He turned to look at Paul’s face, which looked truly sad. He saw the dentist Rosa sleeping alone on the bed, facing the empty side of the bed. Dylan saw Paul standing next to her, motionless.
"What’s wrong?" Dylan asked.
"In the 25 years we’ve been married, we were never apart, and seeing her sleep alone like that... I just can’t bear it," Paul muttered.
Dylan could see Paul shedding a tear. He then turned and held the door, ready to leave, but before he stepped out, he managed to turn back and look at Paul, who was floating motionless beside him, still gazing at his sleeping wife from the doorway.
"Paul, please take your ti here. I’ll wait outside," Dylan said.
"Thank you, Dylan," Paul replied without turning around at all.
Dylan stepped out of the room and closed the door again. He then leaned against the door, waiting for Paul inside. Dylan understood what Paul was feeling. Of course, Paul wanted a private mont with his partner, who had spent 25 years of her life with him until he had to leave her first. Then the faces of Ellie, Maya, Lena, and Amy flashed interchangeably in his mind. Dylan rubbed his temples and closed his eyes for a mont, a wave of thoughts about his four wives and his siblings washing over him.
[Relax, sir, you have .]
"Grr... don’t read my mind without asking first," Dylan said, startled.
[You don’t need to think about leaving the world, leaving your four wives and your siblings alone. I won’t let that happen.]
"Yeah, yeah, why are you reading all my thoughts? You’re seriously the worst, truly intrusive and a mood killer," Dylan said.
[Please don’t think negative thoughts, sir. Your four wives and your siblings will be safe.]
"Yeah, yeah, sorry. Let’s not talk about it anymore. I don’t want to think like that again," Dylan replied, annoyed.
[Good for you, sir.]
After a long wait, Paul finally ca out of the room. Then they quickly left Paul and Rosa’s house. Before getting on the motorcycle, Paul turned to face Dylan.
"Since I died, I haven’t been able to see my family again. Now that I’ve seen them, I feel renewed energy. Thank you, Dylan, you truly helped ," Paul said, smiling.
"You’re welco, Paul. Shall we go ho now?" Dylan asked.
"Yes, let’s go ho now," Paul replied.
Paul got into the motorcycle, and the engine imdiately started. Then Dylan mounted the motorcycle and drove out of the housing complex, taking a brief detour through the shopping area to look at the house of Elenor, Lena’s grandmother, which now had a "for sale" sign. After that, they left to go ho.
