Chapter 7: Fallen Demons
As the man-eating ghoul lunged forward, it whipped up a whistling gust of wind.
Demons attacking their own kind or humans was not uncommon.
This stemd from the innate demonic instincts within their bodies. Most demons could control their desires, redirecting their focus elsewhere, but so, unable to resist the temptation of their instincts, ultimately succumbed to uncontrollable urges.
Such demons were officially classified as Fallen Demons.
Much like murderers among humans.
“Boom—!”
With a sharp sound, in the narrow alley, Luo Yun sidestepped, effortlessly dodging the incoming tail kagune*.
At the sa ti, a chilling sensation crept up the ghoul’s spine and nerves.
So liquid splashed onto its back, quickly soaking its clothes, and a sense of weakness spread through its body.
Thud—!
The ghoul, hurtling at high speed, crashed heavily to the ground, sliding several tres. Its kagune, like a python with severed nerves, lay limply on the ground.
“Wha… what’s happening? I… I can’t move.”
The ghoul struggled to rise, but no matter how hard it tried, only the organs in its head remained functional.
Its scarlet eyes strained to glance backward, only to see the boy in a high school uniform holding a steel sabre about a tre long.
A re blade could slice through a ghoul’s body and sever its spinal nerves?
Don’t be ridiculous!
With its kagune, its physical strength was impervious even to small firearms—how could a re blade manage that?
“Though my power is weak for now, underestimating it will make you suffer.”
As if drawn by so magnetic force, the sabre in Luo Yun’s left hand automatically shifted to his right.
In that fleeting mont of clash, Luo Yun had already destroyed its nerves and kagune sac*. It could still speak, but only because of the ghoul’s tenacious vitality holding it together.
It wouldn’t live much longer.
If Kasumigaoka Shiyu weren’t nearby, that blade would have already severed its head.
The power of Myriad Forms, the force of all things flowing.
The strength bestowed by the universe itself was far beyond what a re ghoul could match.
Luo Yun’s gaze shifted to the other ghoul blocking the rear.
Its kagune was a feather kagune*, resembling a butterfly’s wing with one side missing, burning like flas.
Seeing its companion so easily defeated, this ghoul’s eyes regained a sliver of sanity, though it remained a monster.
Years ago, Luo Yun, who had always followed Nangong Nayue, a senior Demon Hunter due to her profession as a loli older sister, had an extraordinary understanding of demonic cris.
Far from the peaceful facade, in the darkness unseen by civilians, countless heinous cris still occurred.
Those reported were rely the ones too large to be concealed or unwitnessed by the masses.
“Surrender. A ghoul’s malicious attacks on others offer no chance for redemption.”
Luo Yun pointed his sabre at the ghoul and said.
“Damn it! You’re just re human food! As ghouls, we’re ant to feast on delicious human flesh—you exist only as our livestock!”
The tail kagune ghoul roared hysterically.
Its last shred of rationality was finally consud by madness and bloodlust.
The next mont, before Luo Yun could respond, the ghoul leapt into the air. Thinking it might flee, Luo Yun watched as it instead swung its deep purple tail kagune mid-air.
“Buzz—!”
Suddenly, like a torrential rain from the sky, countless tiny kagune fragnts, moving at a speed imperceptible to the human eye, shot forth like bullets, transforming into streaks of purple shadows charging straight at Luo Yun and the girl.
Kasumigaoka Shiyu, terrified once more, covered her eyes, nearly burrowing into Luo Yun’s arms.
Yet he stood motionless. At the last mont before the tail kagune struck, several sabres spinning rapidly in front of Luo Yun collided with it.
In an instant, sparks flew, and the clang of tal echoed, like the sound of swords clashing.
Clang—!
Countless shards of stone and the now-powerless tail kagune fluttered past Luo Yun like weightless paper.
“It seems you still haven’t grasped the situation. Let show you the power of Myriad Forms.”
Luo Yun spoke calmly. As he slightly raised his left hand, particles converged into starlight, materialising into an ancient-looking submachine gun.
Any military enthusiast would recognise it as the fad PPSh-41 from submachine gun from history.
Never mind how it appeared—the ghoul thought Luo Yun would use it against him.
“As the first test subject, I hope you last a little longer.”
Luo Yun rested the sabre on the PPSh-41’s handle, resembling a violinist in a grand cathedral.
What was he doing?
That was the ghoul’s final thought.
Then, Luo Yun gently pulled, and a piercing sonic wave rippled through the air.
Without a chance to react, the ghoul’s body, touched by the expanding sound, disintegrated like sand scattered by a storm.
In the end, only half of its broken body slamd heavily onto the concrete.
