Liang Chen handed over his car keys to Nanny Lin, sidestepped her question, and asked, “Where’s Haohao?”
“Miss Jing is in the back bushes, playing by herself quite happily. She doesn’t seem troubled at all.”
Liang Chen ignored Nanny Lin and headed straight for the back of the villa.
Jing Haohao was holding a stone, lost in her own thoughts. Suddenly, hearing footsteps, she lifted her head to see Liang Chen walking briskly towards her. She quickly slipped the stone from her hand into her coat pocket with a panic-stricken look, collected her thoughts, and waited calmly as he approached.
“What are you doing here alone?” Liang Chen looked around. The vast lawn was empty. He couldn’t help asking softly.
“There was a bunny here just now.” Jing Haohao finished, and looked at Liang Chen curiously, “Are you here to pick up so files?”
“Mhm,” Liang Chen thought to himself, it’s because I was worried about you that I returned so early.
However, he had never been so apprehensive in his life for a woman. So, with a slightly embarrassed expression, he cleared his throat and said, “There wasn’t much to do in the company, so I left early.”
Jing Haohao gave Liang Chen a strange look. He’d just said that morning that the company was very busy recently. Why was he now saying there was nothing to do?
Seeing Jing Haohao’s gaze, Liang Chen felt guilty, as if his reason for returning was already seen through by her. So he quickly changed the subject, “I bumped into Nanny Lin when I got back. She said she was preparing dinner. Let’s go see what’s for dinner.”
They didn’t usually have to check for al preparations. With Nanny Lin and a professional nutritionist, they could have variety for a month without ever having to repeat a dish.
Jing Haohao looked at Liang Chen. Was he trying to change the subject?
Unsure of what Jing Haohao was thinking, and whether or not she had seen through his reason for coming ho early, Liang Chen pretended to be calm and asked, “What’s up?”
Jing Haohao didn’t expose Liang Chen. She just shook her head and said, “Nothing, let’s go.”
Only then did Liang Chen feel relieved as he led Jing Haohao into the house.
As Jing Haohao followed beside Liang Chen, she covertly peeked up at him, and to her surprise, she saw him exhaling a sigh of relief as if he was grateful for sothing.
