Jing Haohao chuckled but said nothing. As she walked into the complex, the doorman peeked out and asked in a strange tone, “Why didn’t I see your boyfriend’s car dropping you off today?”
Jing Haohao knitted her eyebrows and glanced at the doorman. She had been separated from Liang Chen for quite so ti, and he had never driven her ho since then. “You must have mistaken
for soone else,” she said.
“How could I possibly get it wrong? I’m at this gate every day.” The doorman grinned at Jing Haohao, “You usually co back after eleven at night, later than most in this complex, so I’m well acquainted with you. Every day I see that Audi waiting across the street to drop you off.”
The Audi that dropped her off… the only one Jing Haohao could think of was Liang Chen’s car.
Unaware of Jing Haohao’s hesitation, the doorman continued, “Your boyfriend is really good to you. He drops you off every night, and sotis, he would stay parked here all night. Just the night before last, his car was here until after three in the morning. Around New Year’s, he practically stayed here every night. I rember him distinctly, he’s handso and occasionally drives different cars.”
Jing Haohao’s face hardened gradually. Bitterly, she squeezed out a smile at the doorman before heading to her apartnt building.
It was only when she got ho that the shock of the doorman’s words fully registered, leaving her heart in the resulting aftershock.
Hadn’t they broken up by that ti?
He had never reached out to her, nor had she seen him. They seed to exist in two different worlds, she thought any ties between them had severed completely.
But now, she realized that throughout their separation, he had never truly left her.
Jing Haohao’s heart began to pound irregularly.
Jing Haohao couldn’t recall how she had packed her clothes or changed out of what she was wearing. Her thoughts were wholly consud by visions of Liang Chen alone, from winter to spring, sitting alone in his car in the dead of night.
He had said he would never encroach upon her world again. But while he vowed not to disturb her, he had been quietly safeguarding her all along.
With a faraway look, Jing Haohao erged from her room with her packed items, and then took a bus to a breakfast diner downtown to buy breakfast for Cong Rong.

The diner was on Suzhou Street.
The bus stop was about five hundred ters from the diner.
It was six o’clock in the morning, and Suzhou Street was already bustling with people. Jing Haohao exited the bus and made her way towards the diner.
The shops on both sides of the street were still closed, their walls plastered with all sorts of posters.
One place stood out, however.
It was the mysterious large-door building with towering walls.
Jing Haohao rembered talking to a coworker about this strange sight when they were heading ho from work.
She had passed by this place many tis, but the gate was always closed in her mory.
However, today, the door was left ajar.
