Chapter 717: Chapter 718: Courage (10)_1
At the ti, Jiangshan City was still in the midst of winter, bitterly cold.
She was probably a little hungry after dismissing from school, so she sought warmth and food at a small hot pot place nearby.
The place was crowded and bustling. He was seated behind her, but she didn’t notice him.
There was a girl student sitting in front of her, asking about all sorts of things. Having felt chilled, they had drunk so spirits to warm themselves up, and Jing Haohao was surprisingly talkative.
He rembered her first words: “Actually, I’m not hungry. I just wanted to eat sothing here. It’s Chinese New Year, everyone is ho for reunion, but I didn’t want to go ho.”
That girl’s next question was whether Jing Haohao had a boyfriend or not.
He had assud that Jing Haohao, who was always so nonchalant around familiar faces, would laugh and dodge such a question. But surprisingly, Jing Haohao fell silent for a mont before answering, “I did, but we broke up recently.”
Perhaps girls have a knack for gossip. Thus, that girl bombarded Jing Haohao with a flurry of questions about her ex-boyfriend.
anwhile, her ex-boyfriend sat right behind her, silently listening to their conversation.
The girl asked, “Why did you break up with your boyfriend? Didn’t he treat you well?”
Jing Haohao’s voice was calm, as if narrating soone else’s story, “No, he treated
well. It’s just that we weren’t a good match.”
The girl pressed, “You’re so beautiful, how could you not be a good match?”
Jing Haohao seed taken aback by the question, and gave a vague response, “In many aspects, we were just not compatible.”
The girl probed further, “Have you t with him after your breakup? Wasn’t it awkward? Is there no chance for you two to reconcile?”
Despite finding the girl a chatterbox, he remained attentive, listening for Jing Haohao’s reply.
“I don’t think there’s a chance for us to get back together. We had too many differences. And I had a boyfriend before him; he minded his existence. After all, my past is unchangeable. Plus, I don’t think I deserve him.”
Jing Haohao chuckled lightly when she finished her sentence.
But he could hear a note of bitterness hidden in her laughter.
He had no idea that a careless remark during an argunt that day could have impacted her so much.
Back then, he simply wanted to convey that, if she had no past, he wouldn’t feel insecure and threatened, and they wouldn’t have fought.
But to her, it seed to imply that he objected to her past.
He was the one who ended their relationship because he loved her more than she did him. Logically, her past shouldn’t concern him anymore.
But despite his claim of not interfering with her life, he was still peeking into her world.
Just like how he staged a fake engagent in an attempt to establish an equal footing between them, thus claiming a piece of the past for himself.
…
On the day of Liang Chen’s engagent, Jing Haohao had to catch a coach to the countryside to select flowers from a florist.
…
Liang Chen’s wedding was cancelled. As it was a weekend, he woke up close to noon. As he habitually turned on the news while heading downstairs for lunch, a news report of a traffic accident caught his attention.
A coach had crashed on the highway and rolled into a valley.
As the nas of the passengers on the coach were announced, he imdiately spotted Jing Haohao’s na.
