Shen Liangnian received a call from the hospital at nine in the morning, informing him that his lab results were ready and that he should find ti to collect them.
Ever since the company was sold, his workload had diminished, and he was free to co and go as he pleased. So, he drove to the hospital after lunch.
There were many people in the hospital, all waiting in queue to collect their lab results. As Shen Liangnian sat and observed the surroundings, filled with anxious individuals accompanied by their families, he felt an increasing sense of calm.
His number was thirty-seven which ant a long wait. Indeed, he waited an entire hour before it was his turn.
Those in front of him had mixed reactions. So were relieved to find their fears unfounded while others seed lost and devastated after their consultations.
When a pretty nurse called out, “Number 37,” Shen Liangnian stood up and his movent caught the attention of many eyes.
He knew that like him, these individuals were here because they were ill. They sought so sort of consolation, hoping for similarities in the experiences of others who shared their fate.
With a calm deanor, Shen Liangnian followed the nurse into the diagnosis room. The doctor there was the sa one who had checked him last ti: “Mr. Shen, please take a seat.”
Shen Liangnian nodded and sat down.
The elderly doctor went over his lab results several tis, then adjusted his reading glasses, turned to Shen Liangnian and said, “Mr. Shen, you’ve had atrophic gastritis for a while now, but you have not been paying attention to your diet. I’m afraid it has now turned into cancer, but it’s not too severe yet.”
Cancer… Just a few days ago, he had thought about the promise he made to Jing Haohao. He had wondered if breaking that promise would bring about so sort of retribution. And now, it had indeed arrived.
The doctor noticed Shen Liangnian’s silence and assud he was shocked by this news and continued saying, “But, Mr. Shen, it’s treatable. Your stomach cancer is still in its interdiate stage, and while I can’t guarantee a complete cure, if you cooperate with our treatnt, we can certainly extend your life significantly.”
Shen Liangnian pulled himself together and repressed his random thoughts. Looking at the doctor, he blinked calmly and said, as if he wasn’t the one diagnosed with cancer, “Let
think about it.”
“Mr. Shen, there’s no ti to waste in matters like these. I advise you to consider undergoing treatnt as soon as possible. If you delay it, even survival beyond five years may not be assured, let alone more than ten years.”
So, now his life was attempting to escape the grim reaper’s grasp.
Shen Liangnian gave a faint smile, nodded, and collected his lab report before leaving the hospital.
Outside, the sun was still blazing down fiercely. He felt a familiar discomfort in his upper abdon, much like he had felt a few days ago. He had known for a while about his bad stomach but had never given it much thought. Little did he know that the discomfort would eventually turn into a life-threatening disease.
Shen Liangnian got back in his car, started the engine, and began to drive aimlessly. Sohow, he found himself outside of Jiangshan City, heading in the direction of the Film and Television City.
Suddenly, he yearned to see Jing Haohao.
He didn’t need her to talk to him nor did he want her to see him. But when confronted with such devastating news, the first person who ca to mind was Jing Haohao.
