Liang Chen returned ho early which led to a lot of work at the company being delayed. After dinner, he received a phone call from the company. Chen instructed Nanny Lin to accompany Jing Haohao for a walk, and he went directly to the study on the second floor to attend to company matters.
In late March, the temperature in Jiangshan City began to warm up. The air at middle altitude on the hills was fresh throughout the year.
Nanny Lin and Jing Haohao slowly walked along the stone road in the yard.
Throughout the half year plus period in which Jing Haohao had been living in this villa, Nanny Lin had been taking ticulous care of her.
Jing by now vaguely understood that Nanny Lin, having lost her spouse and having no children, was introduced to Liang Chen and engaged to take care of him through mutual acquaintances. After spending five or six years in this villa, with no ho of her own, she had co to see the villa as her own ho. In ti, she began to look after Chen as if he were her own son.
Chen was busy with work every day, often absent from ho for long periods. After Jing Haohao moved into the villa, Nanny Lin beca much more occupied. A lot of the ti, she revolved around Jing Haohao.
Jing Haohao and Liang Chen would often argue, and Haohao was always the one who ended up completely defeated. However, after interacting with Jing Haohao for so ti, Nanny Lin knew that Jing was in fact a good-natured and kind-hearted person, just a bit stubborn. She genuinely liked Jing Haohao, and went out of her way to be nice to her, not just because of Liang Chen’s instructions, but purely out of genuine affection.
In the villa, Jing did not know anyone else particularly well, and most of her interactions were with Nanny Lin. In her heart, she had already co to think of Nanny Lin as an elder.
Rembering Chen’s early instructions to keep a close eye on Jin Haohao, Nanny Lin could not help but ask, “Miss Jing, have you and Mr. Chen had any disagreents recently?”
“No,” said Jing Haohao, turning her head in surprise to look at Nanny Lin and shake her head. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” Nanny Lin was even more confused. If they hadn’t argued, why would Mr. Chen suggest Jing was feeling low?
Nanny Lin fervently hoped that Jing Haohao and Liang Chen would live well together. So, she smiled and said, “Miss Jing, don’t think I’m being too nosy. Mr. Chen has a temper, and he might not seem approachable, but he is genuinely a good person.”
“When my husband fell ill, we took on a lot of debt, and he eventually passed away. Where was I, an old woman, going to get that kind of money to pay it back? I was being pushed around with nowhere to go until Mr. Chen helped
pay off my debts and allowed
to take care of him here.”
“I say take care of him, but as you can see, there are plenty of servants in this villa. All I have to do is give orders, I don’t really have to do anything.”
“Actually, Mr. Chen didn’t used to co back here to stay often, but after Miss Jing moved in, he has been coming ho every day.”
