The night was deep, Shen Liangnian wore his hospital attire, put on a coat, hailed a taxi at the hospital entrance and went straight to Liang Chen’s villa on Half Mountain.
When he arrived, it was already four in the morning, the world was still imrsed in darkness. The temperature on Half Mountain was sowhat low, Shen Liangnian stood at the villa’s entrance feeling a slight chill, stomping his feet from ti to ti.
The world was incredibly quiet, Shen Liangnian took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, lit one. Through the swirling smoke, he found himself rembering the day of his birthday a few years ago, when Jing Haohao had rushed back from the filming site to celebrate with him. It was winter then, he had a sudden eting at his company, and had left his phone in the office. The eting lasted a full four hours. When it finally finished, he saw over a dozen missed calls on his phone. Picking up, he heard Jing Haohao’s voice co through, choked with emotion, “Liangnian, I’ve been waiting for you downstairs at your place for a long ti, I don’t have the security card to enter the building.”
He rushed over in his car, seeing Jing Haohao’s frostbitten hands and flushed face, a pang of pain shot through his heart and he imdiately pulled her into his arms.
At that ti, it was not him who was freezing, not him who had been standing for four hours. He did not know what that felt like.

At half-past seven in the morning, Jing Haohao woke up slowly from her bed. Liang Chen was already not by her side, the faint sound of water flowing could be heard from the bathroom.
Jing Haohao clutched the blanket and yawned twice, just as she was about to get out of bed, she heard the sudden ring of her phone.
The phone was the one that Liang Chen had bought for her last ti. Although it had been forcefully thrown, it was still perfectly functional.
The incoming call was from an unknown number. Jing Haohao glanced at it and knew who it was, startled, she imdiately hung up.
How did Shen Liangnian get her phone number?
As Jing Haohao was lost in her thoughts, Shen Liangnian’s phone call rang through again. Jing Haohao kept hanging up, Shen Liangnian kept calling. This went on for a while until the sound of water from the bathroom stopped temporarily, and she heard Liang Chen’s voice, “Haohao, is your phone ringing?”
“No, it’s not.” Jing Haohao responded, and just when the words left her mouth, her phone rang again. In her fluster, she accidentally answered the call.
Liang Chen heard her reply and the sound of water started up again. Jing Haohao hesitated for a while before she put the phone up to her ear.
“Haohao.” Shen Liangnian’s voice sounded feeble, as if it was coming from a great distance.
Jing Haohao held her phone, her breath hitching. It took her so ti to regain her composure, and the other end of the call fell silent.
The two of them stayed silent for a mont before Shen Liangnian spoke again: “Haohao, I know it’s you because this is the phone number that I got from Fang Lu.”
Jing Haohao remained silent. Yesterday, he was unconscious when she saw him and she could control her emotions, but now, hearing his voice, she found that her whole body started to tremble.
“Haohao, it’s okay if you don’t want to talk. Co out, let’s et and talk.”
