Chapter 175: Chapter 176: Encounter (5)_1

“My classmates always say that my dad is very handso. I don’t know if it’s because I’m with him every day, but I’m sowhat indifferent to his good looks.”

There was a red mark underlining an error with the word ‘indifferent’.

“I think my dad isn’t as good looking as my mom. My mom has dark hair, big eyes, curved eyebrows, neat teeth, and when she laughs, two shallow dimples appear on her cheeks…”

The next three hundred words were all about Jing Haohao’s mom.

At the end of the composition, there was a “2” marked by the teacher, and a note that said, ‘It’s about your dad, not your mom!’

The essay was quite dull, with no substantial content, and a naive tone that was sowhat comical, but Liang Chen carefully read through every word.

Principal Fang recounted all that he could rember about Jing Haohao.

Most of it consisted of childhood antics. Because it was a small town, the anecdotes seed largely monotonous, but Liang Chen listened very attentively.

Whenever he heard sothing funny, his eyes would crinkle unconsciously.

Latter on, Principle Fang related the year the town suffered massive flooding, leaving Jing Haohao orphaned and taken in by Shen Liangnian’s family.

From this point onward, it seed there weren’t any pleasant mories.

“I still rember when Old Shen fell gravely ill. His own son was attending high school in the county, so it was Haohao who took care of everything. She was just a child, washing clothes by the icy river in the dead of winter, cooking… There’s one thing that I don’t think Old Shen and his son know about. When spring just arrived, and the ice and snow were lting, Haohao slipped while washing clothes by the river and fell in… If my son and I hadn’t happened to pass by and rescue her, she would not have survived. Do you know what the first thing she said when she woke up?”

“She said, ‘Don’t tell Mr. Shen and Liangnian.’ Look at that. She almost lost her life for the Shen family and yet she was worried about bothering others.” Shaking his head, Principal Fang continued, “Haohao is a sensible girl, grateful, and always repaying kindness. At a young age, she helped the Shen family a great deal. Old Shen picked the right girl to sponsor… His own son never cared for him like that…”

In the end, Principal Fang just kept repeating, “Haohao is a good girl.”

Liang Chen didn’t say anything for a long ti.

He never knew that the frail young girl who lived in his villa had almost lost her life for the Shen family!

Eventually, Principal Fang had drunk too much and was helped by his daughter to go inside and rest.

Only then did Liang Chen get up to leave.

It was already dark when he stepped outside. He got into his car, switched on the headlights, and looked over the things about Jing Haohao’s childhood that he had gotten from Principal Fang.

One of them was a photograph of her from elentary school.

She was, as Principal Fang had described, very beautiful then, with big eyes and chubby cheeks, looking very adorable.

Her eyes were just as they now are – clear, looking like the purest thing in the world.

The car window lowered, and a breeze blew in from the small town, carrying a hint of cold and the sweet scent of the countryside. The photograph in Liang Chen’s hand swayed gently with the wind.

The usually cold and aloof Liang Chen’s eyes softened, becoming warm and gentle as he stared at the photo, for a mont it felt as if he was looking at the most enchanting painting in the world.
