As our first attack connected with the devil’s, a wave of energy surged from his body and pushed us away before launching himself at Valentina, who stood frozen with her sword on guard.
Her face showed fear, but her body stood tall, and her chin held high against the devil, slicing the air before her as she tried to hit the shadowy entity, but it was to no avail as Armaros appeared behind her.
"Another knight for my collection," he said with an evil grin that reached his ears.
lina and I both tried casting a spell, but the chances that it would hit the commander were too high, and just as his energy began to seep into her body to possess her, soone appeared behind Armaros himself.
"Quite a sloppy job for a devil..." said Vespera as she used her spider legs to slap the devil away from Valentina into a wall.
From the dust that was raised in the impact, the maniacal laugh of the devil reverberated in the room. Suddenly, the possessed Garret began attacking in a frenzy.
I deflected his attacks with my bo, but his dexterity had risen to a point where I couldn’t hold him down with my attacks unless I knocked him out completely.
On the other side, Vespera exchanged blows with Armaros, who had materialized a black sword in his hands and was parrying all of my companion’s attacks.
Simultaneously, Garret was brought to his knees by a heavy gravity spell that lina had cast, giving an opportunity to help out Vespera.
Tapping out from my fight with the commander, Valentina took my place as she fought with the possessed knight that had his inhumane movents seized by gravity.
In a quick succession of attacks between and Vespera, she kept the devil’s arms busy as he protected himself from her spider legs, leaving an opening for to slam his torso with my bo with all of my strength, pushing him onto another wall.
Once again, the maniacal laugh was heard throughout the room before three shadow bullets appeared.
In less than a second, I saw Yoru absorbing the projectile that was directed at lina, the second projectile was deflected by Vespera using her spider legs, and the last shot was directed at Valentina.
Realizing she would be the only one getting hit, I jumped in front of her and raised an earth wall to protect us from the spell. However, the projectile still managed to break through the wall.
Luckily I raised my bo and coated it with magic, deflecting the attack to the side and destroying a pillar.
Armaros laughed as he appeared from the dust cloud.
"How lucky for ! To be encountered by such a weak demi-god and an ever weaker champion!" he said before laughing out loud with an unsettling tone as the ground started to tremble.
"I’ll make sure to take care of your Legendary Beast once you are all buried..." said Armaros, the pillars and walls crumbling.
At that mont, lina quickly held Valentina’s hand and used teleport to take her out of the room while I used my magic to keep the stone columns from collapsing.
’Bad idea to lure him into a closed space... But we couldn’t have Garret out in the open, so it’s not like we had a choice...’ I thought as I kept the room from crumbling on top of us.
[Vespera, Yoru!] I called on my companions, who were exchanging blows with the devil.
[This place won’t hold any longer. Let’s bring him outside-] I telepathically tried to tell my companions, but Garret began attacking again.
"Goddamit, man, you are gonna die if this place collapses too!" I yelled at the possessed knight, knowing that nothing I said would make it through his head.
However, Garret did stop his attacks for a few seconds after I yelled at him.
"You are still in there, Garret! Keep fighting!" I yelled, making him grab his head and stop his onslaught of attacks.
’He really is fighting that thing inside of him...’ I thought.
But we needed to keep my plan in motion, and right at that mont, lina appeared next to us again. Having left Valentina outside in a safe location, she returned to help us with the devil.
"Plan?" she vaguely asked.
"We gotta get him out of here..." I said as we watched Vespera and Yoru exchange blows with Armaros.
"What if we raise the entire place?" lina said.
At first, her idea didn’t make much sense to , but then it clicked.
Between the both of us, we could easily raise the ground level until we broke through the surface to the outside. The problem was that we were in the middle of town, so if we dragged him out, we would have to be cautious.
There was no other option, as the room was just a few seconds away from entirely collapsing.
"Alright then!" I yelled, making lina and I place our palms on the ground and raise the floor like an elevator.
Vespera was busy deflecting the devil’s attacks, so I used my other hand and pointed it upwards, using earth magic to create a giant hole in the building that led all the way to the rooftop.
As the ground rose, we used the massive cavity that I created in the barracks and were all sent out to the open, with the two full moons adorning the sky brightly.
Right as we took flight, I saw Armaros charging a powerful shadow projectile in his hands.
Seeing that people were still walking around the streets, I quickly propelled myself toward him before he could shoot, grabbed his arm, and teleported us both to the hill where he had attacked from as he released his spell.
The projectile managed to graze , but my poncho protected from any significant damage.
I stepped back to gain so distance from Armaros when he started laughing.
"Was it really a good idea for you to face alone? Listen, boy, you may be a demi-god, but if you can’t even do ’that,’ how do you expect to have a chance against ?" Armaros said, his evil grin getting wider.
I didn’t know what he ant by "that," and frankly, I didn’t care much for the words of a devil, especially not one that was trying to hurt us.
What he didn’t know is that I wasn’t alone, as I always had soone I could count on right in my shadow.
My plan was to catch him off-guard and have Yoru deal so damage while we waited for the others to arrive. I knew they were probably subduing Garret and that they would definitely co soon after.
Nonetheless, my secret plan failed when I noticed that Yoru had left my shadow and was standing beside .
His blue marks began shining bright along with his eyes as his body quivered.
"Yoru...?" I asked, noticing that Armaros was also in shock, looking at my companion.
Powerful energy began flowing from his body as it grew in size slightly, his blue marks shined brighter than ever, and his face looked vicious.
’Ah! This is his skill, ’moon buff!’ I had never seen it before...’ I thought, staring at Yoru’s transformation.
The energy felt just like it did when I used "night magic," making wonder if Yoru’s transformation was just his own way of casting that type of magic.
In Kyoko’s book, she said that "night spells" worked using the energy from the stars and the moons, but I had never tried to use the moon’s energy for anything as it always felt sowhat faint.
However, it was a full-moon night, and I could feel the massive amounts of energy that it extruded, buffing Yoru’s power even more.
"Huh, seems that dog has more use than barking. I suppose I’ll be taking him too," said Armaros, witnessing my companion’s transformation.
Releasing a wave of lunar energy, Yoru was fully changed into a much bigger and vicious-looking wolf before looking at , his eyes shining with a turquoise hue.
Just by looking at , I started to feel the lunar energy coursing through my body.
[I get it. You want to use the energy to buff up too.] I said to him telepathically, making him nod in agreent.
’Heh, he may look different and scarier, but he is still my sa companion as always...’ I thought, montarily breaking my attention from the devil as I began absorbing the lunar energy.
However, the amount of energy my body was intaking began to feel overwhelming, making get on my knees as I tried to synthesize all of the MP flowing through .
"Tch!" the devil scoffed. "If I said you shouldn’t be able to do ’that,’ then you are not supposed to do it!" he yelled before launching at with his shadowy sword for an overhead attack.
However, just as Armaros appeared before to execute , Yoru erged from my shadow and clawed his torso violently, sending him flying away into the side of a rocky hill.
[Focus! I’ll protect you anwhile!] Yoru said telepathically.
