While the rest of our army marched inside the city walls, Fuego and I were standing before Drakzen and the Rock Dragon.

The devil had pulled out a black, one-edged sword from his arm, which had a strange black fiery energy surrounding it.

When my bo made contact with his sword, I realized that my bo’s special effect wasn’t activating, and none of the devil’s attacks were being deflected, essentially turning it into an ordinary stick.

It was still durable enough to protect against his blade, but I knew that it wouldn’t be sufficient to kill him.

As our weapons clashed, we moved fiercely around the field, raising clouds of snow that shrouded our location from Sage Louie’s broadcasting crystals.

anwhile, Fuego and his brother were fighting in their human forms, trading kicks and punches that they defended skillfully using martial arts.

Honestly, if I hadn’t been so busy dealing with Drakzen, I would’ve paid more attention to their moves since they had the skills of a true combat expert.

My strategy when fighting devils was to make them use their "true forms," which was when they released their full power.

Killing the devils in that state was the best way to be sure that they wouldn’t return. If we took them out while they were in their human forms, they could easily heal their wounds.

My problem was that Drakzen was too damn strong, and I couldn’t understand why he had so much more power than the previous devils.

Suddenly, Fuego and his brother took their fight to the skies as they turned into their dragon forms, bringing a storm with them that covered the area where Drakzen and I were fighting.

"Haha! —This is getting intense!" Drakzen shouted, taking a quick step forward that left him right in front of .

With a quick motion, he waved his sword at my neck, making protect it with my bo and leaving my other side wholly open, which the devil used to elbow in the face.

Still, as my head turned to the side from his strike, I managed to return the favor with a kick to his chin, pushing him back.

*Ptoo* I spat out a bit of blood that was flowing from the inside of my cheek.

We kept exchanging a barrage of attacks, so of them hitting, so of them getting deflected. However, none of us received any significant damage during the trade.

At one point, we heard Baelzor loudly screaming all the way from the city, which was a few kiloters away from our location.

"DRAKZEN, DO IT!!" said Baelzor’s voice.

’What the...-?’ I pondered.

Drakzen then released a nova of shadow magic around him that made get away from him to avoid it, and while his spell didn’t cover much terrain, it was enough to give him ti to cast another one.

"How botherso, am I right?" Drakzen comnted as a red, shiny sparkle ford atop his palm.

"What are you doing?" I asked, sensing that his spell wasn’t a damaging one.

"I’m just sending a little gift, that’s all..." the devil replied, shooting the red star into the sky, where it flew away towards the city.

’Was that so sort of buffing spell?’ I wondered.

"Impressive. So, you can buff other devils from this far away?" I asked, keeping my gaze serious and locked on the devil.

"Likewise, it is impressive you could tell it was a buff from simply looking at it," Drakzen replied.

"Is that how you tried ssing with Nessa during the tournant?" I asked again.

"Hmm? Oh, yeah. I was just trying to have a little fun back then..." said the devil with an unamused tone.

"Why? You also used Nessa’s blood to make those pink goblins..." I continued.

"I was doing her a favor, of course. Nexa is just such an ungrateful girl," he said.

"I don’t think you know her that well," I replied.

I had been adventuring with Nessa for quite so ti by that point, and she had always been a kind girl who just wanted to live and have fun.

"Hehe, are you sure? Maybe she was just lying this whole ti!" Drakzen mockingly comnted.

"Nice try, but I can confirm that both Nessa and Jackson are people I can fully trust," I said with a confident smirk.

Both Jackson and Nessa had not only given different reasons to trust them, but Triana Sephyr, who held the "True Eye," never saw anything wrong with their aura when she t them.

Drakzen chuckled. "Heh, fine... Do you want to know what my problem is with those two? It’s simple, really—They are both traitors," he said.

"Okay...? Why? For trying to assimilate to this world peacefully?" I asked.

"That’s right. Our orders were to conquer this land, not live in harmony with its residents," Drakzen explained.

He said that, in Hell, devils had to fight other armies to keep a piece of land, so his king decided to invade their world to stop his subordinates from going to war with the other demon kings.

In a strange way, it sounded like the demon king wanted the best for his subordinates, but they were doing it all wrong.

"What makes you think that people here won’t fight back? You probably know that other devils have tried to do the sa thing in the past, right?"

"Right... and they were all eliminated," Drakzen said, his tone sowhat sad.

"Did you know, Ichiro, that one in one million devils develop emotions and morals?" he asked.

I shook my head in denial, and the devil chuckled at my ignorance, saying that he had found those devils to be absolutely repulsive.

"Emotions? Morals? Those are just ideas that keep us from completing our true goal..." Drakzen continued.

"I see..." I said, clenching my bo tightly.

Not every devil had the ability to be "human" like Nessa, Jackson, and Grul, so it wasn’t like we could just make them change their minds.

’I wonder if we could sohow get those rare devils on our side...?’ I thought.
