When the emperor launched himself at with his massive sword in hand, I could feel his MP growing as he released more of his power.
Contrary to Sinoc, the mage who betrayed the Mages’ Tower and joined the devils’ side, the emperor didn’t have any demonic energy flowing from him, so it was clear to that he was still human.
His attacks were heavy and quick, but with my magic bo’s side effect that parried all physical attacks, it didn’t matter how much strength he put in his blows as they always got pushed back.
I would have expected any other person to stop attacking and think of another strategy, but the emperor was not giving up his relentless barrage.
At that mont, I understood that he was trying to keep busy to give Baelzor a chance to get away from , and the man was doing an excellent job at it.
Any ti that I rushed at Baelzor, the emperor would follow up right behind , not giving ti to deal with the devil as I had to protect myself.
Seeing that Baelzor jumped up to the throne room, I quickly flipped my bo and hit the emperor in the face, giving a short mont to chase the devil. However, as soon as I got there, Baelzor had already left the castle.
I ran out of the throne room into the halls, and as I made my way to the nearest terrace with a view of the capital, the emperor kept following like a maniac with his sword in hand.
When I arrived at the balcony, I turned and released a powerful gust of wind that pushed the emperor back before I flew out of the castle.
I could feel Baelzor’s demonic energy not too far away, but I couldn’t sense Drakzen’s, which was making worry since I knew he always appeared at the least opportune tis.
*BOOM!* A loud explosion echoed in the city’s center. Turning my attention to it and seeing that the gates to the castle grounds had been destroyed, I spotted Fuego flying on top of it.
I was about to start flying towards him when a second figure appeared in the air, shooting a giant shadowy projectile at Fuego, who covered his dragon body in a magical barrier to protect himself.
"The dark wyvern..." I muttered, but I was distracted long enough for the emperor to catch back up with .
When I turned around mid-air, the man was already next to with his sword raised, which I found interesting since he wasn’t flying—he just used wind magic to jump extrely high.
After easily deflecting his attack, I used wind magic to push him back down, crashing into the ground. Still, I could sense his MP rising in the middle of the dust cloud, so I knew he was still alive.
When the dust settled, I noticed that the emperor didn’t even have a scratch on him, and the MP coating his body was quite dense.
’He isn’t all talk—This guy is pretty strong...’ I thought.
I could tell that the emperor practiced the Viking martial art, which used the MP to coat their bodies and strengthen them, but I wasn’t expecting him to be an expert and receive zero damage from a fall that high.
Nevertheless, I had to focus on my first target, which was Baelzor. Sensing his demonic energy was still nearby, I ignored the emperor and flew towards the devil at high speeds.
I left the castle grounds in the center of the city and hovered above the inner ring, spotting Harvey and his knights fighting the guards protecting the gates.
They were getting close to the lever they needed to pull to open it, but our troops hadn’t even entered the outer ring yet, so even if they succeeded, our army was still far from reaching it.
I kept flying to the third ring of the city, which was the middle one, and I was surprised to see the steel gates were falling.
’Is that Arashi...?’ I pondered, unable to detail the person in the smoke that rose from the area, but the lightning MP I sensed gave a clue.
We had all the inner gates of the city open, so we needed to focus on opening the outer rings for our troops.
I was still chasing Baelzor’s demonic energy, which kept getting further away from , making believe that he was going to the battlefield in the outskirts.
However, after sensing his presence stopping abruptly, I relished the opportunity and increased my flying speed to catch up to him.
When I got closer to the second outer ring of the city, I saw lina and Nessa fighting against Baelzor, and the devil was getting pushed back and thrown around by the two won.
Seeing that they had the devil under control, I rembered that Drakzen was also around sowhere, but I couldn’t sense him nearby, which only made more worried.
["Ichiro, I cleansed all the soldiers inside the steel castle."] Vespera said telepathically.
After the commotion we caused that made catch the attention of Baelzor and the emperor, Vespera was free to roam around the castle and feed our potions to the guards inside, cleansing their brainwashing curse.
[Good. Hold that position and kill any Accursed Beasts that show up..."] I replied, making my way to the outskirts of the city.
The outer ring was the widest in the city, and most of the citizens who were not soldiers lived there.
Thorgest, the emperor’s brother, told that not every citizen had been brainwashed, as so people unconsciously protected their bodies with their Viking martial arts.
However, that didn’t an that they weren’t being exploited, as the citizens who couldn’t fight were all put to work in the different mines surrounding the city.
The production of food had decreased drastically, so the enslaved citizens were not only forced to work in terrible conditions, but they were also starving.
’If we could get so of those citizens to revolt and join us, we could have our troops advance quicker...’ I thought.
