After lina completed the second part of the Storm Dragon’s trial, she was lying in my arms, exhausted but still conscious.
I gave her an MP potion so that she would recover her magic a little when the dragon approached us again.
"That was perfect..." she muttered.
"Thanks," lina replied, letting out a playful but weak chuckle as she drank the potion.
"I suppose it is ti for to give you the relic, then," the dragon continued, her words sounding lancholic.
For so reason, the dragon looked quite sad about giving us the relic. Although to be fair, it’s not like she ever looked excited to see us.
The dragon walked to the side of the plateau with a rocky wall and used earth magic to open it up like a door, leading to a small secret cave.
The room was filled with gold, gems, treasure chests—pretty much anything shiny.
However, in the center, there was a small stone altar with a yellow crystal orb on top.
It wasn’t as big as the one we got in Guanghua, as this one was the size of a baseball, while the one we found at the palace was more like a beach ball or an oversized basketball.
The dragon grabbed the orb and stepped back outside, where lina was already standing after regaining so of her energy from the potion.
"Here you go..." she said, handing the relic to lina.
"Umm, are you okay?" the princess asked, noticing that the dragon looked quite sad.
"Hmm? I think I am..." she replied.
I couldn’t tell if the dragon didn’t know what being sad felt like or if she was trying to hide her emotions from us.
"You miss her... right?" lina asked, making and the dragon widen our eyes.
The storm dragon was taking care of the relic since Kyoko asked her to, and they had a familiar contract together, so it was safe to say that they were good friends back then.
The dragon looked down with apprehension, letting out a sigh and explaining that she had been sleeping for a long ti.
During that ti, all she dreamt about were the adventures she had with Kyoko, so whenever she was awake, the dragon felt bored and sad.
"Do not worry about . It’s just a side effect of waking up..." the dragon said.
’She is depressed? Well, I can’t really bla her...’ I thought.
"No. That shouldn’t be sothing you feel every ti you wake up!" lina exclaid, shocking the dragon.
"I’m sure if Kyoko was here, she would have hated seeing you like this..." she continued.
The dragon was silent, with her eyes widened at lina’s words, who kept scolding her for her behavior.
"Our lives might not be as long as Legendary Beasts’, but we try our best to leave a world where others can live happily. That’s you!" lina shouted, grabbing the dragon by her shoulders.
The storm dragon was way taller than lina but not tall enough that she wouldn’t reach her shoulders, and as she looked down and locked eyes with her, a small tear ford under the dragon’s eye.
As soon as her tear trailed down her cheek and dropped to the ground, a gentle rain started to pour on us.
It felt sort of warm, and there was no thunder or strong wind that made the rain unsettling.
’That’s a powerful tear...’ I thought.
"Can I ask you sothing? What was the na Kyoko gave you back then?" lina asked, now holding the dragon’s hand to comfort her tears.
"Arashi..." she replied.
Her na ant "Storm" in Japanese, which made sense since Kyoko used to be from Japan.
"Arashi, do you want to join us?" lina continued asking, her eyes locked onto the dragon’s.
"Kyoko-...?" the dragon muttered as she stared at the princess.
’Did she just picture lina as Kyoko?’ I pondered, watching the whole exchange from the side.
For the first ti since we t her, Arashi showed a slight smile.
"It would be my pleasure," she replied, generating a mist around them that spiraled and disappeared quickly.
"Welp, Arashi. Welco to the family!" I exclaid, seeing that they had just started a familiar contract with each other.
’HUH!? 350 THOUSAND MP!?’ I thought, wholly shocked at Arashi’s MP pool.
Vespera ntioned that dragons were known as so of the most powerful beasts in the world, but I honestly wasn’t expecting it to be that much of a difference.
Beasts would get stronger whenever they made a familiar contract, which happened with both Yoru and Vespera after they joined .
It wasn’t an instant boost, but they were able to learn and improve their powers with ti.
Depending on how powerful the person was, the companions would be able to get much stronger.
’Did she get that strong from her contract with Kyoko? Just how powerful was she anyways?’ I pondered.
I rembered that Vespera had around 35 thousand MP the first ti I t her, and while I knew that it had gone up exponentially since then, I was curious to see it now.
"Wow! Vesp, your magic has grown so much. What the hell?" I asked, pleasantly surprised.
It had been a long ti since I checked her stats, so I didn’t know she had gotten so much stronger.
My companion puffed out her chest pridefully and rubbed her nose, saying that it was only natural for her to beco stronger as she had things she wanted to protect.
I chuckled. "Is that so?"
It seed like our conversation resonated with Arashi, who had a discreet smile on her face while looking at and my companion ssing around.
"Arashi, once we get rid of the devils, let’s go and travel the world..." lina muttered loud enough for everyone to hear.
"Traveling is better when you enjoy it with others," I said, finishing her sentence, as it was one of the things that lina used to say in our past life.
