As I kept talking with the three beastkin soldiers who were awake, I was trying to co up with a solution to their curse.
They couldn’t be healed since Zagor would find out imdiately that the curse was broken.
At first, I thought that this wouldn’t be a problem, but when I thought about it, all these soldiers probably had families and loved ones that were being threatened.
In other words, even if they escaped and healed their curse, their loved ones in Kalusia would pay the price for it.
Vespera was there with , and she began inspecting the three n closely for a few minutes.
While she did her own research, I sent a voice ssage to lina, which, once again, was in the middle of the night.
’I need to stop contacting people this late...’ I thought before sending the voice ssage.
In it, I asked lina to check on Reinar, who was researching the black pearl. Not that I didn’t trust him with it, but I knew that he would overwork himself until he found the solution to its powers.
Besides, lina was more knowledgeable than Reinar when it ca to raw magic experience, while Reinar had the upper hand on alchemy.
Nonetheless, the research on the black pearls fell into those two categories, so I thought that if she gave it a look, it would be helpful and speed up Reinar’s work.
"Ichiro..." said Vespera after I sent the ssage, beckoning to go to her position next to the beastkins.
"What’s up? Did you find sothing?" I asked.
"Now, hear out... What if Zagor couldn’t tell if the curse was broken after soone with it dies...?" she comnted.
"Umm, but that would leave them dead..." I replied, showing the clear flaw with her plan.
Vespera shook her head and elaborated what she ant.
When she closely inspected the curse, she said she found a trail of magic that was different from the other energy that the curse produced.
"What do you an?" I asked, leading her to show as she approached one of the beastkins.
"Focus on seeing the curse energy..." she said, so I did the sa thing I did when inspecting the two soldiers in the desert and concentrated on seeing the MP around them.
As the shadowy energy appeared before my eyes, I could see it moving the sa way as before, going into the left side of their chests.
"Now, try to separate the different strands of magic..." said Vespera, which was a pretty vague explanation, but I understood what she ant.
When seeing the shadowy energy moving around, I could see "strands" of magic as if they were hairlocks, and when I focused on splitting them up, there was one trail that felt much different than the others.
"That part of the curse is what gives Zagor information on the cursed person’s body..." said Vespera.
"If the person’s heart were to stop, that part of the curse would disappear as it would tell Zagor that the person died..." she continued elaborating.
I could tell what she was trying to say, but it was still a pretty crazy idea.
I an, she was basically saying that we had to stop their hearts montarily so Zagor would think they were dead and heal their curse imdiately along with their heart.
"Even if we found a way to do that, are you sure that will work?" I asked.
"I’m certain," she replied confidently.
Whenever Vespera got serious about sothing, it was good to listen to her. She was always very nonchalant and carefree, so the tis she took the situation seriously were monts that I knew were important.
The three beastkins had been listening to our conversation with fearful faces, and it wasn’t without reason.
We were basically talking about killing them right in front of them, so it was understandable that they were terrified.
Nonetheless, one of the three nodded at us as if offering himself to be the test subject.
The man was a beastkin with tiger features. He had the ears, the tail, and the claws. His body was closer to a human’s than a tiger, but he still had a few fur patches and black stripes on his body.
"What’s your na?" I asked the tiger man.
"Kato..." the man replied.
"Alright, Kato. Thanks for volunteering for this..." I said to the man before turning to Vespera.
"Now what?" I asked my companion.
Vespera placed her hand on her chin for a few seconds, turned around, and grabbed the holy panacea I had put on the table.
"We can’t feed them the potion, rember," I comnted.
"I had a different idea..." said my companion as she approached Kato, who seed to start getting nervous.
Vespera opened the holy panacea and poured so of its contents on her hand until it was wholly doused in the potion.
Curious, I raised an eyebrow, but I didn’t say anything to let Vespera focus on her thing.
"Now, if you’ll excuse ..." she muttered to the man, raising her hand and driving it straight through his chest.
I couldn’t even speak up since I was so shocked after seeing her just stab Kato with her hand, who was even more shocked than .
I thought she would cast a spell or sothing, not use her bare hands like that. Nonetheless, I tried to remain calm, rembering that she had doused her hand with the holy panacea.
As Kato lost consciousness with Vespera’s hand still inside his chest, I felt my companion use a very faint amount of lightning magic. Then, she slowly retracted her hand from his chest.
Right as she did, she grabbed a healing potion to close the wound, although it was partially healed due to the holy panacea that rubbed on it from Vespera’s hand.
"Well, the curse is gone..." said Vespera as she held the unconscious Kato.
When I focused on his body, the shadowy aura was gone, so he was indeed cured, but that wasn’t our main concern.
Vespera said that since Kato had technically died before the curse was lifted, Zagor would think that he died in battle instead.
That’s when I understood what my companion had done precisely.
She drove her hand through Kato’s chest to stop his heart, killing him montarily.
She then used that mont to heal the curse with the holy panacea that drenched her hand, and lastly, she used lightning magic to reset the heartbeat and healed the wound with a potion in the end.
"That’s genius..." I muttered as she explained her process.
"Heh, I know!" she replied, confidently waving her hair back and standing proud.
