Sang Xue scoffed. “With the Lu family backing Gu Mang up, how could Qin Yaozhi dare to offend her when the Qin family is dependent on the Lu family?”
Pursing her lips, Shen Qianzi narrowed her cold eyes slightly. If it weren’t for Lu Chengzhou, the university wouldn’t have dared to publish the matter on their forum and my brother wouldn’t have forced to make a public apology on Weibo. I also wouldn’t have been subject to criticism by the public.
Upon recalling Gu Mang’s relationship with ng Jinyang, as well as Jiang Shenyuan’s attitude toward ng Jinyang, Sang Xue tightened her grip on the books she was carrying. Did Brother Jiang Shenyuan treat ng Jinyang so well because of Gu Mang’s relationship with Lu Chengzhou?
For the upcoming International Law Mock Trial Competition, only one volunteer would be selected from each batch of law students. It was the most important competition in the pre-law world and the participants were from the top teams at prestigious universities.
The students from our major fought madly for those spots, yet Brother Shenyuan gave the freshman’s spot to ng Jinyang just like that. In what way does she deserve it? All she did was score higher than on our first exam. I, on the other hand, have won many awards since I was a little kid.
“Let’s go.”
While Shen Qianzi retracted her gaze, Sang Xue bit her lip out of indignation.
...
Gu Mang and Qin Yaozhi entered the reading room. It was quiet inside. There were very few empty seats available. The students inside were all studying or reading books.
ng Jinyang, who was seated by the window, waved them over.
They walked to where ng Jinyang was sitting. After placing her bag on the chair, Gu Mang went to the computer area to locate the books she wanted. Qin Yaozhi, anwhile, sat next to ng Jinyang, whispering, “Jinyang, I heard that you got selected as a volunteer for the Mock Trial Competition.”
ng Jinyang nodded. She had only managed to get this opportunity because she was the top student in her major, which was international and dostic criminal law. As this was an international competition, she would be able to learn plenty of things, which would help prepare her when she participated in future competitions.
As Qin Yaozhi took out an English book, she said, “I’ll go with you when that ti cos. I can be your translator.”
The judges were well-known barristers who ca from all over the world, so they needed soone with excellent English skills on site.
“Alright.” ng Jinyang smiled when she heard that she would have company.
A few minutes later, Gu Mang returned with two thick and heavy dical books as well as the latest issue of a top dical journal. When she walked past ng Jinyang, she noticed that she had so notes and question marks marked out on a criminal case. Gu Mang’s gaze lingered on it for a mont as she placed her books on the table.
The next second, she put a hand on the back of ng Jinyang’s seat and a hand on the table as she leaned forward and said in a low voice, “It’s useless to just morize it. To understand the case, you have to know the boundaries of the law and what is included in the ordinance’s protection first.”
ng Jinyang looked sideways and saw that Gu Mang was right next to her. The latter picked up a pen and circled a part of the case analysis. “Since there are people who can exploit the loopholes in laws to escape criminal liability, that ans there are also people who can argue otherwise and send the offender to jail. You have to know what the boundaries are first.”
ng Jinyang’s eyes lit up after considering her words. “Let raise an example and you can check if I’m right.”
Gu Mang nodded, letting ng Jinyang continue.
When Qin Yaozhi noticed the discussion going on between the two of them, she leaned over to listen as well.
“A thief ca to steal things from my house but ended up with minor injuries when I beat him up. This is a case of assault. I’ll have to bear criminal responsibility if he sues for that. According to the law, I’ll be sentenced to imprisonnt of three years or less, or be subjected to a restraining order,” said ng Jinyang.
That was how the current law worked. One would be violating the law if they injured the thief who was breaking into their ho. It was rather unfair.
Gu Mang nodded. “That’s right.”
ng Jinyang continued. “However, if I counter-sue the thief and can provide the evidence of his possession of a deadly weapon, what I did will be considered self-defense, so I won’t be criminally liable. Is that right?”
“Yes. Define the course of conduct yourself.” Gu Mang circled another point in the book. “You have to determine the boundaries of the law first.”
There were two sides to everything and winning a case was about who could play the ga of exploiting the loopholes in the law better.
Enlightened, ng Jinyang smiled in gratitude at Gu Mang. “I got it.”
Qin Yaozhi stared dumbly at Gu Mang and swallowed her saliva a mont later. Sister Mang is explaining a case to the law school’s top student?
