Chapter 439: Chapter 433: Trouble Caused by Performance
She glanced roughly at the nas on the dication.
She took the drugs for the patient in bed eleven, and carefully picked up every bottle, ready to add them to the patient’s ongoing infusion. However, she was only focused on the nural ’11’, completely disregarding whether the ‘1’ in the patient’s full na was written in an unconventional way. A quick review of the patient record could have revealed that it was different from the na on the dicine, but she didn’t notice. The dicine had two characters, while the patient record had three.
Instructions on using the drug were clearly marked. Wei Jiani had already given many patients injections over the course of her internship, so she knew exactly how and where to administer these dications, even with her eyes closed.
She was extrely confident about her professional skills. No one among the interns could beat her. Her ntors had always said that she was naturally suited to beco a doctor. Although she initially didn’t want to attend dical school, now she felt satisfied with her decision.
Tang Yuxin ant nothing to her. The thought of staying in the main hospital while Tang Yuxin had to go elsewhere excited her beyond asure.
While lost in her visionary thoughts, she replaced the empty dicine bottle with a new one. Swinging the dicine tray, she walked out with a confident stride. Li Jia, who ca in a mont later, was left with the task of docunting- how the patients were doing, how many bottles of dication they had, and whether any special events had occurred.
After a thorough inspection, she couldn’t find anything unusual. She casually picked up the patient’s record hanging on the bed.
Li Guoji, what a good na.
Having flipped through the case file, she saw nothing wrong. So she hung the record back up and was about to leave. However, as she reached the door, she noticed that perhaps the IV drip had been a little too fast.
She adjusted the IV speed and glanced at the na on the dicine bottle again.
Qin Bei.
What about Liu Bei? She muttered to herself. But soon after, she froze.
Qin Bei, two characters.
She couldn’t believe what she was seeing. She scrutinized the drug bottle for a long ti. No way could she have mistaken it. Her vision was clear and sharp, but the dication was for the wrong person. She quickly grabbed the patient record and started to compare.
Li Guoji, Bed Eleven, underwent surgery for gastric bleeding.
However, the dicine bottle read: Qin Bei, bed eleven. Wait, that wasn’t eleven, that was seventeen. Cold sweat rolled down her forehead. Who could have made such a blunder? The patient with gastric bleeding was supposed to receive an anticoagulant, not a blood thinner.
This could cost soone their life.
She rushed to stop the infusion, but noticed that the patient’s complexion had drastically worsened. She pressed the ergency button, calling for help.
Several interns and nurses rushed in, but the on-call doctor was nowhere to be seen.
“Where is the on-call doctor?” asked Li Jia to a nurse.
“Dr. Zhang said he was going to get sothing. He hasn’t returned yet,” the nurse quickly replied.
“Dr. Wang and Dr. Li are currently busy. One is performing surgery, and the other is treating an ergency case.”
“Then what should we do?” Li Jia raised her voice, pointing at the patient. “Who’s in charge of him?”
A junior nurse dashed out. “What happened? Is there an ergency”
“Wrong dication,” pointed out Li Jia to the na on the dication bottle, “How could you be so careless? This patient had gastric bleeding and just underwent surgery, but the dication given was anticoagulant.”
“No, that is not possible,” the nurse shook her head, “I clearly rember that this patient had gastric bleeding. I won’t mistake the dication.”
“But look,” she invited the nurse to check the dication. Now the nurse could see the dication was indeed wrong. She went pale and rushed to find Wei Jiani, who was now trying to avoid eye contact and pretending to be oblivious.
Obviously, she was flustered as well. A bead of cold sweat rolled down from her forehead. She cursed herself for being careless. Sohow she had fetched the dication, yet she failed to cross-check the na. She had now given the wrong dication. What should she do?
“What’s going on, why are you all gathered here?” Tang Yuxin had just finished her rounds and was surprised to find no one outside. Why was everyone huddled inside? Was there a eting or an intimate gossip session or did soone find money?
None of the people inside, including the interns and just said anything.
Their eyes were fixed on a patient. Tang Yuxin ca forward and found sothing wrong imdiately. There were so many people around him, but he still didn’t wake up. He seed almost lifeless.
Without uttering a word, she stord over and took the patient’s pulse. Moreover, she didn’t hestitate to imdiately take so action.
“Wake up…” she lightly tapped on the patient’s face, but there was no response from him, he didn’t wake up.
She unbuttoned his shirt and gently pressed on his stomach.
“Where’s the duty doctor?” she turned around and asked the nurses standing around.
“Dr.Wang and Dr. Li are busy with ergency cases,” a nurse hurriedly replied.
“Isn’t there another on-call doctor today?” Tang Yuxin thought. In such a big hospital, there was always more than one on-call doctor at night, it was impossible that she was unable to find one.
“Dr.Zhang said he went to get so stuff and hasn’t returned yet.”
“Contact them now.”
Tang Yuxin continued checking the patient’s abdon.
After a few monts, she told the nurses, “Get ready for surgery imdiately.”
“Surgery?” Li Jia was taken by surprise. “What kind of surgery?”
“Large gastric bleed,” Tang Yuxin stood up without showing any sense of urgency. But Li Jia was frightened by the term “large gastric bleed,” and feared for her patient’s life.
“Let’s do a gastric ultrasound first to be sure,” Tang Yuxin tied her hair up, realizing a surgery seed inevitable.
Several nurses had already left to prepare for the surgery.
The equipnt for abdominal ultrasound was wheeled in and the result was exactly as Tang Yuxin had predicted. The bleeding was severe, the loss of blood quite substantial.
The situation was increasingly dire. If surgery was not perford imdiately, lives could be in danger.
