Chapter 396: Chapter 389: Fetching Scriptures
She placed the dicine down and then proceeded to the dean’s office. The dean had the surna Zhu. He was not that old, probably in his early forties. He was impeccably dressed in a suit, overlaid with a white lab coat. Even the lab coat was worn immaculately, clean and tidy.
“Dr. Xiaotang, please, have a seat.”
The dean gestured towards the sofa, inviting Tang Yuxin to sit.
Tang Yuxin sat down. However, she seed rather rigid and on-edge. Nervous, perhaps?
It couldn’t be helped. In the past, she had considered the dean of the hospital as an unattainable figure. Despite them both holding the title of ‘Dean’, the status was quite different from other designations.
But, why had he invited her here? Had she made a mistake sowhere? She began to rack her brains – had she recently made any mistakes? But it didn’t seem like she had. She had always been cautious, focusing largely on her work and speaking very little.
Maybe they think she ate too much?
“Dr. Xiaotang, are you comfortable living among the doctors?” asked Dean Zhu with a gentle smile.
But regardless of his friendly deanor and tone, Tang Yuxin could still perceive an underlying sharpness in his gaze.
“Yes, very,” she answered, squeezing her hands together on her lap. Her back was soaked with cold sweat, as was her forehead.
“No need to be afraid,” reassured Dean Zhu.
He must have sensed Tang Yuxin’s anxiety, “There’s nothing to worry about. I just wanted to know if you are finding the food here satisfactory?”
At this, Tang Yuxin’s heart skipped a beat. As feared, they were blaming her for eating too much. She was used to this diet from her school days – every al was carefully balanced. It wasn’t too much – just varied. If they asked her to eat less, she wouldn’t feel satisfied.
“I’m sorry, Dean,” she apologized, bowing her head. “I apologize for any inconvenience. I will try to eat less from now on.”
Dean Zhu was mid-sip and suddenly choked on his water, which he promptly spat out. Fortunately, he chose the wall as his target and not Tang Yuxin’s face.
He quickly set down his cup, in sowhat of a disgrace, and reflexively brought a hand to his forehead.
“Dr. Xiaotang, you are free to eat as much as you wish. I can’t possibly dictate your al intake,” he said, trying to suppress a half-laugh half-sigh. He wondered what she was thinking.
So, it turns out they weren’t upset with my eating habits, realized Tang Yuxin, clenching her fingers in relief. She had misunderstood.
“Also…” Dean Zhu continued speaking, “The card that you use belongs to Gu Ning, and he has never limited your als.”
Tang Yuxin’s grip tightened on her hands. However, when he checks the card, won’t he be stunned by the amount of money she’d spent? Would he start thinking she was a glutton?
Could she recharge the card? If so, where?
Of course, Dean Zhu was unaware of the turmoil unfolding in Tang Yuxin’s mind. He continued to explain the hospital’s situation and advised her to familiarize herself with the environnt. So, after graduation, she could co straight here and start working as a doctor. He also ntioned that a single occupancy room had been arranged for her in the hospital’s accommodation.
It was a sha because their train of thoughts didn’t align. Tang Yuxin was preoccupied and didn’t realize that she already had a secure job waiting for her upon graduation, with the hospital.
After she left, several doctors arrived at the dean’s office. They were orthopedic and surgical specialists from the hospital.
“Dean, may I ask, how did Dr. Xiaotang manage to save Mr. Huang’s legs?” Given the circumstances at that ti, it seed impossible to save Mr. Huang’s legs.
The orthopedic doctor was puzzled. He had been the one to examine Mr. Huang at the ti, and his initial reaction was that the legs were beyond saving. The flesh on the legs was nearly nonexistent, revealing the bare, broken bones underneath.
Yet, sohow, those legs were saved. He had checked multiple tis, Mr. Huang’s legs were undeniably in steady recovery. The legs had been saved miraculously and the skin was regaining its color at a slow yet promising rate.
This was sothing he had never seen before. A dical miracle.
The surgical doctor affird his confusion. What exactly did Dr. Xiaotang do?
“You can ask her.” Dean Zhu continued writing, glancing at the curious doctors. So had been practicing dicine for over a decade, while others were quite new. Regardless, if they were at this hospital, it ant they were top-tier skilled doctors with noble character. However, every field needs fresh faces.
As ti passes, dical developnts would quicken. Diseases once deed incurable might one day have their redies. This was a prospect they yearned for, and they were all striving towards it.
The orthopedic doctor sighed, “I wanted to ask, but we don’t know her very well.”
The other doctors who ca seeking advice agreed. The young lady wasn’t too talkative. They were afraid to approach her, in case their enthusiasm frightened her. On the other hand, they didn’t want to appear cold and risk her thinking they were bullies.
So, they had no choice but to co to the dean for advice, hoping he could share so wisdom.
“No need to rush. You’ll familiarize yourselves. She’s a new doctor we’ve recruited. She’s still studying though. We thought it would be good for her to intern here and get used to the environnt. Also, you lot, don’t bully her. You are the senior ones here.”
Chastised by the dean, the doctors felt unjustly accused. They wouldn’t possibly bully the newcors. They didn’t even dare to start a conversation with her.
Dean Zhu stood and walked over to a X-ray film. It was Mr. Huang’s. Just as the orthopedic doctor had said, if Dean Zhu himself had to perform the surgery, the final decision would have been amputation because the situation was too critical. Not amputating the legs could have risked Mr. Huang’s life.
Yet, in the end, Tang Yuxin managed to save Mr. Huang’s legs.
