Chapter 152: Learning to put on makeup is easy

Xu Qing was at a loss for words.

If she were a noblewoman holding an embroidery needle or a maidservant, she might cry or even support the idea of him taking multiple wives. But she was a female bandit—or rather, to put it nicely, a lady knight.

Roaming the martial world, repaying kindness and exacting revenge was the norm. Before she touched his leg, she still had a chance to regret it. Back then, she still rembered his kindness, and her understanding of relationships was naïve. She needed a bit of liquid courage to kiss him. Later, though, things were clear—she kissed him, bit his tongue, touched his feet, and played with his legs. Regret was no longer an option.

In Jiang He's heart, this probably equated to an engagent.

“It’s still too early to say too much. People's thoughts change constantly, especially yours. You seem to change every day.”

As they spoke, the two of them arrived by the riverbank again. They stood by the shore, looking at the brightly lit buildings across the river. Xu Qing slipped an arm around Jiang He's waist. Her body tensed for a mont before she silently leaned closer to him.

“When it cos to this, I really don’t want you to beco like modern people. But you will, eventually. What happens then, no one can say. It's like my ex-girlfriend. We also said we wouldn’t break up, though we didn’t promise to the death or anything like that—don’t glare at . In any case, it’s all about fate. You’re different. What you’ll beco in the end…”

Xu Qing turned to look at Jiang He in the faint light of the night. “The beauty of the future lies in the fact that no one knows what will happen.”

He couldn’t predict Jiang He’s future. At first, he thought he could teach her, but her ability to adapt and learn had far exceeded his expectations. Although she sotis seed a bit dim, it was just the clash of two eras' worldviews montarily confusing her.

“The future... is fine just like this,” Jiang He said firmly, gazing at the shimring river surface. “So things won’t change.”

“That’s not certain. I’ve been changing too. Before you ca, I never got out of bed before nine in the morning.”

“I’m just learning,” Jiang He countered. “Building good habits, learning new things. How would that change ?”

“Won’t it?”

“Will it?”

“You kissed by the roadside,” Xu Qing pointed out.

“…”

Jiang He froze, speechless for a long while.

“If you think about it, you lived in that era for over a decade, but the amount of information you absorbed there might not compare to what you’ll see in two years here. The environnt shapes people.”

“I’ve changed to make you like more, haven’t I?” Jiang He looked away as she spoke.

After all, these things—kissing, and whatever else—weren’t inherently her. Weren’t they all things Xu Qing had taught her?

“Exactly. So we won’t break up. You don’t need to worry about one day needing to beat to death,” Xu Qing chuckled.

Although he couldn’t see Jiang He’s expression clearly in the dark, he could easily imagine her blushing.

Holding her waist and pulling her closer, Xu Qing felt the strands of her hair, blown by the wind, brush against his face. Unable to resist, he lowered his head to rub his face against hers. “Whatever happens in the future, just cherish the mont.”

“Want a kiss?” he asked.

“Here?” Jiang He hesitated.

“No one’s around. It’s dark. Even if soone were here, they wouldn’t see us.”

Jiang He glanced around and then at Xu Qing. She had to admit, he made a compelling point.

The riverside night was deep, the two figures embracing each other. In the gentle night breeze, they tested each other’s boundaries, not for stability but out of genuine affection.

Xu Qing wasn’t a saint, nor was he so lecherous scoundrel. He was just an ordinary guy, holding his girlfriend, his hand resting lightly on her waist. The short jacket she wore barely covered her shirt beneath.

As for the future, overthinking was pointless. So things required planning, like her identity issues. Others didn’t.

Whatever gift the river of ti brought, it couldn’t be too bad. He feared Jiang He might drift away with ti, but fear wouldn’t stop change. All he could do was his best.

When they returned ho, it was already past ten. Jiang He carried her little bag into the bedroom and pulled out a small plush bear she had received from a barbecue outing. She had punched it countless tis, and it remained unscathed. She no longer punched it now. With two bears side by side, the more she looked at them, the more she liked them.

“Aren’t you going to shower?” Xu Qing asked as he erged from the bathroom, seeing her fiddling with the bears.

She opened her laptop to check on “Small Broken Site” and saw that Xu Wenbin, using his already-exposed alt account, had left a comnt threatening to unfollow if he posted any more cringe content.

The video in question was a compilation he made, showcasing Zhang Wuji transferring his martial arts to heal others—female characters always had to strip down, while male ones got away with a casual touch. Truly a masterstroke, leagues above Xu Qing.

Back in elentary school, Xu Qing rembered the school collecting fingernails for recycling. His family of three barely t the quota. Teaming up with Qin Hao, they even crafted fake nails from plastic bottles to et requirents. He still found it funny to this day.

“Back then, I envied i Chaofeng’s nails. Imagine scaring our teachers with those…”

“Why would you scare the teacher?” Jiang He held her pajama collar with one finger, wary of him standing behind her.

“Aren’t you curious who i Chaofeng is?”

“Fine. Who is she?”

“She’s a character from TV. Learned the Nine Yin Manual. When she unleashes her power, her nails grow super long. Let show you—give your hand.”

“No need.”

Jiang He didn’t move, her leg dangling off the chair. She stopped herself from sitting cross-legged, realizing she shouldn’t in pajamas. Perhaps she should wear pants under them? But then what was the point of the pajamas?

Lost in her own thoughts, her slipper fell to the floor with a clatter.

“Life would be easier if you were blind,” Jiang He muttered.

Xu Qing: "??"
