"Oh, Little Xiao Yun, why so aggressive? Afraid soone might find out you've been selling information to different groups… like the guards' rotation schedule?" Feng Fan infused his voice with spiritual qi, ensuring that everyone nearby heard him clearly.

Even those who had initially ignored the conversation suddenly perked up. While Seven Heavens City was lenient with minor extortion, like turning a blind eye to guards overcharging travelers, the sa couldn't be said for corruption that threatened the city's security or interests.

If Xiao Yun were caught, the lightest punishnt he could hope for was having his cultivation crippled.

Xiao Yun felt a cold shiver run down his spine. 'How does he know?!' he thought frantically. But years of experience allowed him to keep his expression unreadable, masking his panic behind an almost stoic face.

Too bad for him, no matter how well he concealed his emotions, he couldn't hide his thoughts from Feng Fan.

Whether Feng Fan truly had proof or was just spewing nonsense, Xiao Yun didn't dare take the risk. His instincts scread at him to eliminate the threat imdiately. "Since you're here to cause trouble… die!"

With a powerful swing, he sent his spear slicing through the air in a deadly arc, aiming to end Feng Fan's life in a single strike. He had already gauged his opponent's cultivation—Spirit Severing realm. Against his own Dao Seeking cultivation, this should have been effortless.

Too bad reality didn't match his expectations.

Just before the spear's tip reached Feng Fan, it slamd into an invisible barrier. The impact sent a violent recoil through Xiao Yun's body, causing his spiritual qi to run in reverse. His hands trembled, a sharp pain shot through his ridians, and he nearly lost his grip on his weapon. A strong urge to spit blood welled up in his throat, draining the color from his face

But what happened next shocked him even more.

Instead of standing tall and looking victorious, Feng Fan pretended to be injured. He staggered in the opposite direction from where Xiao Yun had struck, coughing up blood as he skidded several ters away, as if he had just taken a devastating blow. His face was white as a sheet of paper.

"T-This man is guilty!" Feng Fan shouted between ragged breaths, blood dripping from his lips. "He tried to kill to silence !"

Gasps erupted from the surrounding crowd. All eyes locked onto Xiao Yun, and seeing Xiao Yun pale made their confirmation easy—he was truly guilty!

Was there another reason to be pale than fear or worry? He clearly didn't suffer any attack from the young man in front of him, but it looked like he had taken a blow.

"Y-You! Stop spouting nonsense! If you can't prove it, shut up!" Xiao Yun ignored his injuries and snapped back. Seeing the situation escalate, he could only cling to the hope that Feng Fan had no real proof to back up his claims.

After all, this man hadn't even known his na monts ago. How could he possibly have any evidence?!

But as Feng Fan coughed, a faint smile—hidden by his hand—tugged at his lips. 'Ah, this fish was too easy to catch…'

"Oh? Then why don't we take a trip to your ho and check those records you hid? You know, those right under your bed, buried just a few ters underground," Feng Fan said casually, his voice laced with amusent. "You kept track of every deal you made, just in case you needed leverage to blackmail your clients and make a quiet escape one day."

The surrounding guards stiffened, their eyes narrowing at Xiao Yun with suspicion.

Xiao Yun's face drained of color. "T-This is nonsense!" he stamred, but the panic in his voice only made him sound guiltier.

The way he had reacted from the mont Feng Fan accused him had already sealed his fate.

"Who would've thought a Seven Heavens City guard could be so greedy?" soone in the crowd murmured. "Selling out his own people like this..."

At last, a man who appeared to be the commander of this garrison, and Xiao Yun's direct superior, stepped forward.

"There's no need for speculation. Since this man is so certain you have evidence hidden in your ho, why don't we go and take a look?"

The commander was an imposing figure, towering at nearly two ters with a broad, muscular fra. A thick beard covered his stern face, and his sharp eyes swept over the scene, radiating authority.

Xiao Yun's breath hitched. He knew that if they actually searched his ho, it would be the end for him.

"C-Commander Cheng! I've been a loyal guard for decades, how could I possibly do such a thing?! This man is clearly trying to tarnish my reputation! We should kill him now before he spreads more lies!"

But in his desperation, Xiao Yun failed to realize that his frantic protests only made him look even guiltier.

Commander Cheng sneered. "Whether it's true or false, that's for to decide."

With a sudden movent, he gripped Xiao Yun's arm, his fingers digging in just enough to make his authority clear. A slow, dangerous smile spread across his face.

"You're not planning to run, are you, Xiao Yun?"

Right then and there, Xiao Yun knew—his life in Seven Heavens City was over. He had only one option left: escape.

A sliver of hope flickered in his eyes as he rembered the escape talisman hidden in his spatial ring, a costly treasure he had acquired to use as a last resort. As long as Commander Cheng loosened his grip for even a second, he could activate it and flee.

He forced himself to relax, masking his panic. 'Just wait for the right mont…'

Just as he was about to deny Commander Cheng's question, a voice shattered his last hope.

"That's right, Commander Cheng, hold him tight. This fool actually thinks you're stupid. He's hiding an escape talisman in his spatial ring, just waiting for the chance to use it."

Xiao Yun's heart plumted. 'It's over. How does this bastard know everything?!'

Despair gripped him as cold sweat drenched his back. He had never wished so desperately to turn back ti—to never have provoked the monster standing near him.

His intestines were already green from regret.
