Seeing Cao Zhu collapse to the ground, coughing blood, his senior sister who participated in the Beast-Taming category with him rushed to his side.
"Junior Brother!" She exclaid, her voice laced with worry.
She retrieved a pill from her space ring and forced it down his throat, ensuring he swallowed it.
Elder Jiang, witnessing the scene, felt his blood pressure spike. His face turned a furious shade of red as he bellowed, "FENG FAN!"
He stord toward Feng Fan, his glare sharp enough to cut through steel. "What in the world do you think you're doing?"
Feng Fan raised his hands in innocence. "I was just trying to cheer him up! How was I supposed to know he'd take offense at being called a novel's extra? There are plenty of stories where extras are overpowered! I thought it was a complint!"
Elder Jiang's jaw tightened, his patience visibly thinning. "From this mont on," he growled, "keep your mouth shut!"
Feng Fan sighed in mock resignation, nodding solemnly.
'Kindhearted people like really have it rough...' he thought.
Yin Bao, who had already returned to the main plaza, addressed the crowd. "Alright, it's ti for the third category: Arrays. As with the previous two, each sect can send up to five participants. Step forward and enter the portal below ."
Unlike the earlier categories, where participants had to fly to specific locations inside the Dao Seeking School, a massive purple portal, about ten ters high, shimred into existence beneath Yin Bao.
Feng Fan's eyes sparkled at the sight. 'A man-made pocket dinsion? This Dao Seeking School really is sothing!'
Feng Fan stepped forward, his face radiating confidence. "It's ti for the—"
He paused mid-sentence, his eyes shifting to Cao Zhu, who was still sprawled on the ground, barely conscious after his earlier ordeal.
A brief wave of second-hand embarrassnt washed over him. With a resigned sigh, he muttered, "Never mind. Let's just get this over with," before striding toward the portal.
Behind him, four other disciples followed, all pre-selected by Elder Duan—Feng Fan's master, who hadn't attended the event.
As Feng Fan stepped into the portal, his surroundings blurred and shifted. For a breath of ti, nausea threatened to overwhelm him, but he managed to keep it under control.
'These portals are the worst! Can't they make them less disorienting?' he grumbled internally.
The participants found themselves in an open field, where the ground was covered with dry soil and patches of creeping grass stretching as far as the eye could see.
When Feng Fan's vision stabilized, the first thing he noticed was a young man with long hair hovering gracefully in mid-air before them. The man radiated confidence, his posture and expression suggesting he was used to having control over the situation.
"I am Gao Xiaobo, your judge for the Array category," the man announced. "The competition will be divided into two stages."
He gestured toward a red flag fluttering in the distance, about two kiloters away. A mischievous smile played on his lips as he continued.
"The first stage is simple. If you can successfully touch the red flag, you'll be teleported to the second stage. It doesn't get easier than that, right? You have twenty-four hours."
All the participants fixed their gaze on the distant red flag, their skepticism clear.
No one believed the challenge would be as straightforward as Gao Xiaobo claid. The easier he made it sound, the more they suspected hidden difficulties.
"Oh, and one more thing," Gao Xiaobo added with a sly grin. "Don't even think about flying. Those who try... well, let's just say they'll regret it. Any questions?"
When Feng Fan heard Gao Xiaobo's words, he quickly activated his spiritual qi vision, allowing him to assess the surroundings in detail. What he saw imdiately made everything clear.
'The ground is packed with tier 1 and tier 2 arrays, but the skies… the skies are swarming with tier 3 arrays!' he thought, his surprise evident. 'I've never seen so many arrays packed together in one place.'
In the Array Dao, breaking through a tier 1 array typically required the expertise of a tier 2 Array Master. To dismantle a tier 2 array without brute force, one had to be a tier 3 Array Master, and so on.
This ant the challenge on the ground was aid squarely at tier 2 and tier 3 Array Masters. As for the skies… they were clearly reserved for those skilled enough to contend with tier 3 arrays—an entirely different league.
Before Gao Xiaobo could officially start the competition, Feng Fan shot his hand up and shouted, "I do!"
This was the first ti since the start of the Young Generation Competition that anyone had dared to ask the judges a question.
Elder Jiang, who had been watching from the main plaza, felt his stomach churn. His face turned pale as beads of sweat ford on his forehead.
'No! Not you! Feng Fan!' he scread internally, already dreading what was about to happen.
'Every ti this brat opens his mouth, nothing good ever cos out of it!' He thought.
"Oh?" Gao Xiaobo turned to Feng Fan, his curiosity piqued. "What is it, young man?"
Feng Fan stepped forward, his tone casual but with a hint of provocation. "If I manage to pass through the field by flying over it, will there be an additional reward?"
The question hung in the air for a mont before Gao Xiaobo burst into laughter. 'What kind of fool would ask such a thing?' he thought.
"There's no reward because it's impossible for any of you!" he declared, his expression mocking.
Feng Fan shook his head, sighing dramatically. "What a pity. So the Dao Seeking School doesn't encourage its disciples to push their limits? I suppose I'll just settle for the easiest route then. No real challenge, no excitent… How disappointing." He let out another exaggerated sigh, his face painted with false disappointnt.
A vein visibly throbbed on Gao Xiaobo's forehead. "Easiest route?!"
As the one who had painstakingly designed the challenge, Gao Xiaobo felt a surge of indignation. This was a blatant insult to his work!
