Chapter 1387: A Change Of Plans
The entire city could still feel it, that heavy, low rumble running through the earth like the aftershock of a quake. It wasn’t loud anymore, just a dull vibration beneath their feet, but it lingered. Unsettling. Ominous. Still, not everyone knew where the disturbance was coming from.
Everyone except the Werewolves.
With their heightened senses and sharpened instincts, they had known from the mont the tremors began. The epicenter of the chaos, the eye of the storm, was none other than the castle itself.
“Is Lupus testing sothing that we don’t know about?” Slit asked, his ears twitching as he scanned the horizon.
“Testing sothing to the point that it would damage the castle?” Galark replied, frowning deeply. “No. He would never do sothing like that. Not Lupus.”
“If that’s the case,” Ghost said, clenching his fists, “then we need to get there fast and help him as soon as possible!”
“Wait, Ghost,” Galark interrupted sharply. “You’re faster than all of us. You should go and get Ylva. If the threat is as serious as I’m starting to think it is, we’ll need her. She’s the only one who can help bring out what’s really needed in Lupus.”
He turned his gaze toward the castle, his jaw tightening. “And I’m pretty sure this threat is a big one.”
Galark was ready to move. His entire posture scread urgency. But before he could leap forward, he turned and looked back at the other Werewolves.
“Luzen,” he said firmly. “You should stay with the rest of the pack. I’ll go with Slit. Make sure nothing happens to the others.”
Luzen nodded solemnly. He didn’t argue. He knew better.
Without wasting another mont, Galark and Slit both transford. Their bodies shifted and expanded, bones cracking as fur spread rapidly across their skin. In an instant, they had dropped onto all fours.
They ran, powerful limbs tearing across the earth, claws sinking into soil and stone as they built up montum. Every few strides, they would leap, long, soaring jumps that carried them across the ground in bursts of speed and strength.
It didn’t take long before they reached the base of the castle.
From where they stood, the ancient fortress lood above them. But it was no longer the unshakable structure of pride and tradition it had once been.
Now it looked vulnerable. Broken.
They paused only briefly to assess the situation. Should they scale the outside wall and head straight to the throne room? Or should they search inside, floor by floor, to find out what had happened?
Galark was just about to move forward when the castle shook violently once more.
The entire foundation trembled, and then,
An explosion.
A violent burst of energy erupted outward, shattering windows, sending bricks and stone flying in every direction.
The very base of the castle, the thick, ancient bricks and carved stone that had stood for centuries, began to collapse. Cracks split through the structure like lightning, and then, right before their eyes… the castle started to fall.
It was happening.
The historical monunt, the one that had withstood generations of war and ti, was crumbling.
Werewolves across the city who weren’t at the ruins looked up toward the cliff where the castle had stood. They saw the falling rubble, the smoke and dust rising in clouds. So pointed in disbelief. Others stood frozen, hands over their mouths in horror.
A great disaster had once fallen upon the city. And now, it felt like it was happening all over again.
At the center of it all, amidst the settling rubble and debris, stood a single massive figure.
He towered above the wreckage, his foot planted firmly on sothing beneath him.
It was Lupus.
There was blood dripping from his head, forming small rivulets down his face. He was no longer in his Werewolf form. His body lay motionless under the weight of the one standing above him.
And that one…
Looked like a complete monster.
“I was worried that you might be in the sa state as him,” the towering figure said.
It was Unzoku.
“You are clearly powerful,” he continued, speaking as if this was a casual conversation. “Maybe one of the Werewolves who has managed to gather the strongest power in history. In a way, I’m quite proud of you. You amassed a rather large group… but thankfully, you were not like him. I was able to restrict you with my powers just a bit.”
Lupus had felt it during the fight, sothing strange.
Sothing unnatural.
It was as though his body hadn’t been entirely under his control. When he swung his fists or tried to dodge, it all ca too late.
Everything was delayed.
His movents were sluggish, and he didn’t know why. It was like fighting inside a nightmare, where you scream and swing, but nothing lands.
His body simply wouldn’t listen to him.
It made the fight nearly impossible.
Still, Lupus gritted his teeth. He kept going, again and again, refusing to back down. Even with whatever curse had infected his body, even as his strength waned, he fought on.
But this was the end result.
“Recently, I’ve used up a lot of power,” Unzoku said, almost casually. “So I couldn’t use it all just to restrict you. I had to actually fight you myself. Just the thought of that… it’s making a bit sick.”
Sohow, Lupus managed to lift his head.
Blood sared across his forehead, but he forced his eyes open.
With what strength he had left, he moved both of his hands and grabbed Unzoku’s leg.
“You talk a lot of crap for claiming to be the first Werewolf,” Lupus grunted. “If you’re really the one who made us all like this… and if that’s the case… then don’t you want to see us thrive? Why would you do this?”
Unzoku didn’t flinch.
“Do you tell the ants on the ground why you stepped on them?” he replied coldly. “There’s no need for to tell you anything. All that’s left now… is for you to do my bidding.”
Then, the large hand of Unzoku ca down and covered Lupus’s entire head.
Dark energy began to flow.
Power surged between them, and Lupus’s body convulsed.
His muscles tensed. Veins bulged across his arms and neck. His legs kicked violently. His back arched.
And then,
Stillness.
His body froze entirely.
Monts later, Slit and Galark reached the scene. They scanned the area, eyes searching for danger, but all they saw was Lupus…
Standing alone.
Wounds still fresh across his body.
“Slit,” Galark said quickly, “you search the area. If there’s anyone nearby, track them. No matter who it is. Even if they’re part of our pack. Find them and bring them to .”
Slit nodded and vanished into the shadows.
Galark slowly approached Lupus but didn’t co too close. Sothing felt off. Sothing was wrong.
“Is everything okay?” Galark asked. “Who was it that attacked us? Do you need to call soone for help?”
Lupus didn’t turn his head. He simply stared into the distance.
“Everything is fine,” he said. “I can just see things more clearly now.”
He paused.
“Call everyone for a eting. There’s been a change of plan.”
