Chapter 1366: Learning Qi (Part 3)
Kanu, given the position he held within the White Rose, often had to oversee the new recruits. However, he wasn’t exactly used to teaching them how to wield weapons.
His job wasn’t to turn them into master swordsn or expert fighters. Instead, he was there to guide them in using their new forms.
When soone turned into an Altered, more often than not, they didn’t get to choose what Altered form they received.
And because of that, a lot of conflicting things would happen. The fighting styles they’d trained in before didn’t always match with what their new bodies were capable of.
That was where Kanu ca in. His role was to help them fight naturally with their Altered forms. In the end, that’s what would make them stronger.
But when Kanu saw Gary struggling, it felt almost like the opposite problem. Gary was more used to fighting in his Werewolf form, now, he was forcing himself to rely on a weapon.
“Wait, you’ve figured out a way for to use the weapon? How?” Gary asked, practically bouncing with excitent.
“To be honest, I think you’re pretty lucky,” Kanu replied, a small smile tugging at his lips. “This will only work because of the weapon you have. And technically… it’s not really about teaching you how to use the weapon.”
As he spoke, Kanu extended his hand.
“Can you pass your warhamr for a second?” Kanu asked.
Gary complied, handing over the heavy weapon. It surprised Kanu how much weight the thing had, no wonder Gary was struggling with it.
Although, with Gary’s strength, “struggling” probably wasn’t the right word.
“Any weapon, be it a sword, a warhamr, or a bow, takes years to master,” Kanu explained. “Unless you’re incredibly talented with a particular weapon, or your Altered form helps you learn it in so way, you’ll always be at a disadvantage using it.”
He locked eyes with Gary.
“I’m not telling you to give up. Keep learning how to use it. But from what I understand, you need to figure this out quickly, right?”
As Kanu took several steps back, all eyes were locked on him. They were ready, expecting him to demonstrate so new movent or technique for Gary to copy.
Instead, the next words out of his mouth left everyone blinking in surprise.
“Now, make the weapon go away,” Kanu said.
“What?”
“I an, send it back to your earring.”
Though confused, Gary complied. The warhamr dissolved into energy, returning to its resting place as an earring.
“Now, summon it,” Kanu commanded.
Again, Gary obeyed. The warhamr materialized instantly in his hands.
“The trick only works because of the nature of this particular weapon,” Kanu said. “No matter what position you’re in, what you’re doing, or how far away the hamr is, when you summon it, it appears in your hands.”
“Ah!” Xin suddenly jumped up from the floor. “Now I get it!”
But Gary didn’t. Not yet. He was starting to wonder if this was going to be another situation like before, where everyone else understood, or learned Qi, while he struggled alone.
“I’m telling you to attack as you normally would,” Kanu continued. “Swing down with your hands. Fight just like you have been. And when you want to use the weapon, just summon it.”
Gary’s eyes lit up instantly. He couldn’t wait to put it to the test.
Without hesitation, he rushed forward, pretending an opponent stood in front of him. He swung his arm wide.
He didn’t overthink it, he simply moved as he always did. In the middle of the motion, the warhamr appeared mid-swing.
A powerful gust of wind burst out from the impact, strong enough to sway even the distant trees, bending them slightly before they snapped back upright.
Gary quickly de-summoned the weapon from his hands, then crouched down and leapt into motion.
He used Lethal Pounce, transforming only his legs, bounding side to side. Then, as he launched toward his imaginary opponent, he summoned the warhamr above his head and brought it crashing into the ground.
The impact created a massive crater and sent tremors through the area.
It was just a small tip, but it gave Gary the ans to finally incorporate the weapon into his arsenal.
I’m still thinking about it, Gary thought. But if I can stop overthinking, I’ll be able to use the weapon’s effects when I need them. Even with the effects before trying to use the warhamr was still making weaker then if i was just to transform.
I can’t master the warhamr in just a few days… so this is the next best thing, and I’ll be able to use it in all forms.
As ti went on, Gary continued practicing the thod. He pushed himself to make the summoning seamless, testing to see if there was any delay.
Surprisingly, it felt like the more he needed the warhamr, the quicker it responded, almost as if it was complying with his will.
When Innu recovered, Gary planned to return to training with him. As Innu had suggested, Gary no longer needed to focus on stopping his transformation, he already had control of two of his hands.
Now, he needed to concentrate on building Qi in his hands.
If he succeeded, he would unlock the warhamr’s true power, adding it to his own. After all, most of Gary’s strongest attacks originated from his hands, even in his Werewolf form.
So he agreed with Innu, this was the best path forward.
Finally, after intense focus, Gary clenched a fist filled with energy, without Innu’s guidance this ti, and slamd it into the ground.
A surge of powerful energy spiraled out around him.
“I did it… I learned how to use Qi!” Gary shouted.
