Although Blackjack had already warned the group of the mistreatnt they might get, and Kai had explained why it might be the case, what Gary and the others didn’t quite expect was for Blackjack to get the sa treatnt.
Although, Gary didn’t notice it before, but when getting changed just before arriving, he had noticed five stars that were tattooed near the bottom of his ankle.
He hadn’t seen it when they were in prison together, so it was either sothing that was added on whenever he went to these etings, or sothing that was covered up while in the underground prisons.
He couldn’t imagine a bunch of Altereds taking too well that there would be an Altered hunter in there with them.
So seeing that Blackjack must have been treated as a five-star hunter, one of the top-ranked hunters, he thought he would have had more respect, instead it looked as if they were also a little unfriendly to him as well.
“You were inford about this from the other head Altered hunters that I would be coming, along with three apprentices, so there shouldn’t be any problem, right?” Blackjack asked with a stern voice.
Kim, along with the other three were a few ters back, and they could see that all around fifty Altered hunters were quite interested in the commotion that was taking place.
Kim then leaned in to explain to the others.
“Rember the three here, and that’s all you really need to rember,” Kim introduced. “All of them are five-star hunters, skilled at what they do, and they are not part of the settlent.”
Now the others were starting to find out how handy it was having a codeword that could just be said in the open like so. Giving everyone context without the need to worry if there are those that overhear.
Making Gary think what secret word they could use for their group. Since Howlers referred to everyone and not just the pack.
“Saiber, is the man with the goatee that is standing in front of Blackjack, he’s the one in charge of this mission. By his side there is Pluto, the bald-headed man who apparently used to be a mber of the Dark Guild, so he knows a few things.
“And then there’s Trixie, she has a deeper hatred for Altered than anyone I’ve seen. It’s not just a simple cause, so she’s the most careful you have to be in front of.”
The three of them made note of their appearances and planted them in their mind. In Gary’s mind it was inevitable if trouble occurred their cover would eventually be blown, but as long as they achieved the mission it would be fine.
What they didn’t want is for their cover to be blown in front of these three and making a new enemy on the way back of trying to get out of the place.
“You know the situation back then, you know where I ended up, and why I have recently co back. You can’t use that against for what happened back then, I didn’t abandon the mission,” Blackjack answered.
Saiber just nodded as he heard Blackjack talk, and even had a dismissive look on his face.
“Right, right, and at the end of it, you ended up in the Altered prison. It was never really explained why they had placed you in there, how you’re still alive and survived. Although you passed the Altered serum test, there are ways to trick it or avoid it.
“So let’s put it simply, I don’t trust you fully regardless of what those at the top say, and one thing is clear as well this is our operation you are to be treated the sa as a four-star, so you better listen to everything I say.”
Blackjack was tempted, extrely tempted to use so of his powers right here and now to force Saiber to do sothing, but there were too many people watching, which was a plus and a negative in Blackjack’s mind.
Saiber then walked past Blackjack and walked over to where Kim, and the others were.
He looked at them, the body shape of each of them, and just how they were generally stood.
“I know this operation is an important one, but did they really think that three apprentices would make such a difference?” Saiber shook his head. “If anything, we will be worse off with them.
“I can’t allow anyone that will slow this group or the operation down. We need to test them.”
“Seriously?” Blackjack complained turning around. “We don’t have all the ti in the world, we could be scouting Ruin City, or coming up with a plan.
“Besides, they are mine and Kim’s apprentices, we can vouch for them, we wouldn’t have brought them if we didn’t think they were skilled enough.”
“Exactly?” Saiber replied turning his head around and pointed his finger right at the chest of Blackjack. “These are your apprentices and what did I just say, I don’t trust you. So I can’t trust your word in saying that.
“All three of you, will have to prove yourself in battle against Pluto.”
‘Against the ex Dark Guild mber?’ Gary thought. If they were going up against one of the other Altered hunters sure, but to go up against a five-star hunter, just how much strength were they ant to show?
“I will be evaluating all three of you, and if a single one of you isn’t up to my standard, then I will be sending you back to whichever town you ca from.
“So out of all of the weapons here, pick one, and get ready."
