"I see, then have you two not had lunch yet? If you don’t mind, you can eat at my place," Li ixiang said to Song Yan Ning and Qin Yushen, taking quite a liking to them and wanting to keep them around a little longer to chat.
"Sure!" Song Yan Ning nodded and followed Li ixiang into the courtyard, where every plant and tree remained unchanged, as if nothing at all had shifted.
Song Yan Ning looked at the table and chairs under the tree where her grandparents often held her and told her stories when she was a child. It all felt as if it had happened only yesterday, yet she could no longer call them grandma and grandpa.
Qin Yushen gently patted Song Yan Ning on the shoulder. He understood Xiao Ning’s feelings as this was where she had lived for over a decade, and she had deep affection for her grandparents.
"ixiang, I’m back," Yang Lisheng walked in with a dicine chest on his back. Seeing Song Yan Ning and Qin Yushen, he seed surprised, "Who are they?"
"They ca looking for soone but didn’t find them. I saw it was noon and invited them to our house for a al," Li ixiang smiled.
Yang Lisheng nodded, put the dicine chest on the table inside the house, and then ca back out.
"Old Yang, how’s Liu Zi’s wife doing?" Li ixiang had Song Yan Ning and Qin Yushen sit in the main room while she went into the kitchen to bring out the als.
"Much better, with so more recuperation she’ll be fine," Yang Lisheng washed his hands and ca into the main room, sitting opposite Song Yan Ning and Qin Yushen, "Young man, want a drink?" He had brewed several jars of dicinal wine, and they were about ready to drink.
"Sure!" Qin Yushen usually didn’t drink, but today was an exception. Because after today, he would never have another chance to drink with Grandpa Yang.
Yang Lisheng nodded with a smile, "I just happen to have a few jars of dicinal wine I’ve brewed; I’ll go get them." He stood up, feeling an odd sense of déjà vu, as if, a long ti ago, he had sat down to a al with Qin Yushen and Song Yan Ning.
"I’ll get it," Song Yan Ning said and had already stood up to go out.
"Let get it, you don’t know where the wine is," Yang Lisheng followed her but only took a few steps before he saw Song Yan Ning carrying a jar of dicinal wine back in, "How did you find the wine?" While the place he stored the wine was not exactly hidden, it wasn’t imdiately obvious either.
Song Yan Ning was montarily startled; she had instinctively gone to help her grandpa with the wine, forgetting that he no longer rembered her, "My grandpa used to store his wine in the sa place as you do."
"Oh, is that so? No wonder you could find the wine. Did your grandpa like to drink too?" Yang Lisheng took the wine and poured a cup for himself and Qin Yushen.
"My grandpa liked to make his own dicinal wine with Chinese herbs, just like you. But he drank it sparingly," Song Yan Ning sat down next to Qin Yushen, smiling at Yang Lisheng. Although dicinal wine has health benefits, it is still alcohol, and too much is not good.
Yang Lisheng chuckled, "That really is a coincidence. By the way, I still don’t know your nas."
"Grandpa Yang, my na is Qin Yushen." Qin Yushen took the wine cup.
"I’m Song Yan Ning." Even though she knew Yang Lisheng wouldn’t rember the na, Song Yan Ning still harbored a sliver of hope that her grandpa would recognize it.
"Song Yan Ning?" Yang Lisheng thought for a mont, "I have two granddaughters, their nas are similar to yours, but they live in Beijing."
"Co on, let’s eat, don’t just talk," Li ixiang, carrying freshly cooked sweet and sour ribs, ca out. She rarely made sweet and sour ribs, but seeing Song Yan Ning, she suddenly felt the urge to cook them.
