Chapter 314
"And what if they had fallen into the dark sea and been devoured by the Kraken instead?"
"...."
Ray nodded.
"That’s probable. But rember when I said that the gate won’t toss us in close proximity with another group?
Well, isn’t the dark sea close to Hill Valley and Bone Ridge? It is far too close for the gate’s liking, hence I conclude that those two are over here." The boy said, pointing directly at the X.
Van nodded along while examining the map with a deep, thoughtful expression, slowly rubbing his chin.
"I see the logic in what Ray is saying right now. He makes a solid point."
Kai stared down at the dirt map, then shifted his gaze back to the X.
"Now I wonder what the territory they have been thrown into actually houses. This entire world is just strange and twisted. Like a living nightmare."
"Agreed." Chloe nodded, lightly rubbing her arms as she shuddered at the mories of what they had already endured.
"But I’m still worried about one more thing," Van pointed out, lifting his eyes to scan the interior of the cave.
"Felix... he is a werewolf just like Ray, yeah?"
Kai nodded, matching his thoughtful look.
"Yeah, what about it?"
"Knowing that, and considering everything we know about werewolves, he definitely possesses a way to track Ray. He should be able to sniff him out, right?"
"Your point exactly?"
"My point is this. Despite the number of days we have spent stranded here, why hasn’t he tried to track Ray down?
He constantly calls him ’My Brother,’ yet he hasn’t thought of looking for him? This worries . What if he has encountered an obstacle that’s keeping him trapped there?"
"...."
Ray remained silent, his gaze dropping back down to the crude map before him.
’Yeah. That’s right. Just as I had marked Van, there’s no way Felix wouldn’t have thought of placing a mark on just in case.
Considering we have made physical contact a few tis, why hasn’t he used it to search for ? Is Van right? Did he encounter sothing dangerous over there? Or is sothing holding him back?’
Trisha shrugged indifferently.
"Whatever the issue is, it still doesn’t stop us from moving to the next region to find out."
"Hm? Worried about their safety?" Chloe asked, flashing a taunting smile.
Trisha shook her head, offering a blunt response.
"I couldn’t care less if they perish. All I care about is finding an escape route out of this place.
Think about it; there was no exit gate in Hill Valley, none in the dark sea, and there’s clearly none here. What if the exit gate is located in that region? Or perhaps the territory right after it?"
’Solid points. Well, aside from the part about not caring if they die,’ Ray mused inwardly, looking down at his hands and flexing his fingers a few tis.
’... But I’m still far from level thirty. I need to evolve before returning to Alcatraz. With the skeletal creatures giving zero experience points, this area is basically useless to .
We definitely need to move ahead to a zone with actual beasts that can grant the power I seek.’
Kai looked around at the group before chiming in.
"And none of you are taking into account the sheer amount of ti this journey might take. Even with sixteen hours of dayti, we might still struggle to cover this entire zone, let alone cross into the next.
I spent six whole days exploring just half of Bone Ridge. Putting that into calculations, it might take us at least two weeks to reach the next region."
"Don’t forget that you were exploring the terrain at night," Van corrected him.
"That’s eight hours of exploration per cycle. So with double that ti during the day, we should arrive in the next region in approximately a week."
Ray turned his attention back to Kai.
"You managed to cover half of this region?"
Kai nodded.
"Are there plenty of caves like this one that we can camp in?"
The handso youth nodded once more.
"And during that period, did you happen to encounter anything at least remotely different from these skeletal creatures?"
"No. Why?"
Ray looked at the ground in deep thought before replying.
"That ans the controller is further away."
"Controller? What does that an?" Chloe asked with a cocked brow.
Looking at the squad, Ray took in a deep breath then replied.
"These skeletal creatures here. They are oddly different from the normal beasts we are used to.
But at the sa ti, they follow a set pattern as if it was encoded deep within them. A pattern to rise as soon as the sun has set and fall as soon as the sun rose up."
"Okay? Where are you driving at?" Trisha asked.
"Doesn’t that remind you all of sothing? I an the way the creatures behave."
Kai thought for a few seconds then his athyst eyes lit up.
"Yeah. They do remind of zombies of so kind."
"Great. But they remind of the undead. I have read a lot of webnovels before and I’m sure.... No! I definitely know that there’s a controller sowhere in this region. A being or creature with the power to manipulate these skeletal entities." Ray finally declared.
"..."
"But then, a being capable of controlling thousands of these skeletal creatures is no easy prey and isn’t soone to be ssed with at all," Van blurted out.
"Hm. Exactly. But think about it; what if the controller is the guardian of this region? I an, doesn’t it irk you that no other beasts have made it to this region yet?"
The others thought about it deeply and still weren’t understanding where Ray was driving until the Tribrid asked a question:
"And what are the roles of guardians? Or the security of an area?"
Van’s eyes lit up instantly.
"To not allow anything or anyone to leave or enter at will. Just like the Kraken."
Lifting his hand like he had just dropped a mic, Ray nodded.
"Exactly. So our plans of escape could be thwarted now."
