Chapter 152: Too Late

Chapter 150

The second guard remained rooted to the spot, a silent spectator to the brutal clash between Ray and the other ta-human.

As he briefly scanned the wreckage of the laboratory, his expression darkened with a mixture of sha and confusion.

’We have lost far too many n battling re children. How is this even possible? Who—what kind of monsters are these?’

Before he could dwell on the absurdity of the situation any longer, a movent caught his eye.

Bryce!

The leader was frantically signaling for him to converge on his position.

The guard wasted no ti, rushing toward his employer and reaching his side within monts.

"All of you are utterly useless," Bryce hissed, his voice trembling with suppressed rage.

"But now is not the appropriate ti to berate your incompetence. We need to evacuate this facility imdiately before the Iron Corps descends upon us."

The ta-human shifted his weight nervously, his eyes darting toward the fallen.

"Bu-But what about the dead? Won’t they be linked back to us? I an, just one glance at their specialized armor and the authorities would know they belong to our faction. After all, we are the only group that moved on this location today."

Bryce scowled, his lip curling in a sneer as he pointed at the damaged device in his hand.

"Which is precisely why I will be leaving them all with one final parting gift. The overarching plan is the only thing that matters to us right now. Besides, even if those brats wanted to snitch, there’s no way the word of a few students would be believed without tangible, physical proof, right?"

Bang—!

The sudden, violent sound drew everyone’s attention.

They caught sight of the ta engaging Ray, his massive fist smashing into another concrete wall in a desperate, failed attempt to pin the boy down.

"Co on. We need to depart," Bryce urged.

He lifted his hand and slamd the weapon in his grip against a nearby console.

The structural crack Ray had dealt it earlier widened significantly, but the casing held firm.

Glaring at the guard standing before him, Bryce barked an impatient order.

"Well, what are you waiting for? Do it!"

Understanding exactly what the leader was hinting at, the ta-human imdiately channeled his super strength into a crushing blow.

The weapon’s exterior instantly crumbled into fragnts, revealing a small, pulsating orb hidden within the machinery.

The object was no larger than a pebble, yet it throbbed with a deadly, ominous intent.

A cold smile crept onto Bryce’s face as he stared at the glowing sphere.

’This is my goodbye gift to you kids. If you sohow manage to survive this, I promise to hunt you down afterward and finish what we started.’

Turning toward his remaining four guards, he commanded,

"Let’s move. We have exactly two minutes left before the device activates."

Without a hint of hesitation, the group turned and began sprinting for the exit, their heavy boots thudding against the marble.

Van, whose eyes had been fixed solely on Ray’s life-or-death struggle, reacted the mont he heard the retreating footsteps.

He whipped his head around, his face pale with realization.

"Shit! Stop them! They have a nuke with them—they’re going to use it for sothing evil!"

Hearing the sudden, frantic shout, Felix lifted his head to stare at the retreating figures.

Kai did the sa, his singular visible eye narrowing.

Neither of them was in the mood to question the validity of Van’s words.

The mont the term "nuke" reached their ears, they understood the gravity of the threat.

Even if Felix was unfamiliar with the technical specifics, Kai knew the history.

Nuclear armants had been strictly banned following the devastation of the first war.

Not even the prestigious Big Four Legacies held the legal right to manufacture one.

If Bryce truly possessed such a weapon, the consequences would be catastrophic.

Imdiately, the two boys surged to their feet and bolted after the fleeing n, who were already nearing the threshold of the exit.

anwhile, Ray remained locked in a fierce, rhythmic clash with the final guard.

A powerful roundhouse kick lashed toward his temple, but at the last microsecond, arcs of black lightning crackled around the boy’s feet.

With a loud, concussive bang, Ray propelled himself backward, instantly putting a distance of six ters between them.

The guard’s leg cracked through the empty air with a thunderous crash, missing its mark.

Without waiting for the man to reset, Ray unleashed a dozen obsidian claw slashes.

The energy blades whistled through the laboratory toward his opponent.

Fortunately for Ray, he wasn’t facing a speed specialist this ti.

Even though the guard attempted to weave through the assault, several of the slashes struck his torso, the dark energy denting the reinforced armor with every impact.

However, the man refused to slow down; instead, he continued to charge toward Ray at a steady, relentless pace, his eyes burning with a final, desperate resolve.

Instead of sending in more attacks, Ray remained rooted to the spot.

For the slightest of seconds, his dominant foot twitched.

His breathing stayed steady and calm while waiting for the ta to get close.

Which the man did—out of sheer fury.

The opponent was now within striking range.

The Aspirant wasted no ti in lunging forward with trendous speed.

His movents were being significantly boosted by his lightning ability.

This sudden burst caught the man totally off guard as now, Ray’s foot was arcing through the air completely unobstructed.

The ta was panicked for a brief second before a confident smile crept onto his face.

"Haha... you won’t be able to get past my armour, dumbass!"

Crack—!

Bang—!

"... I wasn’t aiming for it."

The man blinked in confusion when imdiately, a sudden white-hot pain shot across his leg.

He crumpled to the ground.

His weight was unable to be supported by the limb for so reason.

Staring downward, he realized the exact cause for this.

Ray had bashed his own leg into the ta-human’s crural region, shattering the bones and causing them to protrude out of his flesh, sticking out like broken sticks in wet mud.

"Aaaaaargh!" The ta-human’s voice tore through the room.

No amount of supernatural ability was able to prepare one for seeing their legs smashed as if they were nothing.

"Your voice makes my ears bleed so shut..."

Ray began as his leg swept upward and without warning, it bashed into the man’s larynx with the strength of a battering ram, shattering the whole thing totally and therefore cutting the guard’s scream off.

"... Up."

What Ray had just dealt to the man’s leg was a move unknowingly taught to him by Trisha.

The day they sparred, she had used that sa technique on almost all her opponents, including Ray.

The ability to shatter bones without your opponent knowing was the goal.

It seed basic if one saw it, but the execution was deeper than that.

The precision. The amount of strength needed behind that attack. And most especially, the speed.

Everything needed to flow seamlessly into each other.

Due to his ’Perfect and Absolute mory,’ he only needed to see or perform the action once to get it locked in.

When Trisha had initially used the technique, it was far too fast for him to grasp until he challenged her to a spar, getting her to use it on him instead before he finally got the hang of it.

The guard before him was still fuming visibly as he still tried to lunge at Ray.

Only for the Tribrid to swiftly dig his claws into the guard’s eyes, easily penetrating them.

With a rough pull, he gouged the eyes out, causing blood to spray into the air.

He lifted the eyeballs, which still seed to glare at him with intensity, towards his face for a mont before flicking his claws.

This allowed for them to slide off his grasp and land on the thighs of the guard before him.

The ta-human would have scread from that, but unfortunately, he couldn’t.

Then,

Crack—!

Plop—!

Ray moved, twisting the man’s neck roughly before allowing him to crash into the ground with a soft thud.

[n Defeated: 2/ 3]

Before he could calmly check the system, a loud beeping sound suddenly echoed through the room.

Simultaneously, Kai and Felix were now upon the retreating n.

But averting his gaze from that for a mont, his eyes landed on what was causing the beeping sound.

A small orb was pulsing in the room.

He didn’t need anybody to tell him what that was as his eyes widened in horror.

"VAN!" He scread and imdiately lunged towards his best friend in a desperate attempt to protect him from what was to co.

’Too late...’ Bryce grinned evilly as he let the guard with the Super strength deal with Felix and Kai while he was already out of the room with his guards who possessed the barrier ability.

BOOOOOM—!
