After school, at a supermarket, Dennis pushed a shopping cart through the aisles to shop for their monthly household needs. The cart was still empty because Dennis seed to be walking aimlessly; then he turned to look at Daisy, who appeared busy with her smartphone beside him. She was staring at her screen with a serious face, not looking at him at all, as if she didn’t care about what they were going to buy—even though she was the one who had invited Dennis to the supermarket.
Then, Daisy was seen typing rapidly on her smartphone screen, occasionally letting out a cynical smile. Naturally, Dennis, seeing his wife’s unusual behavior, stopped in his tracks along with the cart; coincidentally, Daisy also stopped walking, as if she had eyes on the side of her head that saw Dennis stop next to her. Dennis leaned his head over and peeked at Daisy’s screen; it turned out Daisy was chatting with Brad. He could see Brad saying thank you and asking where she got all the data, and Daisy was also seen sending a PDF in the chat.
Feeling annoyed that his wife was talking to Brad—soone he clearly didn’t consider a friend—Dennis looked directly at his wife beside him.
"Hey, why are you chatting with Brad?" Dennis asked directly in a calm voice.
"Oh... sorry honey, I’m giving Brad new data regarding Silas that was just obtained by subordinate number two and compiled by number four. Turns out Bella isn’t the only girl he’s cheating with; there’s a coworker who is also married, a nurse he t when he took his second child for dical treatnt, and a college student he t on a dating app. He promised all of them he’d leave his wife to be with them, including the promise he made to Bella," Daisy answered casually while typing a reply to Brad’s chat.
Then Daisy opened the PDF file and let Dennis read it. It turned out to be worse than Dennis had imagined; Silas was actually running four separate affairs, while his unsuspecting wife and children—who lived in the eastern district of Erald City—lived in poverty, waiting for Silas, who rarely ca ho. Silas used all his money to satisfy his mistresses, and on top of that, he was embezzling company funds to support his cheating.
"Whoa, it’s this bad?" Dennis asked, shocked.
"Yep, that’s why I passed it to Brad, and now it’s up to him what he wants to do with this extra data. Relax, honey, I don’t consider Brad a friend either; this is just business. But I’m sorry if it made you angry," Daisy answered, taking Dennis’s arm and looking up at him with her soft, elegant eyes.
After queuing at the checkout to pay and heading ho, suddenly "ding," a notification popped up on Daisy’s smartphone. Daisy checked it imdiately, her brows furrowing and her eyes narrowing as she saw a ssage from an unknown number. Dennis peeked at the screen of the smartphone while standing next to her. Daisy opened the ssage, and her face changed completely; she turned pale, her lips trembled, and her eyes widened as if they were about to pop out of their sockets.
Seeing Daisy’s face change and noticing her hand shaking so violently that her smartphone almost slipped from her grip, Dennis imdiately wrapped his arm around his wife and took the phone from her before it could fall.
"What’s wrong, honey?" Dennis asked anxiously.
Daisy didn’t answer. Dennis could feel her entire body trembling, so he imdiately pulled her closer with the arm wrapped around her, holding her tight against him. Daisy buried her face in Dennis’s chest, and he opened the ssage from the unknown number to read it.
"Hello Daisy, how are you? Aquamarine City is getting close to Erald City... I miss you, there’s so much I want to talk to you about. How is your mother doing? And how are you? Have you gotten married yet? You should be married by now since you’re seventeen, and I’m sure your body has beco even hotter than before, I really miss you."
Seeing the na of Aquamarine City written in the ssage, Dennis naturally knew what kind of place that do city was. It was a far cry from the Erald do, which was dedicated to military and military education; the Ruby do, specialized for business and entertainnt with every luxury available; the Onyx do, reserved for hunters since it sat at the center of darkness; and finally the Diamond do, designated as the law enforcent of the new world and a hub for technological research. The Aquamarine do was a city specifically for criminals—or, more accurately, it was a prison city. High-level criminals, psychopaths, and maniacs were all gathered there.
No criminal was ever executed; instead, they were cast away to Aquamarine City because humanity was on the brink of extinction. However, they were sentenced to Aquamarine for life, with no way out and no possibility of escape. Dennis’s heart was full of questions as he looked at Daisy, who was trembling and clinging to him, her hands gripping his clothes with incredible strength while her head remained buried in his chest. As he wondered, a voice spoke in his head,
[Master, all of your wife’s personalities inside their council room are trembling in their seats.]
"Huh... really? Who exactly sent this ssage?" Dennis asked Sami in his head, his voice burning with anger.
[Your wife’s adoptive father... the man who caused your wife to have seven personalities.]
Hearing Sami’s words in his head, Dennis looked at the screen of Daisy’s smartphone once more. He imdiately pulled Daisy into a tight embrace, drawing the attention of many people queuing with him at the checkout, though they didn’t say anything out of understanding. Suddenly, a holographic screen appeared and an alarm blared; the screen showed thermal images from a satellite where two do cities, appearing as circular heat signatures on the map, were passing each other in the darkness.
Right after, a governnt warning and announcent echoed, stating that the Erald do city was currently passing the Aquamarine do city. Once the announcent ended, everyone around Dennis began whispering and buzzing about what had just happened. Dennis looked at Daisy’s smartphone, then crushed it in his hand until it was destroyed, which made Daisy peek up.
"What are you doing, honey? Why did you destroy my smartphone?" Daisy asked with a trembling voice inside Dennis’s head using telepathy.
"After this, we’ll buy a new smartphone and a new number. I’ll notify our groups and let them know about this; I don’t want your adoptive father contacting you again," Dennis replied via telepathy.
Daisy went silent. She lifted her head to look at Dennis’s face above her; she smiled, but tears began to fall in streams before she buried her face back into his chest.
"Thank you... honey," Daisy said haltingly, sobbing even though she was using telepathy.
"Yeah, you’re with now, so no one will be able to bother you. Because you belong to now, and no one else," Dennis said through telepathy while stroking Daisy’s head.
"Yes... honey, I am yours. Forever, I will be yours," Daisy sobbed via telepathy.
Dennis pushed the cart forward as it was finally his turn at the register. He placed all the groceries on the counter to be scanned. After paying and grabbing their bags, he walked out of the supermarket, his arm wrapped around Daisy, refusing to let go. Once outside, Daisy briefly switched to Daisy Number Five to put all their groceries away, then she reverted to the primary Daisy, appearing a bit calr.
"I’m sorry, honey. That man can still reach . Later, when we’re close to Ruby City again, I need to talk to Mama," Daisy said, having composed herself slightly.
"But why is that man in Aquamarine City?" Dennis asked.
Daisy fell silent, then she hugged one of his arms and looked down at her shoes, as if at that mont they might give her the courage to face of her dark past and tell her husband about her history.
"He was arrested because he’s a criminal who killed many people, including my older sister... in Ruby City, and he almost killed Mom and too... he was sentenced by the court in Diamond City... I’m sorry, but maybe later I’ll tell you the details, right now I don’t want to rember it," Daisy said, looking down.
"Alright, I understand. Let’s go ho, honey, and before that, we’ll stop by the mall to buy a new smartphone for you," suggested Dennis, who didn’t want to pry any further because he understood it must be heavy for Daisy to dig up a past she had worked so hard to forget.
"Yes, thank you, honey," Daisy replied, smiling and looking up at Dennis.
"You’re welco. Let’s go before it gets too late," Dennis said, smiling back at his wife.
"Yeah," Daisy replied.
Dennis kissed Daisy’s forehead, then he wrapped his arm around her again and led her out of the supermarket complex to head to the mall to buy a new smartphone, tucking Daisy’s broken phone into his pocket.
