Chapter 189: Hungry And Thirsty
"If not for Khan, we’d be dead."
"Good thing Khan thought of every possible route and action. Otherwise, those guys from Dominion will be slitting our throats."
"What do you expect? This damn Dominion is full of crazy lads."
"Still, I find it weird that the boss wants us to take this job. It just doesn’t make sense to
at all! We’ve been doing this job for years now, but Dominion? It’s like a death wish."
"Does it have to make sense? I’m sure the boss will tell us once everything is done. We barely managed to escape those guys, and if not for Khan’s ticulous planning, we’d be dead. Just focus on the job we have right now."
Ashley’s head throbbed as her brows knitted, hearing faint voices around her.
A faint grunt escaped her closed mouth, forcing her eyes open. Her vision was blurry, her perspective tilted slightly. She blinked weakly until her vision grew clearer, catching three people across the room.
The three figures were seated on so crates and planks, with a small drum in the middle, eating instant noodles.
"Where did Khan go, by the way?" one of them wondered, and another shrugged.
"He’s probably reporting to the boss and handing out pay for those we hired to assist us."
Just then, the second speaker raised a brow. He turned slowly, catching Ashley on the floor, lying on her side, her eyes partially open.
"Ah," he straightened, resting an arm on his knee. "She’s awake."
Upon saying that, the other two turned their heads in the sa direction. One of them ran his tongue along the inside of his cheek, studying their hostage and thinking of Dominion.
"How the hell did this woman beco the madam of Dominion?" one of them wondered. "She doesn’t look like it."
They’d been watching Ashley from a distance, seen her checking so buildings in the city. As they did, they also noticed that the lady was quite simple in many ways. One wouldn’t think she was part of — or rather, the wife of — a dangerous man, if they had just t her outside.
Ashley moved her arms, only to realize she was bound. Her head still throbbed, but it began to ease a little.
"Who... who are you?" she asked, her voice hoarse.
"Knowing us is not your concern, Miss," one of them muttered, stabbing his chopsticks into the cup noodles. "Just don’t give us trouble, and you’ll be fine."
Ashley blinked weakly, watching as the guys resud eating and their idle conversation. This ti, about sothing completely different, as if they weren’t holding a person captive.
anwhile, Ashley studied the trio before looking around. The lamp on their makeshift table was the main source of light, along with the moonlight filtering through a broken window on the other side of the room.
"Where..." she trailed off, closing her eyes as she tried to shake the grogginess from her system. Whatever drug had gotten into her system was no ordinary sedative. It was potent.
With eyes closed, she breathed out slowly. "Where am I?"
"As we said, there’s no point in asking us questions," one of them replied without looking her way. "Just don’t be a headache if you don’t want to get hurt."
Slowly, Ashley opened her eyes and cocked her head at them. She opened her mouth, then shut it, swallowing hard. Her eyes lingered on the cup noodles in their hands, watching them slurp, her stomach grumbling.
"That’s..." she said quietly. "...my favorite."
The trio turned to her and furrowed their brows. She was eyeing their cup noodles before her eyes moved up to et theirs.
"Let’s just ignore her," one of them muttered. "She’s probably pretending —"
Just as he was about to convince the others, Ashley’s stomach let out a roar so loud they wouldn’t have believed it possible had they not heard it themselves. She pursed her lips with a frown.
"At least give
so water," she muttered. "I’m really hungry and thirsty."
The trio straightened, looking at her with equal disbelief before glancing at each other. After a mont, they all sighed.
*****
"Don’t get any silly ideas!" one of the guys warned, pointing a finger at Ashley’s face. "We’re going to feed you, but the second you try anything funny, you’re dead!"
Ashley pursed her lips, now sitting up in the corner. The ropes around her had been moved to her ankles, and the ones around her wrists were slightly loosened so she could eat. She nodded vigorously.
"I promise!" she said, nodding at the man crouching before her sincerely. "I will not do anything silly at all!"
The two guys standing nearby exchanged looks, then gazed at her again. The man crouching before her narrowed his eyes suspiciously.
"You better," he warned, keeping a firm front before sliding the cup noodles toward her.
Ashley smiled and dipped her head slightly. "Thanks."
She reached for the cup and chopsticks, her eyes gleaming, her face softening with appreciation.
"I thought I was going to starve to death," she murmured, glancing up at the three n. She flashed them a smile. "Thanks for the al!"
Then she started eating, slurping the noodles and hissing in satisfaction. The hot, spicy broth quickly ward her stomach, the lingering throb in her head fading now that she had sothing to digest.
Ashley reached for the bottled water and drank in large gulps, as if she hadn’t had a drop in days. Considering what she’d been doing before all this, she truly needed the hydration.
anwhile, the three guys could only shake their heads.
"She’s in this situation, but she’s got more appetite than she should," one of them murmured, watching her eat to her heart’s content. "This is new."
"Guess it’s not the first ti she got abducted?" the one beside him wondered, shrugging.
As for the man who had given Ashley the food, he stood with the other two and watched her with a conflicted expression.
"Did she starve or what?" the third muttered. "She eats... really well."
The trio just watched her, their guards lowering just a bit. She didn’t look like soone who would sche her way out. Although they didn’t completely rule out the possibility, they trusted their gut.
Ashley just had this harmless air about her. Considering her petite fra, what could this woman possibly do?
"By the way..." Halfway through her noodles, Ashley finally slowed down and looked up at them. "...how much are you asking from my husband?"
