Chapter 125: Five Years Left

Back in Dominion’s mansion...

Lucian narrowed his eyes, seated on the couch with his arm laid bare for his personal doctor, Doctor Wesley, to draw blood from.

His mind circled back to the ssage Ashley had sent him just hours ago. He had asked Gustav to confirm her situation with the n, only for Gustav to report that they were in the mall, crying. It ant she was fine... just as she said.

White Serpent...

His expression remained unchanged as he stared into nothingness.

From what he knew, so ti ago, White Serpent had just welcod their new big boss after the chaos of the new leader’s takeover. According to their intel, it seed the organization’s new don had stabbed the forr boss in the back.

Hence, the internal conflict within their ranks.

So supported the new don, while others deed his actions unforgivable. Obviously, those who opposed him were the ones loyal to the previous don.

Then again, this kind of power struggle—and the ending it brought for dons in their world—was natural.

It was not the first ti sothing like this had happened.

Dominion had its fair share of stories about ssy takeovers in the past, considering the organization had been around long before Lucian was born.

It seems White Serpent’s internal problem is already settled, he thought. How troubleso.

He tapped his fingertips against his side, deep in thought.

Lucian could deal with White Serpent, but he didn’t like the idea of an unnecessary bloodbath. Still, it was worth keeping an eye on them. After all, since White Serpent had welcod their new don, it was only natural for him to prove his worth and make a na for himself in the underground.

In other words, Lucian was not surprised that White Serpent was taking the high road.

However, I agreed with Mr. President and Tommy that Dominion will stay low-profile for now.

It was a bad ti to confront White Serpent.

Again, Lucian’s brows furrowed at the thought.

Did... they know that this is a bad ti for ? Is that why they deliberately left a trail behind, knowing I wouldn’t act excessively?

His lips curved downward, displeased by this conclusion. However, his gut told him it was the truth. The other party knew what was going on, and that was why they had the guts to pull off such a thing.

As Lucian sank deeper into thought, Doctor Wesley studied his side profile.

"Master," the middle-aged man said, breaking the silence. His thin-rimd glasses rested low on his nose as he carefully drew the syringe from Lucian’s arm, capped it, and then removed the rubber tourniquet from around Lucian’s upper arm.

Lucian blinked and looked at the doctor.

"How have you been, Master?" Doctor Wesley asked carefully, keeping his observant eyes on the big boss. "Have you been... sleeping well?"

"Did you find sothing wrong with my vitals?" Lucian asked instead of answering.

Doctor Wesley smiled. "So far, the other tests ca out all right. But I still need to send the samples for blood work."

"I see," Lucian nodded, pulling down his sleeve.

The doctor, however, kept his eyes on Lucian’s side profile. He had been observing him ever since he stepped into the room and began the regular check-up.

From what he noticed, Lucian’s complexion was... better. The dark bags under his eyes were slightly lighter than before. And from what the doctor had heard, Lucian had stopped smoking for a while now.

Lucian’s habits had always been one of Doctor Wesley’s concerns because they had been getting worse by the day.

Back then, Lucian wouldn’t even touch the stuff. Then he started with one stick. He would light up a few a day until that turned into half a pack daily. It got even worse after he got married.

Now, however, Lucian was just chewing gum.

Even so, Doctor Wesley wanted to make sure, considering... Lucian’s condition.

"Master, is everything alright?" he asked patiently again. "You haven’t called for , and I was worried since the last hypnosis session wasn’t as successful because you woke up earlier than usual."

Lucian humd, tilting his head slightly. "I don’t need that anymore."

"Are you sure?"

This ti, Lucian lifted his gaze to the doctor. "Do you not believe , Doctor Wesley?"

"No, sir," Doctor Wesley lowered his head. "I’m simply worried since you let

take a case at the hospital."

Usually, Doctor Wesley stayed in the mansion to monitor Lucian’s health. It was mandatory for the don of such a large organization. Considering the kind of life they lived, an expert was needed to ensure the don remained in perfect health.

It was just that... Doctor Wesley wasn’t staying there only for that.

"I feel... better lately."

To the doctor’s surprise, Lucian gave him a reassurance he hadn’t expected. Wesley looked up, slightly startled, and t Lucian’s gaze.

And for the first ti since he had been hired by this man, he saw a smile on the big boss’s face.

It was faint—very small—but noticeable. Especially to those who worked for Lucian and had spent enough ti with him, they knew the man didn’t know how to smile. Or rather, they knew Lucian was not capable of carrying such a soft expression.

It was either a stoic look or a dangerous one.

"And I’ve been sleeping well. Sotis, I even find myself oversleeping," Lucian added, continuing to adjust his sleeve and fasten the buttons. "You can check my watch. It should tell you my sleeping pattern."

Doctor Wesley blinked several tis. He had heard that Lucian and Ashley seed to have made up, and that the madam had finally been knocked into so sense. However, that was hard to believe, especially since Doctor Wesley had only heard it from Nolan.

"I will recheck your data," Wesley said. "If this continues, I’m expecting improvent in your condition."

Upon hearing that, Lucian paused for a second, and the doctor didn’t miss it.

The brief relief in Doctor Wesley’s heart faded, and before he knew it, he asked, "Master, have you not told the madam yet? That... you only have five years left?"

This ti, the softness in Lucian’s expression sharpened in an instant. He slid his sharp, glinting eyes toward the doctor, warning him with a single look.

Wesley gulped and lowered his head. "I apologize, Master. I’ll watch what I say next ti."
