"There are always so strange things in this world, this is what my father told ." A line of subtitles appeared on the computer screen, and Akatsuki couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow at the scene.
"Should I say, as expected of a Chinese horror ga? This simplified Chinese is pretty comfortable to look at." Akatsuki was the first to comnt, having seen quite a few Chinese gas that started off in English.
Perhaps it could be said that the ga manufacturers aid to target a wide audience, intending to develop the international market, but Akatsuki found after playing that, let alone developing for the international market, it would be not bad to even appeal to the urban market.
Imdiately after, the screen lit up, and Akatsuki found the ga character standing on the rooftop of an office building, with a crowd of onlookers below.
As the first-person perspective kicked in, the ga officially began.
"This is an interesting start, isn’t it? Is the protagonist supposed to jump off a building right away? I’ve never seen this setting before, and where’s the sense of horror in broad daylight?" Akatsuki couldn’t help comnting.
"You can tell the strear doesn’t play many Chinese gas. This is clearly depicting the protagonist being forced by the onlookers to jump off, and then it’s a critique of the world’s indifference and such."
"Do I hear soone saying ’jump down, jump down’?"
"Stop, we just had one here before, who was egged on to jump."
Akatsuki watched the lively discussion in the chat and then refocused on controlling the ga character.
"I bet there will be a jump scare when we look back." As Akatsuki spoke, he turned his head around and saw the desolate rooftop behind him with just an iron door there.
"Hahaha, face-slapped on the spot!"
"What happened to the jump scare you ntioned?"
But before Akatsuki could say anything more, a strange noise ca through the headphones.
"What’s this?" Akatsuki felt his heartbeat speed up inexplicably, as the sound, blending into the noisy ambient noise, was barely distinguishable unless listened to carefully.
"Damn, I heard it too, just when you turned around, I heard it."
"How does it feel like the sound is getting closer?"
Akatsuki swallowed hard, indeed, the sound was getting closer and clearer.
Akatsuki, maneuvering his ga character, quickly circled the rooftop; apart from this door, there was nothing else.
"It seems we still have to go through the door." Without any hesitation, Akatsuki directly controlled the ga character towards the door.
As he got closer, the strange sound beca clearer, and then Akatsuki suddenly realized that the sound was coming from behind the door.
"This ga is pretty interesting."
"Don’t talk, savor it, think about it carefully."
"This studio must have studied psychology."
"An expert, indeed."
Akatsuki watched the iron door in front of him with solemnity, the sound had approached the door but then suddenly fell silent.
Akatsuki’s mouth twitched, having played horror gas for so long, he knew exactly what was happening at this mont.
"Ladies and gentlen in the audience, the situation is now clear, either jump off the building or push open the door, but we’ve just heard sothing waiting behind the door." Akatsuki took a deep breath, and although he had played many horror gas, he still felt fear every ti he faced the unknown.
"Open it!"
"Be a man and open the door!"
"Battalion commander, bring over my Italian cannon!"
The chat was instantly flooded with a wave of ssages.
But just as Akatsuki was about to press the F key to open the door, he suddenly noticed sothing—the door handle, was it moving on its own?
Akatsuki took another look and then realized that the door handle was indeed moving, as if soone was gripping it, trying to open the door.
"Ha, looks like the little miss behind the door is already eager for my arrival," Onion casually threw out a flirtatious remark; these days, if you don’t talk dirty, the fans just won’t stick around.
"Colorful host? Followed, followed."
"Stop the car! This isn’t the way to the kindergarten at all."
Then Onion pressed the F key, and the iron gate in front of him slowly began to open, but it got stuck halfway.
Onion maneuvered his ga character and squeezed through, only to see a strangely shaped humanoid object on the ground as soon as he got inside.
It was like a lump of mud—had it not been for the head, Onion wouldn’t have been able to tell what it was.
Then a ghostly face rapidly zood in, and the screen instantly went black.
[You died]
Onion blinked in confusion, "What happened? How did I just die?"
"Suddenly snuffed it."
"Got ghost-faced; of course, you’re dead."
Onion’s mouth twitched; he wasn’t feeling too good. Although the ghost face was scary and the music was on point, he was still a bit disappointed.
"Let’s go again." Onion clicked to start the ga again, but this ti the screen was different.
A face appeared on the screen; Onion was surprised to see it was himself, even wearing his gaming headset.
"What’s this? I didn’t turn on the cara, did I?" Onion was a bit puzzled and double-checked, indeed he was in the eerie ga interface.
"This must’ve gotten access to your computer’s cara permissions."
"Now that you ntion it, could this ga be used to expose fake Qiao Biluo-like hosts?"
"Such gas exist abroad too, didn’t expect a dostic one to catch on, heh."
"Wait, are you guys not hearing anything?"
While reading the barrage of comnts, Onion quickly realized sothing was off. He turned up the volu and heard a familiar sound from the ga.
"What the hell is that, sothing more going to co at ?" Onion joked, then casually took off his headset.
"The host is chickening out!"
"B site’s triple chickens becoming quadruple chickens?"
Before Onion could say anything more, he realized sothing was amiss—the sound was still continuing.
Onion quickly glanced at the screen, and behind the on-screen version of himself, there was a slight movent at the wardrobe, followed by a pair of pale hands reaching out, then retreating back in.
And those hands looked incredibly real, as if there indeed was soone hiding inside his wardrobe.
Onion stared at the wardrobe, feeling fear for the first ti about opening it.
"This ga is really interesting; that was virtual technology just now, right? To think it could go this far!"
"If you hadn’t said it, I wouldn’t have known that was fake. Those hands looked too real, how did the ga developers do it?"
"Setting aside everything else, the horror crossing into reality is aweso!"
"My wardrobe just moved, I’m not playing anymore."
Although later, when he checked, there indeed was nothing there, the scene had still left an indelible shadow on Onion.
Afterward, Onion uploaded the recording to B site, and the downloads on Steam started to shoot up.
