[Paralysis]
To test the [Lightning] skill, I decide to head back to the 4th floor and fight so mountain goblins.
The reason? If I were up against shock rats, which also have the [Lightning] skill, they might have resistance—or worse, clashing lightning effects could cause a short circuit and rebound the damage back at .
As I scout the area near the pitch-black entrance to the 5th floor, two spear-wielding mountain goblins happen to co charging at us.
“Oh, looks like they’re here.”
“Alright, let’s test it out. Cover , Coach.”
Nina-san, who’s been practicing channeling electricity through her sli whip, adjusts her mask and steps forward.
“Got it. Don’t worry about anything else—just focus.”
“Thanks.”
“Stay sharp, Shizu.”
Serai-san and I split off to either side of the corridor, ready to back Nina-san up from behind.
That said, the mountain goblins on the 4th floor are no pushovers. They inch forward cautiously, and Nina-san’s carefully asuring her distance, so this fight might drag on.
While I gather mana to summon sli ropes at a mont’s notice, I also experint with combining skills to imbue them with [Paralysis].
Yeah, skill combos are sothing I’ve been teaching the three of them all along.
Like infusing sli with potent acid to create a terrifying adhesive that won’t co off easily, or combining [Salt] and [Crafting] to make intricate little trinkets—skills are only as good as how you combine them.
But the [Paralysis] skill? I’ve barely even used it solo, let alone in combos.
Mainly because it’s just not that practical. First, you have to touch the target for it to work, and even then, it’s not 100% reliable. When you’re fighting alone, wasting an action on a gamble like that is worse than just going for a surefire way to pressure the enemy.
For example, why bother getting close to paralyze them when you could just douse them in sli? Sli restrains movent and suffocates them for damage.
In short, [Sli] has always been the straight-up superior option, leaving [Paralysis] in the shadows.
Oh, and giant moth venom scales have the sa effect too.
But those are tricky to handle since they’re poisonous, and scattering them effectively mid-combat is a pain. I tried wrapping them in plastic and stuffing them into capsule toys, but they just wouldn’t break open on impact.
And if you make them too fragile, they crumble in your hands instead. Total hassle. Getting paralyzed by your own venom scales mid-fight? Not exactly a laughing matter.
“Hyah, [Stun Mucus]!!”
While I’m lost in thought, Nina-san lashes out at the approaching mountain goblins with her sli whip.
““Gyah!””
But it’s way too telegraphed, and they dodge easily. The goblins scatter left and right, then lunge low.
“Tch, predictable. [Mucus Rope]!!”
I fling two sli ropes at the spear-wielding goblins’ shoulders as they charge.
““Gweh!?””
Their faces twist in shock and pain—Wait, it reaches this far!? Nah, c’mon, don’t act so surprised.
(Now, [Paralysis]!)
““Gyah—bwah!?””
Channeling paralysis through the sli ropes, I watch as the goblins freeze up in perfect sync, stiff as boards.
“Huh!? Why’s Egetsuki using lightning instead of Shizu!?”
Yeah, Serai-san’s freaking out, but if I say, “Actually, this is just the [Paralysis] skill I never used,” will she believe ?
