The quiet of the night felt terrifying.
In the darkness, An Ning suddenly heard rustling noises coming from the doorway.
Already thinking Gao Dashu and Madam Gao had been acting strange today, she beca even calr now, sensing sothing off.
An Ning gently lifted the quilt off her body, got out of bed, and darted under it.
Sure enough, not long after, the door was pushed open.
In the moonlight streaming through the open door, An Ning saw four feet, two of which clearly belonged to Madam Gao.
The footsteps ca closer, accompanied by An Dashu’s surprised voice, "Mother, there’s only little sister on the bed, not An Ning, that damned girl!"
"How could that be? You locked the door from the inside when you opened it. If she’s not in the room, where else could she be?"
"Oh my goodness, Mother, people from Madam Hua are waiting at the door right now. Let’s find her first; otherwise, we won’t have solved the issue with the gambling house, and now we’ll offend Madam Hua too!"
Thinking about the gleaming silver, Madam Gao beca anxious.
Suddenly, Madam Gao stepped forward and flipped open the quilt.
Gao Xiaoi, in her dreams, woke up with a shudder.
Opening her eyes wide, Gao Xiaoi only saw two dark shapes in front of the bed and started crying out in fear.
Frightened, Xiaoi couldn’t bear the scare, and her brother Gao Mutou and his wife Yan quickly heard the commotion.
"What happened...what happened..."
Gao Mutou ran over barefoot, without even putting on shoes.
"Dad...I’m scared..." Xiaoi cried out, and seeing Gao Mutou co in, she hurriedly ran towards him.
"Don’t be afraid, Xiaoi, don’t be afraid..." After comforting her briefly, Gao Mutou imdiately turned to Madam Gao and Gao Dashu, "Mother, second brother, what’s going on? Why are you here in the middle of the night? And where is An Ning?"
"I should be asking you that, old third. Did you hide that damned girl, An Ning? Are you trying to get your second brother killed?" Madam Gao asked.
Gao Mutou frowned, "Mother, what are you talking about? Where’s An Ning? What did you do to An Ning?"
Looking around, indeed An Ning wasn’t anywhere to be seen, and Gao Mutou beca anxious.
"Xiaoi, tell , where’s your second sister?"
"I...I don’t know. I just woke up and saw two dark shadows at the foot of the bed. I thought they were ghosts..." Gao Xiaoi sobbed, still not fully calm.
Feeling anxious, Gao Mutou asked Madam Gao again, "Mother, where’s An Ning?"
"How would I know? I want to ask you that. Old third, quickly bring out that damned girl, people from Madam Hua are still waiting outside! That’s not soone our little farming family can afford to offend!" Madam Gao was also anxious.
"Who’s Madam Hua? Mother, second brother, what exactly do you want with An Ning? Where is she?" Although he didn’t know who Madam Hua was, Gao Mutou could tell from Madam Gao’s tone that this wasn’t a good person.
And now with An Ning missing, he was deeply worried, not knowing how he would explain to Yan if anything really happened to her.
Under the bed, An Ning was also hesitating, wondering whether she should co out or not.
Or rather, after coming out, would Gao Mutou be able to ensure her safety?
Even though she felt that the third family’s people were quite nice during these past few days, she wasn’t originally a mber of the third family.
