After trying to think of who to challenge to a spar, a student found him on his own, he was a student nad Charles, who used a spear and from what Milo could rember, he was quite skilled at using it. Milo wanted to test out using his ability with the chain sickle, but today would unfortunately not be the day for him to test it.

After agreeing to the spar, Milo and Charles let Mikael know that they would be opponents, and soon all the students were paired up, and the matches were set to start. As this was the first week of classes most of the students made many stupid mistakes and were open to many attacks. Milo lost track of the openings that he could have gained an advantage with.

After a few boring matches full of mistakes, a pair of students went to the center to spar. Both these students used swords, one was a normal sword, a blade on both edges, while the other student used a more katana like blade, with a sharp edge on only one side. The battle was the most interesting so far, as both students could wield them fairly well, and with them using two different styles of swords it also showed two different styles of swordplay. Eventually a victor was decided and it was back to more boring matches.

It seed like Mikael himself was even bored of these matches, but he didn't show it, instead he was saving the most promising sparring matches for last. One of these was the spar between Milo and Charles.

After a few more matches, Milo and Charles' match was finally up. They each took their positions opposite each other and when seeing Milo's weapon, so of the students were surprised. While practicing with their weapons many of the students were swept up in their own practicing and didn't look to see what other students had chosen to wield.

"What a weird looking weapon, I wonder how it's used," one student said.

"Oh crap, I didn't see what weapon he was using, but I saw Charles practicing and he seed pretty strong," another said.

Many comnts like these were made before Mikael hushed the class. After each student took a fighting stance, Mikael signaled the start of the match.

Knowing that his opponent would have the range advantage, Charles chose to rush in before Milo could strike with his chain. Thanks to this, Milo chose to hold onto the handle of the sickle and parried a blow that would have hit him in the chest to the side. After trading a few blows that were all blocked, Milo then chose to make so distance and swung his chain around him to buy him a second of ti to think. Because of the swinging chain, Charles couldn't get close and began to circle Milo, looking for an opening.

Different scenarios ran through Milo's head, the main issue with the spear was that it was in a gray area of range that was right in the middle of his optimal distance when using the chain sickle. When wielding the sickle up close the spear was out of reach but unless he kept a considerable distance he couldn't take advantage of the chain. When thinking of how he could use the chain closer up, an image appeared in his mind of his plunder ability wrapping the target he was using it on in chains and this gave him an idea.
