Chapter 644: Chapter 11 Very Good, Very Spirited
The light slanted westward, and the afterglow inside the church gradually dimd.
On the altar, thousands of candles were strewn haphazardly, mixed with long-withered flowers that would crumble into dust at the slightest touch.
Shao Zifeng swept the candelabrum aside, revealing a shriveled heart in the midst of the gilded pattern.
Qiuqiu looked at the heart, “Hm?”
Shao Zifeng nodded. He had probably described what he had seen in Gjestaf’s mory to Qiuqiu beforehand, so Qiuqiu recalled it imdiately upon seeing the heart.
After receiving Shao Zifeng’s confirmation, Qiuqiu looked at the spirit of resentnt with a asure of pity.
The spirit of resentnt didn’t show much of a reaction; it had a blood-stained cross hanging above its head, and its bow tie fluttered back and forth. As it noticed Qiuqiu’s gaze, a strand of its hair also moved, as if greeting it, which was… quite charming.
Shao Zifeng didn’t disturb them. Instead, he bent his head and began to study the altar, which was engraved with intricate patterns and edged with gilt paint. Even though it had been years without care, the altar still shone brightly when the dust was brushed away. He carefully moved the shriveled heart to the side, revealing a slight indentation beneath the dried bloodstains.
Shao Zifeng thought for a mont then gestured to the spirit of resentnt, “Gjestaf, do you know how to open this thing?”
“Oh~”
The spirit of resentnt cheerfully circled around Shao Zifeng, then looked towards the altar. A tuft of its hair pointed to the side, indicating that Shao Zifeng should move back a bit.
Shao Zifeng stepped back a few paces. From the dark hollows of the spirit’s eyes, a black-red liquid erged, dripping onto the altar and quickly disappearing.
Ti ticked by, and the church was eerily quiet, with nothing happening.
“Oh~”
The spirit of resentnt glanced at Shao Zifeng, its hair drooping slightly, seeming a bit dejected.
Seeing this, Shao Zifeng softly consoled it, “It’s okay. If it doesn’t work, we will think of another way.”
The spirit of resentnt shook its head, circling the altar a few tis, suddenly brightening up and stopping above the bloodstain. The next mont, its eyes turned blood-red, black mist swirled around its head, and sharp fangs extended downward from its open mouth.
Shao Zifeng, keeping a close eye on the spirit of resentnt, noticed that its strength and aptitude were rapidly increasing.
Second stage.
Third stage.
When its strength reached the fourth stage, a Holy Light bead down upon the church, transforming the entire church into a dazzling spectacle.
Within the Holy Light, an elegant European garden erged, with a white marble fountain peeking out from the greenery, gracefully spewing clear and clean water streams, and a blonde girl in a white robe stood in front of the fountain, her hands crossed and touching her delicately pointed nose, while ethereal holy songs seed to cleanse all worries.
This ti Shao Zifeng saw clearly—the girl’s face was unmistakably that of Gjestaf. But in the next mont, his attention was captured by the changes on the altar, where the sun-dried heart under the Holy Light gradually beca full, with golden blood vessels emitting a faint Holy Light distributed above the heart.
Gjestaf’s chanting ended, and the heart contracted sharply.
Thump thump!
The strong heartbeat echoed in Shao Zifeng’s ears, followed by the dried bloodstains on the table slowly turning bright red and converging towards the heart.
Qiuqiu’s eyes widened, disbelieving what it was seeing, its small claws gripping tightly onto Shao Zifeng’s hair.
Thump thump!
The heartbeat sounded again. The spirit of resentnt stared dumbly at the heart that once belonged to it as the heart slowly floated up from the altar, glowing faintly right in front of it.
Shao Zifeng and Qiuqiu dared not breathe, afraid of disturbing the spirit of resentnt.
But the next mont, their eyes widened in disbelief at the scene unfolding before them.
The spirit of resentnt actually ate the heart.
Ate it!!
“Burp—”
The spirit of resentnt let out a long satisfied burp, an abnormal flush appearing on its pale face. Shao Zifeng wasn’t sure if it was his imagination, but it seed to have more hair?
“Oh?”
When Shao Zifeng noticed the Spirit of Resentnt looking at him, its hair fluttered as it cheerfully greeted them.
Shao Zifeng stepped forward and touched its head, “So…how do we open this?”
The Spirit of Resentnt displayed a smug expression…
Hiss.
Even its expressions had beco enriched, you know, it used to always have a deadpan face.
Once again, liquid surged in the Spirit of Resentnt’s eyes. However, this ti it wasn’t the original black-red color, but a fresh red color with a faint luminescence. The liquid fell on the altar, spreading along the gilded patterns and finally seeping into an inconspicuous recess.
Boom!
The church trembled, and a vertical crack appeared in front of the altar, slowly opening to reveal a dark cavity, as a moist air current rushed out, carrying a faint fishy sll.
“Oh~”
The Spirit of Resentnt’s tied-up hair flustered, with the bow trembling too.
Shao Zifeng touched its head, “Well done.”
By the light from the window outside, Shao Zifeng peered into the passage. The passage was quite narrow, built with rectangular stones used in castles. The stone surfaces were rough and moist, showing clear chisel marks, and water kept seeping through the gaps, giving the passage a very damp feel.
Qiuqiu curiously looked inside and muttered sothing into Shao Zifeng’s ear.
At that mont, Shao Zifeng suddenly asked, “Gjestaf, the man who went in… did he co out?”
The Spirit of Resentnt was startled and after hesitating for a mont, slowly shook its head.
“He didn’t co out…” Shao Zifeng frowned, a sense of alertness growing within him.
He pondered for a mont and then gestured with his finger, conjuring an illusory Space Rift next to him.
Whoosh whoosh.
The barely discernible sound of air tearing echoed as a black and white pair of Tang swords shot out from the Space Rift. Shao Zifeng grabbed ‘Hidden Edge’ and ‘Whale Horn’, hanging them on the hooks at his waist.
The cloak fell, with the crossed sword scabbards lifting a corner of the cloak, and then Shao Zifeng strapped the ‘Glory of the Karen Family’ onto his thigh, nodding at Qiuqiu once everything was ready.
“Ying!”
Qiuqiu, thinking about the imminent encounter with an old foe, had flas dancing in its golden-red eyes.
Shao Zifeng said discontentedly, “Louder!”
Qiuqiu clenched its little paw, the flas in its pupils intensifying, as it shouted with fighting spirit, “Ying!!”
Shao Zifeng nodded, pleased, “Very good! Full of spirit, let’s go!”
“Oh~”
At that mont, the Spirit of Resentnt tugged at his cloak.
Shao Zifeng looked at the Spirit of Resentnt and hesitated, “You want to co with us too… It might be dangerous.”
The Spirit of Resentnt’s bowed hair bunched up like clenched little fists, and it yelled, “Oh!”
Shao Zifeng’s mouth twitched. This was what he used to amuse Qiuqiu; how quickly it had learned. Nonetheless, faced with the Spirit of Resentnt’s expectant gaze, he could only pat its head, “Very good, you’re full of spirit too!”
“Let’s go… wait a second.”
Shao Zifeng suddenly rembered sothing because of the Spirit of Resentnt’s participation.
He looked up at the remnants of the Virgin Mary hanging upside down, and reached for a candle. Qiuqiu and the Spirit of Resentnt quietly watched his movents, not disturbing him.
Snap!
Shao Zifeng snapped his fingers, a weak fla alighting on the candle, reflecting on the mory of the constantly infuriated beautiful woman from Gjestaf’s mories, he sighed silently.
‘Sister Jessica, I will protect Gjestaf well.’
