The New Year’s chis rang out, fireworks blossod in the night sky.

Standing by the riverside, the cold wind blew against her face.

Sheila Yardley burrowed into her scarf, watching the fireworks reflected on the river’s surface.

The lively atmosphere briefly made her forget the old matters weighing on her heart.

She turned to ask Isaac Sheffield when they should head back, only to realize that he was watching her.

Sheila was montarily stunned, Isaac’s gaze didn’t evade, instead, he gave her a smile.

His looks were of the clean, sunny type, and with that smile, Sheila felt her heart begin to stir.

Perhaps influenced by the romantic atmosphere of the mont, as she watched him lower his head and slowly lean towards her, her body stiffened and her mind went blank.

Until his warm breath brushed against her face, she still awkwardly lowered her head to dodge.

Even though her dodging action wasn’t obvious, Isaac still noticed.

Isaac lifted his head, straightened his body, and looked at her saying: "Elaine, do you resist these touches a lot?"

"...I’m sorry, I’m just not quite used to it yet."

Isaac pursed his lips, lowered his eyes, looked at her for a mont, and cautiously asked her: "...Did he do sothing to you before? Leave you with so kind of shadow."

Hearing Isaac ntion this, Sheila imdiately recalled what Caleb Grant had done to her.

Even though the Caleb of today was no longer that demon, the things he had done in the past, Sheila might never forget in her lifeti.

She admitted there was so influence from this, but more so it was her own reasons.

Isaac embraced her, comforting her by saying: "No matter what happened in the past, can you try to forget it? In the future, no one will hurt you again, and I won’t ever force you to do things you don’t want, but don’t let yourself get stuck in the past, alright?"

Sheila lifted her hand to embrace him, her face chilled by the night wind rested on his chest, feeling especially warm.

She was very thankful for his compassion and understanding, and determined to change completely for him.

"Buzz—buzz—" His phone vibrated in the pocket of his outer coat, Sheila released him.

He took out his phone, glanced at it, directly hung up without answering, and after two seconds of silence said to Sheila: "I might have sothing to take care of, let send you back first."

Sheila nodded, couldn’t help but ask: "Where to? Do you still have work today?"

Isaac smiled and said: "Not work, just a friend who knows I’m back, so I’ll go see them and say hi."

Sheila nodded thoughtfully, but felt a bit puzzled inside; he brought her back to et his parents, couldn’t he take her to et that friend?

Especially on New Year’s Eve, what kind of friend must be t so late?

Although confused about many things, Sheila did not press further.

Only thinking of going back alone to be with his parents, she still felt so pressure, so she said: "You go first, I’ll wander around nearby, wait for you to finish and then co get ."

Isaac hesitated, worried for her, thinking for a mont, said: "Be safe, I’ll co get you as soon as possible, don’t go too far."

"Hmm."

"I’m off, call if anything."

"Okay, drive carefully."

As soon as the two separated, they were swept apart by the bustling crowd, not even able to find his departing figure.

Sheila stood by the riverside, looking at the shimring river in the night, watching people passing on the bridge, perhaps too sensitive inside, because of Isaac’s departure feeling lonely.

The bustling street, the unfamiliar city, sitting on the bench by the street, suddenly feeling a bit hosick.

In the European-styled luxury hotel.

In the deluxe couple’s room, with the heater’s warmth surrounding, inside the room was completely free from the winter chill.

Isaac held a woman with a seductive figure, tumbling into a soft, warm bed.

"Why haven’t you co to see for so long?" The woman pouted, complaining.

Isaac tossed her pink mink shawl onto the sofa by the bed: "I’m getting married, this is the last ti I’ll co see you."

"You’re getting married?" The woman abruptly pushed him away, her face full of disbelief.

Isaac chuckled and asked her: "What, did you happen to fall for ?"

The woman froze for a mont, then reached out to hook him again, leaned to his ear and said: "Finding a new sugar daddy is troubleso, but not impossible."

The woman’s fingers began to unbutton Isaac’s shirt while saying: "Congratulations on your marriage, but you ditch your fiancée on New Year’s to co see , you really are scummy."

"So I don’t have much ti to spend with you, make the most of it."

The woman giggled softly, "She won’t give it to you?"

"She’s not as indiscreet as you, conservative and shy, I don’t want to force her."

"You’re getting married and still talking about forcing or not forcing, when did you beco so gentlemanly?"

"She’s very different."

"Naturally, otherwise you wouldn’t be marrying her, right? Co on, focus, it’s just you and now."

...

The bustling and lively street was empty after the crowd dispersed.

Sheila was cold, hungry, and tired, almost all the stores on the street were tightly shut.

Her toes beca a bit stiff, the wind by the river seed even more piercing.

She took out her phone and checked the ti, it was already nearly two o’clock.

He hadn’t sent any ssage.

Hesitating, she dialed Isaac’s number.

Aside from the monotonous "beep" tone, there was nothing else from the phone.

Could sothing have happened? Her heart started to worry.

...

Outside the hotel, two n were fighting.

The hotel staff stood aside, not daring to intervene.

The man lying on the ground had his phone ringing continuously, but he couldn’t answer it.

Isaac initially didn’t understand who he had a grudge with, he had just stepped out of the hotel and received a heavy punch.

His mouth was full of the taste of blood.

The man hitting him didn’t say a word, seed crazy, even though Isaac was clearly at a disadvantage, unable to fight back, the man’s strength didn’t diminish in the slightest.

Baffled by the beating, Isaac noticed the man seed familiar, realizing he hadn’t encountered just any drunk or lunatic.

Isaac raised his hand to wipe the blood from the corner of his mouth, looking at the furious Caleb Grant he asked: "You know Elaine, right?"

Caleb finally stopped his movents, released his grip on Isaac’s collar, stood up and looked down at Isaac.

"Cough, cough—" Isaac winced in pain, leaning against the wall, sitting up, half-smiling as he looked at Caleb, asking him: "You’re the one who hurt her before, aren’t you?"

Caleb firmly furrowed his brows, still silent, the viciousness and anger in his eyes hadn’t faded away.
