"Hearing you say that, it seems like he’s still deeply in love with his ex-girlfriend."

Landon Sutton: "What’s past is past. The important thing is whether or not he likes your sister now. If Peach really is their child, with a child between them, what kind of irreconcilable conflict could make your sister abandon the child?"

Shannon Quinn also looked worried: "We should first figure out if there’s any actual connection between the child and Elaine. What if it’s just a resemblance? It wouldn’t be appropriate for us to force a relationship."

Elaine had an early flight the next day and arrived in the morning.

At lunchti, Catherine Yardley pushed Elaine towards marriage again, and Shannon Quinn chid in, "Elaine might already have soone, so mom, don’t stress over it."

Catherine Yardley: "If you have soone, bring them over and let us see. You’re at an age to discuss marriage; don’t hide them away fearing ridicule."

Elaine laughed awkwardly and explained, "I’m not in a hurry to get married yet. I want to stabilize my work first."

Catherine Yardley: "I believed you when you just graduated, but now your career is on track. How stable does it need to be? Don’t use excuses to brush off. If you et soone suitable, you should consider this."

"Got it, mom. Let’s eat now."

Shannon Quinn watched Elaine’s expression but couldn’t discern much; she only rembered the ti Elaine ntioned going abroad, which upon reflection, seed to have many suspicious points.

After that year, her personality changed a lot, almost as if she’d beco a different person. It didn’t seem like a change brought on just by work.

They could only wait until the evening when Caleb Grant brought Peach over, and maybe they’d discover sothing.

Around four in the afternoon, Susan Wilde and Erin Bishop arrived together.

Erin Bishop was alone because Zane Rhodes was on a business trip.

As for Susan Wilde, she’d formally started dating Simon Rhodes after divorcing Shawn Rhodes.

Their relationship wasn’t public yet, but they didn’t shy away either.

There were so speculations and rumors, but neither of them clarified anything.

As Susan Wilde’s friend, naturally I was happy for her. Regardless of anything else, Simon’s affection for Susan was a step above Shawn’s.

Choosing between a man who loves you and one who constantly abuses you isn’t difficult.

"Skylar, why didn’t Mr. Rhodes co with you?"

"He’s coming after he finishes work later."

Erin Bishop loved gossiping about these things the most: "What’s the situation between you two? When are you planning to invite us to your wedding?"

Susan Wilde laughed a bit embarrassedly and said, "Not so soon... He’s quite eager, but I think maybe later."

Shannon Quinn nodded and said, "That’s good too—better to take ti to understand each other’s personalities and tempers."

Susan Wilde nodded approvingly, but Shannon Quinn continued, "Though I see Mr. Rhodes is mature and polite, privately he should be gentle with no temper, so you two might not have much to adjust at all."

Susan Wilde sighed and expressed her concerns: "Actually, I’m worried his grandfather might not agree."

"Grandpa’s all bark and no bite; he didn’t like at first."

"But I’m not like you. After all, I was Shawn’s wife, verbally calling Simon ’uncle’, so I’m afraid..."

Erin Bishop advised, "Since you two have decided to be together, these things will be confronted sooner or later. Unless you plan to wait until the old man passes before marrying him?"

Susan Wilde quickly explained, "I didn’t an that. I just want to take it slow so grandpa can gradually accept ."

Shannon Quinn thought about this issue and said, "Actually, grandpa is quite understanding. If he truly sees Simon’s determination, at first he might be reluctant to accept you, but he wouldn’t block you."

Susan Wilde wanted to take this step but was a bit scared.

She could ignore verbal abuse and obstacles from others, but Simon’s grandfather was the most important relative for Simon, who lost his parents young. If he opposed, it would put Simon in a difficult spot.

That’s a situation nobody wants to face.

"Anyway, divorcing that beast was a good thing. Has Rowan Alder registered with him now?"

Susan Wilde shook her head: "I don’t know about that; I haven’t been in touch with him since finalizing the divorce."

As they talked, Julian Yardley showed up.

Seeing him co alone, Shannon Quinn and Catherine Yardley were puzzled, almost speaking in unison, "Where’s Iris?"

"Why didn’t she co with you?"

Julian Yardley didn’t seem in a good mood; he took off his helt and put it by the door. He replied, "She has classes and couldn’t co."

Shannon Quinn noticed he seed like it wasn’t just a matter of classes, so she turned to ask Susan Wilde. Susan Wilde hesitated but said, "When I ca over, she was at ho. I asked her to co, but she said she wasn’t feeling well, took cold dicine, and wanted to sleep. She’s probably still in bed now."

Everyone looked at Julian Yardley inquiringly, but Julian didn’t want to explain anything. He turned and headed to the bathroom.

Seeing this, Shannon Quinn whispered, "I think the two might have had an argunt."

Susan Wilde: "I was saying that girl hasn’t been lively these past two days."

Erin Bishop: "What can those two kids possibly argue about?"

Catherine Yardley set down a fruit platter on the coffee table and said to Susan Wilde, "Susan, why don’t you call her again and ask her to co over and join in the fun?"

Catherine Yardley was fond of Iris already, treating her like half a daughter.

Susan Wilde picked up the phone, "Alright, I’ll call her again."

While Susan Wilde got up to call, Julian Yardley ca out of the bathroom, and Shannon Quinn threw a grape at him.

With his hands in his pockets, Julian saw the grape coming and didn’t bother to catch it, letting it hit him and roll to the floor. He even kicked it, obviously upset.

Shannon Quinn stood up and pulled him to sit beside her, "Co on, tell big sis, what’s up with you two?"

Julian Yardley was irritated: "I want to know what’s up."

Shannon Quinn: "Don’t you know what you did? Iris wouldn’t be mad at you for no reason."

Julian Yardley: "You won love getting upset for no reason. Ask what’s wrong, and you say it’s fine, but speak with a weird tone when saying it’s fine. I asked, but she wouldn’t say anything—no clue what she’s mad about!"

Shannon Quinn: "That’s because you’re still clueless. Go drive and pick up Iris. Talk things out in front of everyone, and sis will ask for you."
