When returning to the country, Shawn and the others were likely in first class, while Skylar was in economy class. Besides during the waiting room period, they didn’t cross paths again, which saved Skylar a lot of trouble.
With their safe arrival, the so-called "honeymoon trip" finally ca to an end.
Seeing as the sumr vacation was already halfway over, Iris had been constantly talking about eting her brother-in-law. Skylar had found various excuses to decline several tis.
Noticing Shawn was in a pretty good mood these days, the evening after returning, Skylar waited for him to co back and approached him to discuss: "Uh... Are you free tomorrow night?"
"Why?"
"My sister knows I’m married, but she’s never t you, so I was hoping you could help out and join us for a al."
"Tomorrow night?"
"Yes... If you’re not free tomorrow night, another day is fine too."
Shawn stood at the entrance, changed his shoes, took a few steps towards the stairs, and then said: "Let’s do tomorrow night."
Skylar smiled happily and nodded: "Then I’ll book the restaurant tomorrow and send you the address."
Shawn tossed out a simple "hm" and headed straight upstairs.
Skylar didn’t expect Shawn to be so cooperative, and he even ca to pick her up from work the next day.
"Where’s your sister? Should we pick her up?" Shawn asked as soon as he got in the car.
Skylar closed the car door and said: "No need, she’s already there."
When the car reached the restaurant, they saw Iris waiting outside, looking around. Skylar rolled down the window and waved to her, and Iris imdiately ran over happily: "Sis?"
Once the car was parked, Iris curiously scrutinized her mysterious brother-in-law.
Skylar got out of the car and stood beside Iris, glancing at Shawn who had just stepped out. Worried about whether he’d show impatience, she was surprised to find him quite cooperative. He locked the car and ca over, smiling at Iris: "So this is Iris?"
Skylar nodded, she had just told him this on the way over.
"Hey, brother-in-law!" Iris looked Shawn up and down, seemingly quite satisfied with him.
Shawn walked ahead into the restaurant, and Iris clung to Skylar’s arm, following behind and whispering: "Brother-in-law is quite handso, where did you pick him up?"
"Stop talking nonsense."
"Brother-in-law, what kind of business do you do? Are you very busy? I’ve asked my sister several tis, and she always says you’re on business trips."
Shawn turned back to look at her and replied patiently: "Things have been quite hectic lately, but your sister just brought this up now. Otherwise, I would’ve definitely made so ti earlier to bring you out for a al together."
During the al, Iris continuously asked about the couple’s matters, fearing her sister might again encounter soone unsuitable.
However, throughout the al, Shawn remained quite patient, even better than Skylar had expected. He occasionally served her food and kept asking if the sisters needed anything, taking good care of them.
After returning ho, the sisters chatted on WeChat, with Iris highly praising Shawn. Yet, hearing Iris’ complints, Skylar felt a mixed bag of emotions inside.
Because she knew in her heart that all of this was rely a fleeting illusion.
Shawn put on quite a show, and after dinner, he first drove Iris ho. Then he took Skylar to a conveniently located intersection, stopped, and said to her: "Get a taxi ho yourself. Laura just ssaged, saying she’s feeling a bit under the weather, so I’m going over to check."
"Oh..." Skylar pushed open the car door and got out, standing by the roadside, watching him drive away.
She stood by the roadside for a while without calling a taxi, choosing instead to walk ho as if taking a stroll.
She began to think, if it weren’t for Rowan, perhaps she and Shawn might be able to get along better, maybe even turn this marriage into what a marriage is supposed to be.
That night, Shawn did not return ho. Simon brought back items she’d bought abroad, and Skylar organized them before hosting Shannon Quinn and Erin Bishop at ho the next day, planning to cook lunch.
Erin and Shannon arrived early. They first looked through all the items Skylar brought back from abroad, and after indulging themselves, they began preparing lunch.
Unexpectedly, at around eleven, Shawn returned ho. Seeing visitors, he seed in a bad mood with a sullen face. Skylar couldn’t tell if it was because she’d invited friends over without consulting him, or he was just already in a bad mood.
Out of courtesy, she asked as she watched him change shoes: "Joining us for lunch?"
"No." And with that, he went upstairs.
Erin muttered quietly: "Who is he sulking for?"
Skylar just smiled and said: "He must’ve been irritated outside; he was fine at ho the past few days. Just ignore him."
Shannon washed the vegetables, asking: "Does he spend more ti here or with Rowan?"
"I’m not sure, but he’s been staying ho at night lately because his mother sotis visits in the morning."
Erin then said: "Are you really letting him ss around with Rowan like that?"
Skylar smiled openly and said: "We’re going to divorce sooner or later anyway; we don’t interfere with each other. As long as he doesn’t give trouble, it’s fine."
Shannon unintentionally ntioned: "I originally thought of introducing Vincent’s brother to you, but at that ti it seed Mr. Rhodes already had soone he was seeing, and Vincent told to mind my own business. Otherwise, if you were with Mr. Rhodes now, it surely wouldn’t be like this."
Hearing Shannon’s words, Skylar nearly lost grip of the knife she was using to cut vegetables and didn’t dare to respond to Shannon’s comnt.
But internally, she couldn’t help but think that if Shannon had really set her up with Simon back then, maybe things wouldn’t have turned out to be such a ss.
About half an hour later, Shawn ca downstairs again, seemingly after taking a shower and changing clothes, and went out.
Erin couldn’t help but complain: "You two don’t seem like a couple at all; even roommates likely have better relationships."
Shannon stepped out earlier in the morning, and Landon called three tis to ask.
After lunch at Skylar’s place, she went to Landon’s company.
"Madam, the boss is talking with clients; you can sit over there for a mont," a young man in a suit ca over to remind her just as Shannon was about to push open Landon’s office door.
Realizing Landon was discussing work, Shannon refrained from opening the door and turned around to wait in the lobby lounge.
Playing mobile gas for a while, she saw the office door open from a distance, followed by a tall woman in a black pencil skirt stepping out...
