After listening to Shannon Quinn, Landon Sutton explained earnestly, "I never used you from the beginning."
"So you were playing ? Did you think it’s amusing to toy with using two roles?"
"I didn’t arrange what happened that night, but I’m very glad that you t then. I admit, when I first saw you lying in my bed, I was very angry; I assud you often got drunk and spent nights in hotels. Later, I discovered it was your first ti, and realized soone frad you. I never expected things would lead to this today, so I didn’t reveal my identity to you at that ti."
Shannon Quinn didn’t know how much of his words were true or false; perhaps she didn’t want to find out. She just felt terrified being in such an environnt.
It seed laughable every ti she thought about sincerely wanting to build a future with Vincent Rhodes, as it might just be a joke in others’ eyes when she was serious.
Feeling like she was being made a fool of.
She put down the chopsticks, picked up a tissue to wipe her mouth, took a deep breath and said, "Let’s get a divorce."
Landon Sutton looked at her with indifferent eyes, saying nothing.
"No matter what I ask, you won’t tell . I’m not interested in what secret plans you’re working on now, but I don’t want to be involved anymore."
Landon Sutton hesitated for a mont, then asked, "What about the child?"
Shannon Quinn replied directly, "It’s none of your business."
"Will you give birth?"
"After the divorce, it’s all my business."
"But I don’t agree to divorce."
Shannon Quinn chuckled; she knew if she continued, he might bring up how he saved the Quinn Family to justify things.
Previously, she didn’t dare ntion divorce because she believed Vincent Rhodes hadn’t wronged her. Now, discovering everything was deception, she didn’t see any reason to continue the marriage.
"If you’re concerned about the losses from marrying , I can repay you gradually in the future."
Landon Sutton responded without thinking, "I don’t want money."
"Then what do you want?"
Landon Sutton crossed his legs and interlaced his fingers on his knee, saying, "Back then, to marry you, I spent a lot to resurrect the Quinn Family, but that money was spent on the Quinn Family. You didn’t benefit from it, so it’s not up to you to repay. But you can feel guilty toward and not bring up divorce again."
"Guilty?" Shannon Quinn sneered, seeming unwilling to say more, lowering her head to take a bite of her food.
Outside the window, the snow was falling quietly, the city remained beautiful.
If the man sitting opposite her were truly the one she loved and stayed with, she might feel happy at this mont.
Landon Sutton saw her accidentally spill so soup; he reached out to hand her a tissue. Shannon Quinn glanced at him but didn’t reach for the tissue in his hand; she reached past him to grab one from the box.
Sensing her action, Landon Sutton frowned, reached out directly to press the tissue against her mouth, helping her wipe away the spilled soup from the corner of her lips.
Shannon Quinn reacted quickly by turning her head, glared at him discontentedly, as if disliking his dirty hands, then used her own tissue to wipe her mouth again.
Landon Sutton lowered his gaze, tossed the tissue into the trash, and stood up, saying, "Eat well; I’m leaving so as not to spoil your appetite."
Shannon Quinn said nothing, treating him as if he were nonexistent.
Landon Sutton took a couple of steps forward, adding, "I have to leave soon. Take care of yourself."
Without waiting for Shannon Quinn’s response, he headed straight for the door.
Opened the door, closed it, and left.
Only then did Shannon Quinn put down the chopsticks in her hand, glanced in the direction he had left, lowered her eyes thoughtfully, sighed softly, and stood up to walk to the balcony, looking up at the sky outside the window.
Vast, yet it resembled an endless cage.
After returning to the country, she didn’t ntion those events to anyone and went to the hospital alone.
Silas Kerr saw her arrive, smiled and asked, "Are you feeling unwell? Didn’t you just co a few days ago?"
Shannon Quinn forced a smile, pursed her lips slightly, and said, "Dr. Chester, I’m here to have surgery."
Silas Kerr’s smile froze, pointed to the seat opposite his desk, and asked Shannon Quinn to sit down, worriedly asking, "...What kind of surgery?"
"Induced labor."
"Did sothing happen?"
Shannon Quinn shook her head with a smile: "Just suddenly don’t want the child."
After saying that, her nose stung, with a hint of redness.
Silas Kerr also knew about those recent news events and guessed that Shannon Quinn’s decision was related to them. But he also knew the importance of the child in Shannon Quinn’s belly, so he dared not perform this surgery easily, saying, "I respect your decision but I must discuss it with Mr. Rhodes, and it’s best if he accompanies you."
Shannon Quinn hesitated, paused, and said, "If Dr. Chester finds it difficult, I can go to another hospital."
Silas Kerr pursed his lips and gently replied, "Other hospitals may not dare take your case either. I won’t hide from you, Mr. Rhodes was here yesterday and gave instructions. I suspect all hospitals big and small have received the notice too. Without Mr. Rhodes’ approval, no one wants to invite this trouble."
Shannon Quinn smiled bitterly; she forgot that the Rhodes Family had such power, so much so that she couldn’t control her own life.
"Thank you, Dr. Chester."
For the next week, she went nowhere, locked herself at ho, with no mood for outings or work.
Erin Bishop returned ho for New Year’s preparations and initially invited her along, but Shannon Quinn declined.
Landon Sutton sent New Year’s gifts—many things, clothes, accessories, so baby items—showing his generosity.
But after Shannon Quinn opened them, she just set them aside.
The day before New Year’s Eve, she went out to shop, finding a man outside the gate, shrunken from cold, furtively looking inside.
When Shannon Quinn glanced at him and prepared to bypass him, the man’s eyes suddenly lit up and rushed toward her, comparing her with a photo in his hand, saying, "You’re Shannon Quinn, right?"
Shannon Quinn didn’t dare nod, fearing he might be from the internet trolls who ca to "punish" her.
Yet the man appeared excited, reaching into his clothing while saying, "Finally caught you, I’ve been squatting here for days, freezing to death."
Originally worried he might pull out a knife or sothing, Shannon Quinn took a wary step back, only to find the man pulled out a slip of paper from his clothes instead, handed it to her, saying, "Our boss asked to find you. Since it’s near New Year’s, he wants to et you, hoping you’ll go see him."
Shannon Quinn curiously reached out to accept the slip, "Who is your boss?"
